Therapists for college students near 92093
Having trained at the University of Notre Dame (Ph.D., M.A.), UC Berkeley (APA-accredited internship) and Stanford (post-doctoral fellowship), I bring rigorous scientific expertise into my clinical work with college students. In fact, I worked at the University Counseling Centers at all three of these schools and have continued to develop a specialized private practice that focuses almost exclusively on college students. I also teach for Pepperdine University in their Graduate School of Education & Psychology. I help clients with a range of concerns including: anxiety, depression, career and academic concerns, ADHD, relationship concerns (situationships, am I right? :) ), body image and eating disorders, perfectionism, college/life transitions, as well as family of origin challenges (let's say it together, boundaries...). I often work with high-achieving students who often are managing academically but struggling internally. My clients often put others first and themselves last. By the time they come to therapy, concerns have been going on for some time and they've reached a breaking point. They may feel they "should" be able to handle things on their own. As a recovering perfectionist and someone who was riddled with anxiety throughout college, I get it. It wasn't until my own training in CBT that I learned how destructive such thought patterns were. It inspired my clinical approach, as well as three clinical workbooks I've published on Solution-Focused Therapy, CBT, and Positive Psychology with the top mental health publishers. Many of my clients who have been to therapy before often remark how "easy" I make the process. We laugh, we learn, and talk like old friends. Therapy doesn't have to be stuffy or stressful. It's about feeling respected, validated and heard. Learning to take care of yourself, set appropriate boundaries, and thrive! I'd LOVE to work with you! Please feel free to book a complimentary 15 minute consultation at my website below so we can connect!
Hi, I’m glad you found me! Life can be so stressful and maybe you’ve been experiencing anxiety, depression, relationship issues, symptoms of past trauma, grief and loss, chronic pain, or another current challenge. I want to help create a safe space where we can work through it together. I use my training and experience for a trauma-informed and compassionate approach. I often work with individuals who identify as caretakers, highly sensitive, people pleasers, and perfectionists. Give yourself the much needed self-care and send me an email so we can talk more about what’s been coming up for you. Getting started can be hard, but I’m here to be with you every step of the way.
I appreciate your courage and effort in reaching out! If you are looking to alleviate anxiety, depression, post traumatic stress or to learn healthy coping and relational skills, I would be honored to serve you! I provide a safe and nonjudgemental atmosphere for us to work together to assess and come up with a therapeutic plan that uniquely fits with your present needs. I believe in neuroplasticity and in our innate ability to heal and thrive!
Hello, and welcome! I offer Telehealth video sessions for all CA clients, as well as in-person, or telehealth/in-person hybrid for San Francisco Bay Area clients. Face your challenges with skilled support. I move at a pace that's attuned to each client, balancing qualities of relief with growing edges. Together we can work to help you be in better relationship and balance with yourself and others, build resources, connect to your rich inner life and greater clarity, create an intentional path. Reach out! I offer a FREE 20-minute phone consultation. My office is in the Inner Richmond, SF. I'm a certified Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP). A trauma-informed modality that builds awareness around & resilience in the body & nervous system. We'll inquire into, respond to your thoughts, feelings, sensations. What your unique life or trauma have split off, disavowed in you, or disconnected you from, this work can help reintegrate, reconnect, heal. I offer primarily SE Sessions, if you are seeking that focus and modality only, as well as Psychotherapy Sessions. I’m also trained in SE Touch, which is an optional add-on. I came to this therapeutic work through my own mid-life awakening, discovered through uncovering my essential self in my own psychotherapy, so I bring a strong passion to this work, and a fearlessness to be with you in the hard stuff. I welcome diversity of all kinds, couples/triads, LGBTQQIA. It would be a privilege to walk this path with you.

I love working with college students. The transition to college can be a lot to manage. There are so many new experiences, pressures, and decisions, which can become overwhelming. I was in college the first time I met with a therapist. As exciting as life was, it was also one of the most difficult times. Reaching out for help had an enormously positive impact on my life; significant enough that it led me to pursue a career as a therapist. I consider my style to be patient, flexible, and caring. I am ready to meet you where you are at, no matter how big or small your challenges or goals may be. I am here to support you.
