Therapists for college students near Atlanta, GA
I'm an OCD, phobia, and picking/pulling specialist. 90% of my caseload has OCD and about half also have a phobia or a body-focused repetitive behavior (BFRB). I have a lot of experience with taboo themes (P-OCD, Z-OCD, I-OCD) and people that have primarily mental compulsions. I'm open about having OCD and a BFRB myself. I know what it's like! I'm an LGBTQIA+, kink, and poly-affirming therapist that believes therapy should be available to everyone. I want people to know that therapists are not pinnacles of perfection; we have our own struggles and good therapists use those struggles to become better practitioners. If you're looking for a nonjudgemental therapist that shows her humanity and embraces it with some humor then I might be a good fit for you. I completed specialized training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and I'm intensively trained in Exposure and Response Prevention for OCD. I'm also trained in the ComB model for body-focused repetitive behaviors. I work exclusively online so I can see you no matter where in Georgia you happen to be.
Hello! Let's be honest...seeking therapy can be an uncertain and anxiety-filled process whether you have never worked with a counselor before or have had multiple bad experiences leaving you feeling guarded and hopeless. Each client has different needs and you deserve counseling that is tailored specifically to you. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Georgia. I currently hold an Educational Specialist’s Degree (Ed.S.) in Counselor Education and a Master’s Degree (M.S.) in Clinical Psychology. I have extensive experience working in the counseling field for over 10 years where I have worked with children, adolescents, and adults receiving services for behavioral mental health and substance abuse in a variety of settings including outpatient, inpatient, and semi independent residential treatment facilities. Specifically, I have worked with clients diagnosed with depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress, attention-deficit hyperactivity, and psychotic disorders as well as those struggling with behavioral and emotional distress, low self-esteem, suicidal thoughts, self-harm, sleep difficulties, and more. I particularly enjoy working with students and faculty to help them thrive during transitions. Because therapy is not a one-size-fits-all solution, I use an integrative approach and pull from various theoretical orientations (person-centered, solution-focused, cognitive behavioral, interpersonal process) to ensure your treatment is individualized and collaborative. Regardless of the intervention or techniques used, I practice from the fundamental belief that most often people are good and are trying to do their best given their current situation, but may make bad decisions. We are all human and imperfect… and worthy of love and compassion. This includes you. I am part of the Path referral network, which means that when you reach out, my team will get back to you quickly to schedule our first session. Through Path, I am in-network for most commercial insurances, and the average cost of a session for clients who use their insurance is less than $30.
I know what it feels like to hate your body, spend every waking moment thinking about food, constantly comparing yourself to others, and dealing with the sadness associated with not 'fitting in'. Throughout my experiences working with adults and children, I've witnessed entire transformations that come only as a result of addressing both physical needs and our individual psychological hurdles. I'll work with you to find solutions and tackle stressors, including those caused by low self-esteem, depression, anxiety, chronic dieting, or relationships. As a Body Love Coach and Licensed Professional Counselor, I work to equip women and girls with the knowledge, tools, and support they need in order to ROCK regardless of their weight or body image. **I'm in-network for Amerigroup, Blue Cross Blue Shield/Anthem, CareSource, Humana, and Peach State. I also provide therapy virtually and in the community.
Welcome! My name is Dr. Mahkada Taylor and I commend you for taking the first step in creating a life that you love. I am a Licensed Psychologist providing online counseling to adults in Georgia. One of my happy places is the beach. I am from the beautiful island of Jamaica and some of my most treasured memories and happiest times were spent at the beach. Living in Atlanta, I am not able to go to the beach as often as I would like, therefore, I bring the beach into my daily life through relaxation skills, music, décor, and my general mindset. As your therapist, my hope is that I can help you find your “happy place.” This may be a place, a person, a pet, an activity... anything that nourishes your mind, body and soul. I welcome the opportunity to help you learn how to develop solutions, feel empowered, and create a healthy lifestyle filled with joy, stability, self-acceptance, emotional well-being, and ultimately, happiness.
I came to this field out of a lifetime of curiosity about others and myself. My hope is to help channel your own curiosity and facilitate a journey of self-discovery, understanding, and renewed hope. The grief that comes from loss or change isn’t something to “get over” or “heal” from. Instead, I see grief as an experience that evolves and matures as we learn to adapt to our new reality and integrate these difficult changes into life after loss. None of us are exempt from experiencing grief, mourning, or large life changes. I’ve been there. That’s why I hope you will feel safe bringing me along on your journey. When I am not counseling, I am probably out there dealing with this messy life just like you, training for my next half marathon, at a yoga class or spending time with my family and friends. They would tell you I’m a great listener, caring, and empathetic. They might also share my penchant for bad puns and that I spend an inordinate amount of time planning my next meal. You might also want to know that I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (License # CSW003949) who received her MSW from the Smith College School for Social Work in 2004 and received a BA in Psychology from the University of Vermont. I have worked in various care settings including Inpatient, Outpatient and Managed Care. I have experience treating individuals and couples with a range of issues including eating disorders, marital issues and grief. I offer free 15 minute consultations. When I was a sophomore in college I was diagnosed with a chronic illness. It was a devastating time for me, juggling numerous doctor’s appointments, going to school, having a part-time job, and witnessing the beginning of the end of my parents’ marriage. I eventually got to a point a few years later, after getting married and moving away from home, that I just couldn’t continue pretending like everything was okay. Getting out of bed was a struggle, and so was being motivated to do anything. That was the first time I seeked out therapy, and it had a profound impact on my life. I was able to find new purpose and confidence, which started my own journey of being a counselor, because I wanted to help other people through their tough times. Now I am fortunate to be able to support other women as they work through the difficult periods of their lives, redefining themselves, setting goals, and finding renewed purpose. Let me assist you in doing just that!
I specialize in performance anxiety and high achievement challenges among musicians, graduate students, and creative professionals. Clients may look like they’re doing “fine” on the outside but feel anxious, overwhelmed, burned out, or stuck internally. Many of my clients struggle with perfectionism, self-doubt, or fear of not measuring up even after success. My approach is warm, collaborative, and grounded in evidence-based practices such as ACT, mindfulness, and cognitive behavioral strategies. I aim to create a space where you can think clearly, feel understood, and build tools that actually work in real life — whether that’s managing anxiety, rebuilding confidence, or navigating a major life transition. Therapy with me is practical, thoughtful, and growth-oriented. You don’t have to be in crisis to benefit. Sometimes you just need space to reset, reflect, and move forward with clarity. Before I was a therapist I was a music professor, and I watched talented, driven students strive for excellence while quietly struggling with anxiety and self-doubt. Many were trying to meet not only external expectations, but the very high standards they set for themselves. Over time, I began to see a real need for therapists who truly understand the intense pressure of performance-driven environments. That realization led me to pursue clinical training. I understand what it feels like to care deeply about your work, your performance, and your future. I spent years in higher education and the performing arts, so I know firsthand the pressure that can come with auditions, exams, presentations, and high expectations. My path into therapy grew out of a desire to support people navigating those same pressures with greater clarity, steadiness, and confidence.
