As a college student you often face adversities such as a lack of stability, increased social and pressures, and a strong push towards academic hyper-achievement. Together with familial and social (media) pressure college students often experience changes in sleep, eating and energy patterns, irritability, a loss of interest in activities previously enjoyed, and substance abuse. Knowing when you need support, and taking the initiative to actually get that help is an important first step in figuring things out. We feel it coming … just as we open our hearts, things shift. They start pulling away and we’re waiting for the breakup to come. We spend days and weeks ruminating about why it ended, what we did wrong. Why does this keep happening? My therapeutic approach is practical and flexible, grounded in psychodynamic psychotherapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and exposure therapy. I find that people often assume that they “should” know how to approach therapy. In reality, the process may not be quite so simple and may feel confusing.