I view therapy as a collaboration where therapist and client work together to connect with an inner healing intelligence and unconditional positive regard within each of us. We can then tend to trauma, grief, resentments, and limiting beliefs that are contributing to symptoms. With humility and reverence for the resilience, courage and vulnerability it can take to heal ourselves, I create a nonjudgemental, kind and compassionate space with room for humor, absurdity and fun. I integrate healing modalities from various wisdom traditions that awaken our physiological and emotional connective systems in collaboration with the natural world. This process can help clear historic trauma and family of origin wounding that is reinforced by a mass cultural amnesia. I draw from evidence-based client-centered modalities including Transpersonal Psychology, Ecopsychology, Internal Family Systems, Gestalt, Family Systems and Somatic approaches to healing.
I have been a licensed Therapist for over 25 years. I have worked primarily with teens and young adults, but also with adults up through the age of 65. Much of my current practice is with young men, supporting them to overcome anxiety, depression, interpersonal and relationship challenges, life transitions, substance and alcohol use, and other related challenges. At this point I am only providing on-line therapy/telehealth. I offer free 15 minute consultations.
If you’re a student feeling overwhelmed by balancing academics, relationships, family expectations, and figuring out who you are, you’re not alone. I work with students who tend to keep it all together on the outside but feel anxious, stuck, or burnt out inside. You might be a deep feeler or an overthinker, someone who struggles with saying “no” or feels the weight of trying to please everyone. Maybe you’re navigating cultural or family expectations that clash with what you want for yourself. In our work together, we’ll slow down and create space for you to explore what you’re feeling in your mind and body. I’ll help you build tools to manage stress, set healthy boundaries, and feel more at ease in your own skin—without judgment or pressure. My approach is gentle, supportive, and focused on helping you connect with your values so you can make choices that feel right for you.
We are therapists in Dublin, CA who love to help people move beyond their anxiety, trauma, and relationship issues and truly start to cultivate joy and freedom in their lives. We’re not nod and “mmhmm” blank slate therapists. We love to dig in with both practical tools and deep insights to help you get unstuck from repetitive patterns and find joy and freedom in your daily life. Therapy can be tough work, but we promise we’ll laugh together along the way.

I am a psychologist based in the San Francisco Bay Area, and I have spent the past 10 years working with folks who are excited and curious about how they can learn to best care for themselves. In general, I tend work with clients who are looking for support around their career goals, including transitioning out of or into a career, finding a better work-school-life balance, establishing or refreshing professional skills/communication, or navigating the experience of college/career integration. I have a particular passion for working with clients in "helping" industries or in training, including healthcare, healthcare administration, mental health, and teaching. I also work regularly with clients who are struggling with depression, anxiety, and other mood regulation concerns. I have experience working with students, especially as they are exploring the next phase of their life. Transitions are sometimes moments of great growth and self-discovery, and often accompanied by great pain and confusion. I think addressing both side of the coin honestly and with support can help us navigate the tough stuff with a sense of clarity and hope. I currently work in a private practice clinic, and provide talk-therapy from a variety of clinical orientations. I usually go for a somewhat down-to-Earth approach when first working with someone: taking the time to learn more about what is and isn't working in their lives, thinking collaboratively with them about what some attainable long-term goals might look like, and then allowing us to settle into the process of engaging and tracking areas of growth as our work develops. Therapy is such a unique and personal process. This should work with and for you, even if it's not always easy. I'm open to meeting you and learning more...even if we aren't a great fit. I'm also happy to support your process in finding that next-right-one. I do my best to respond to voicemails and emails within 24 hours during the work week, and follow-up on all weekend inquiries by end of business on Mondays.
Here at Rachel Wakeford Therapy, I realize that no two people are the same, and tailor my therapy to meet your specific needs as an individual. When you are in my office you are seen and treated as a whole person with both strengths and struggles. I believe that therapy works best when it happens in the safety of a trusting, supportive, and collaborative relationship. My style can be best described as flexible as my interventions are based on the unique needs of my clients. I have experience working with trauma, childhood abuse, anxiety, depression, relationships, anger, stress management, transition issues, social awkwardness, grief, and loss.
