Hello, I'm Dr. Manuel Manotas, a licensed psychologist offering online therapy services across California. Fluent in English and Spanish, I'm dedicated to providing accessible and personalized mental health support from the coast to the Sierras. I specialize in helping clients who are navigating the often turbulent waters of anxiety and healing from past trauma. We all know that these issues can feel overwhelming, like an endless loop of thoughts such as "I'm not good enough," "Happiness only comes with wealth," or "My imperfections make me unlikable." But remember, you're not alone on this journey. Together, we'll face these thought patterns, unravel their origins, and discover hands-on techniques to manage anxiety. Our journey isn't about amplifying self-doubt, but uncovering the strength that exists in embracing our vulnerabilities. A unique feature of my approach is Somatic Psychotherapy, which recognizes that our minds and bodies are intrinsically linked. I'll guide you to connect with your physical responses to emotional states, teaching you effective practices like deep breathing and visualization to channel your body's energy in a healthier way. I hold a PsyD from the California Institute of Integral Studies and am certified by the Somatic Experiencing Trauma Institute. This combination of experience and education equips me to support you effectively as you strive to overcome anxiety and heal from trauma. Together, we'll embark on a journey towards a more peaceful and resilient self.

Hello/Saludos! I welcome you to the start of your therapy journey and your desire to heal and learn about yourself. At times, navigating our lives and relationships can be hard, and we might feel sad, angry, or overwhelmed. Therapy can be one way to get the support you need to feel better, grow, and thrive in your life and relationships. I will happily help you achieve that. I really love working with college students and was very fortunate to do so during both my internship at the counseling center at Ohio University, and my postdoc at the counseling center UC Merced. Your psychotherapy journey with me will be collaborative, where you lead the way, and I will serve as your co-pilot. I work from an integrative, multiculturally centered, and tailored approach to meet your needs. I will support you from a compassionate, non-judgmental, and caring stance. Our work together will highlight areas in your life needing attention and care, and identify behaviors no longer serving you, so you feel relief from anxiety, conflict, emotional fluctuations, frustration, low mood, sadness, and stress. You will notice improvements in your self-esteem and relationships. I look forward to working with you and providing support to help you thrive and feel better. I love being a therapist and witnessing the transformation that can happen in therapy. I am a bilingual therapist and offer therapy in both English and Spanish. I want you to live your best life, as they say/como dicen. Sería un placer trabajar con usted y apoyarle para que prospere en su vida.

My therapeutic style is warm and genuine and I like to use humor when appropriate. I am a big proponent of using therapeutic techniques that have good research evidence demonstrating their effectiveness. I specialize in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) for adolescents and adults. CBT teaches clients coping skills to manage their emotions and behaviors. It also changes clients' emotions by helping them change their thoughts and behaviors. I provide CBT to address the following presenting problems: depression, anxiety, OCD, PTSD, and difficulties adjusting to major life changes. DBT is an adaption of CBT that was developed to help clients with multiple problems in multiple areas who struggle with chronically dysregulated emotions. These clients may also have suicidal behaviors, self-harm behaviors, impulsive behaviors, difficulties in their interpersonal relationships, and/or Borderline Personality Disorder. I also have specialty training in the DBT Prolonged Exposure protocol for individuals with comorbid Borderline Personality Disorder and PTSD. In terms of my education and experience, I received my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Stony Brook University in 2014. I then participated in my first postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Washington with Dr. Marsha Linehan, the developer of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). Afterwards, I completed a postdoctoral fellowship with Dr. Jacqueline Pistorello at the University of Nevada, Reno, focusing on providing clinical services to college students and conducting research on evidence-based treatments for suicidal behaviors. As a faculty member at the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine, I taught medical students, psychiatry residents, and child psychiatry fellows about psychology, therapeutic techniques, and how to interact with patients. I opened my private practice in 2017 in Reno, Nevada and recently moved to Virginia.

I work with adults and teens, and I’m particularly passionate about supporting those who feel stuck, sensitive, or like they don’t quite fit the mold. You're not too much—and you're not alone. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Arizona, North Carolina, and South Carolina (LMFT 10386 Arizona, LMFT 20460 North Carolina, LMFT 8265 South Carolina, LMFT 155822 California). I specialize in working with individuals, young adults, and couples/families. My approach to therapy is collaborative and focused on helping all clients feel safe and comfortable in sessions so that change is more likely to occur. I am passionate about helping others heal so that they can feel fulfilled and aligned in life. I love helping clients feel unstuck and helping them get back in touch with their authentic selves so that they can know their worth. I believe that we are all capable of healing and that we have the ability to heal ourselves with the right resources and supports. I used intuitive approaches when working with clients and our work is tailored to fit your needs. I have advanced training in Attachment Theory and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) which allows me to understand how clients’ attachment histories have led to insecurities, feeling stuck, low self-esteem, trauma responses, interpersonal conflict, disconnection in relationships and negative narratives. This model allows individuals and families to heal past hurts and get unstuck from repetitive negative patterns. I have advanced training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR), which is an empirically validated model for trauma therapy, and Brainspotting (BSP) Therapy. These models focus on resolving ongoing trauma symptoms by helping the brain and body process information that is uncomfortable or disturbing so that the information is less painful.
