Therapists for college students near San Diego, CA
Are you a person of color, LGBTQ, or woman-identified student in medicine or science? Have you been wearing that superhero cape for far too long? Ready to feel more peace in your life? You’ve come to the right place. I’m Dr. Lindsey Brooks and I work with underrepresented achievers. I’ll help you feel more grounded, balanced, and resilient. In my former position at UCSF Student Health, I worked with hundreds of students on these issues and I'd be thrilled to offer you support. I accept the Lyra Health Plan which now provides in-network benefits for all University of California students. You might be thinking to yourself: ”I need to keep it all together”, “If I just work harder and push myself more, then everything will be okay”, “I have to stay strong for my family” or “No one understands all this crap I deal with every day”. Everyone around you sees you as a success, yet something still feels like it’s missing. We will work together to help you feel more at ease, empowered, and maybe even allow yourself to be imperfect once in a while. When you begin to accept all the parts of yourself with compassion, things begin to change. You find your voice. I look forward to discovering your voice together. If you are seeking a therapist who is: social justice minded, an anti-racist ally, sex positive, feminist, bisexual+ affirming, and who has experience working with students in science and medicine, let’s talk. We believe therapy is a transformative process incorporating different layers of ourselves and our environment. We center Liberation Psychology in helping people empower themselves and dismantle the effects of colonization within and as a collective. We see the person as a whole with mind, body, soul, and spirit. We use a trauma-informed approach that shifts the focus from what's wrong with you? to what happened to you?. Being culturally humble means that you are the expert of your own life, we are equals in the therapy room, and we continuously assess and address our own biases. At Colibri Healing Therapy we are 2SLGBTQIA+ Affirmative. The universe will recycle the same experience in different forms until one is able to transcend and elevate to a higher level of self-awareness and alignment.

No one has a perfect childhood. Early stressors, abuse, and neglect can continue to have profound effects on all of us and can manifest as depression, anxiety, anger, and low-self esteem. As we continue through life, enduring pain and distress, we often learn to suppress our emotions and neglect our needs in order to get by. In therapy I will provide you a safe, supportive space that belongs to you, in which you may share as much as you are willing and at a pace that you are comfortable with. While working together, I aim to help you undo old ways of being and to help you begin fostering a more compassionate relationship with yourself. As a therapist, I believe that I am a facilitator in your journey of change. My passion is helping clients rediscover their true selves and leading more authentic, genuine lives.

Many people say that the college years are supposed to be some of the best in your life, yet it doesn't feel this way to you. Somehow you are missing out. Perhaps anxiety has you second guessing everything or your perfectionism or "OCD" has gotten out of hand. Perhaps you doubt yourself, put yourself down, or get the sense that everyone else has it all figured out except for you. Life doesn't have to be this way. I get it. I used to be a college professor and worked a lot with students transitioning to college and "adult life." I also know how hard things are when you are juggling college demands with the rest of "life," which may include a medical, family/friend, or work issue or just figuring out what you want to do with your life. Reaching out to ask for help is sign that you are aware something's not quite right in your life and you hope things can be better. Our time together is focused on helping you achieve your specific goals using treatments that are evidence-based. This means I only use the treatments that we know from research are helpful. I won't waste your time or money with treatments we know don't work. With any patient I work with, my goal is to eventually put myself out of a job. Sounds like a crazy business model, right? That is because my focus is on YOU and what you need. I want you to learn the skills that you need so you can graduate from therapy and live your best life.

I believe therapy provides an opportunity to heal and offers the reminder that you are worthy of giving and receiving love. Due to elements like social demands, systems of power, and generational trauma, it may feel as if you’ve lost your sense of being grounded and in alignment with your authentic self. We are all healers in our own way and sometimes we need to take the risk of beginning therapy to find a place where we feel most rooted. I approach my work with clients through the lens of humanistic, gestalt, and existential theories which means I firmly believe that you know yourself best—so I take a collaborative approach when working with you. I will use my compassion, intuition, and curiosity to help you get to a deeper level of exploring, discovering, and understanding. I am passionate about supporting those who desire to elevate their self-esteem and self-worth as well as people who are navigating depression and processing past trauma. I hope to join you on your journey as you move toward a more harmonious existence with yourself, others, and the world around you.

I work with children, teens, and adults, using a specialized blend of behavior principles into my therapeutic practice. I started my career in special education as a behaviorist for children with autism and later worked as a school counselor for middle school students in East Los Angeles. I earned my BCBA in 2020 and my LCSW in 2021, allowing me to integrate behavior management techniques into my mental health practice. I love being able to work with clients from both a behavioral and mental health perspective, allowing space for big behaviors and big feelings to coexist and be processed together. I'm here to help! I am directive yet empathetic and allow clients to tailor their therapeutic plan to meet their needs and goals. Please don't hesitate to reach out for a consultation to see if we might be a good fit. Email for clinical supervision rates (individual, triadic, group).

Hello, I’m Alison. I help young adults who are overwhelmed, hopeless or anxious feel more in control and able to manage life's stressors and challenges. Some of the issues young adults have come to see me for include: relationship concerns, feelings of being overwhelmed, struggling to adapt to college or missing home, body image issues, life transitions, questions about gender/sexuality, and personal and family trauma. Trauma can include many things, such as relationship abuse, childhood abuse, illness, death, discrimination, and adoption issues. Using talk and somatic (body-oriented) therapy, as well as the expressive arts, I help clients connect to themselves and access resources to help them feel more at peace and in control of their lives. You will find me to be authentic, caring, and a dedicated support on your journey to healing. I bring compassion, mindfulness, and creativity to my work and consider it an honor to work with my clients. As a lifelong traveler who has lived in many places, I enjoy and value working with people from all walks of life. I look forward to meeting you.
Having someone to talk to can be a source of tremendous relief and gratification. Unhappiness and anxiety that feel unbearable can lessen or disappear when you have someone who can help you understand the reasons for your suffering. A good therapist can also help you more easily get your mind off upsetting thoughts that preoccupy you. Or if you find yourself acting in self-defeating ways, studying it with a therapist can be of enormous help. Ideally, you will leave an initial consultation with a new way of thinking about the problem that brought you in. I am a psychologist in practice for over 30 years and have offices in both San Francisco and Marin County. I am also trained as a psychoanalyst. About half my practice is with adults and couples and the other half is with adolescents and children. If you would like to learn more about my practice, please visit my website at www.drdianedonnelly.com If you would like to schedule an initial appointment, please leave your name and phone number with my voicemail or send me an email and I will return your call or email as soon as I can. Thank you.
Hello, my name is Lauren and I am a therapist working in private practice in Saratoga. My style is warm, supportive, and collaborative. I have a relational focus and I value how attachment influences each individual and the process of therapy. My clients seek to change what is difficult and what isn’t working in their life. Many struggle with the impacts of trauma interfering with their day to day life. Others may struggle with feeling stuck or emotionally overwhelmed. They may be experiencing a challenging dynamic in their relationships or a lack of connectedness to others. My clients are looking to transform their life, achieve personal growth, and to heal. It takes courage to recognize each of our own unique needs and struggles, and I admire the strength it takes to reach out for support and help. I believe that all individuals have the ability to change, and that personal growth is possible for everyone. If you are ready to take the first step toward your path of healing, please contact me. I am currently offering in person services on Wednesdays.
