Hablo espanol et je parle francais. It's natural to feel concern about starting therapy and finding the right therapist. It takes courage to look inside and even more courage to reach out for someone to help you make change. One can only find out whether one can have an authentic, caring connection with any given therapist through trying it out and openly discussing the relationship. I will explicitly make space and seek regular feedback from you about our work together to see how the fit and progress feels for you. I completed all of my clinical training at Harvard Medical School through their programs at VA Boston and Cambridge Health Alliance. I can help you notice what you want to change and identify goals for therapy. I have been described as an empathic, nonjudgmental therapist who brings warmth and respect to the therapy room. I use mindfulness to help you notice your sensations, feelings and thoughts, and accept them while setting intentions to make changes to reach goals you value. I see clients mornings, evenings and weekends and specialize in stress for teens, students and professionals including women's issues. I speak French and Spanish fluently. More personally, I enjoy meditating and spending time in nature — rock-climbing, hiking and cycling. I grew up in Europe in a diverse family and bring a multicultural sensitivity to therapy.
As humans, we inherently seek meaningful connection and understanding. When our emotions, experiences, and struggles go unseen or unheard, we may feel distressed, isolated, and even question our sense of self. In my practice, I take an integrative, client-centered, trauma-informed, and evidence-based approach to therapy—one that honors the complexities of your lived experiences while affirming your individuality. Rooted in the principles of social justice, embodied social justice, anti-oppression, and queer affirmation, my work ensures that therapy is not just a space for healing but also one for empowerment. I believe that understanding ‘what’ has shaped your experiences offers insight into ‘why’ you might think, feel, and behave the way you do. This awareness allows us to collaboratively explore ‘how’ we can help you achieve your goals and foster meaningful growth – holistically. Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, "To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment." I am committed to providing a space where you feel truly seen, understood, and comfortable—one where you can explore, embrace, and reconnect with your most authentic self.
“I don’t want to feel like this any longer.” Or “I just want to feel better about myself and my life.” Many of my clients will say something like this. They feel stuck. Anxieties, sadness, pain and the fears of not being good enough only grow. They can point to many good things in their lives but somehow feeling fulfilled and happier isn’t happening. Feeling ashamed to admit even to themselves or others about how hard things are while self-doubt is settling in. Perfectionism, self-criticism and imposter syndrome can tear you down inside even if no one else knows it. Work, school and relationships require energy that is harder to find. The need to present well can be exhausting and at times even destructive. You may try to remind yourself to feel grateful or more positive but sometimes even that reinforces a feeling of shame that your life feels so difficult. The idea of showing up for yourself starts to feel impossible; connecting with friends, family or a partner feels difficult or simply out of reach. Sadness can show up as anger or withdrawing from activities you once enjoyed and withdrawing from people who care about you. As the need to numb yourself grows, alcohol or other addictive patterns may increase. Anxiety, sadness, shame, medical or physical trauma, perinatal challenges, perfectionism and self-criticism, bullying or pain from childhood and family issues, relationship patterns you want to change, sports performance injuries or difficulties, negative thoughts and feelings about yourself and low self-esteem can all have origins in trauma. Trauma may not be the word that is used. Sometimes we think traumatic experiences must be extremely dramatic but actually trauma is experienced by all of us at different times in our lives. Trauma is really anything in our past that is difficult to think about or feel, draining us emotionally. Having a stronger sense of yourself will allow you to respond to challenges with more freedom, as well as direct your life with goals and purpose. If you want to let go of stuff from your past but aren’t sure of how to move forward, I can help.
Therapy is a healing tool that can bring us closer to understanding our cognitive and behavioral reactions to the world around us. Addressing issues in a safe, therapeutic relationship can help us to understand, change and adapt to new thoughts and behavior patterns, confront past issues with compassion and kindness toward ourselves and others. I strive to provide a warm, supportive, nonjudgmental atmosphere where clients are free to explore their difficulties as well as reconnect with and harness their strengths. I aim to create a space where growth, healing, and transformation can occur. I do this by using a client-centered approach, listening kindly, and offering constructive feedback to help clients challenge self-defeating beliefs and behaviors. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is my main theoretical orientation. My goal is to help each individual to access their unique strengths and remove any blockages that are preventing them from attaining their highest state of well-being and becoming their whole selves. I have helped clients learn skills to better manage stress, as well as to recover from depression, anxiety and substance use using a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy approach. Although Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is my main orientation, I understand that each person's needs are unique and I apply other modalities including insight orientated therapy and mindfulness. I provide both short and longer-term therapy depending on your individual needs. I have specialized experience working with LGBTQIA+ individuals, transgender and gender-diverse individuals.
You were sexually assaulted or experienced a disturbing sexual encounter. Now you feel jittery & anxious. Sometimes you have panic attacks. You can’t stop thinking about what happened and try really hard to avoid any reminders of it. You may feel really confused about how to label the experience and wonder if it was partly your fault. You have nightmares, trouble with intimacy, and are concerned you’re now permanently damaged or broken. It is possible to heal. You can feel relaxed again, get pleasure from intimacy, and feel good in your body. I am Rachel Stanton (she/her) and I use treatments like EMDR & Progressive Counting to help you process what happened in small, manageable chunks. These techniques are known for being more efficient and effective than regular talk therapy. Please go to my website CounselinginBoston.com to learn more about these techniques and the services I offer.

Do you spend so much time caring for other people’s needs that your own get lost in the process? Does it feel like everything will fall apart if you slow down? Being the go-to person can cost you a lot of anxiety, sleepless nights, and/or panic. With over 20 years of experience as a therapist specializing in anxiety, burnout, and relationships, we’ll work together to create a new way forward, with proven strategies you can implement daily to complete the stress response cycle, practice self compassion, and fully recognize your self-worth as separate from your accomplishments and/or other's opinions. No matter what you are going through, you can emerge as something greater. Unless you are an old soul, choices surrounding identity, self worth and acceptance, relationships/finding connection, and career choice are often painful and confusing. Even in the best of circumstances and family support, we are left with well meaning advice and our own limited self-understanding to guide choices that will affect the next season of life. I have over a decade of experience in residential and college counseling settings helping clients to explore their past to understand the motivations and traumas that led then to where they are and what if anything they want to change going forward. Clinically, I work with clients seeking to treat their depression, anxiety, relationship/career issues, and other areas of distress. I use a client centered, humanist/existential style to explore current distress while integrating behavioral interventions (TF-CBT, DBT) and classic insight oriented exploration. I offer a safe space to look at oneself gently. I believe true spiritual/personal growth is demonstrated in learning how to treat ourselves the way we treat our friends and those we love. If you're looking for a space to grow that part of yourself or to begin treatment for a long ignored pain/injury, please reach out for a free 15 minute consultation. I wish you all the best. Katie Duggan, MS - Individual Therapist As a dedicated mental health clinician with a focus on children and young adults, I am passionate about helping individuals navigate the intricate interplay between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. I view therapy as an invaluable outlet for self-exploration and growth, guiding clients towards healthier ways of coping and living authentically.
