Therapists for college students near Ann Arbor, MI
I help college students who struggle with anxiety, disordered eating, body image, low self-esteem, people pleasing, and impostor syndrome. My clients struggle like you do. Despite being helpers with big hearts who pour into others, life feels hard. They are stuck in anxious thought cycles and exhausted. When they first reach out to me, they are tired of feeling anxious. They often say that they sometimes aren’t even sure if they really need therapy because they are getting by in life. Their professors, classmates, and friends all think that they are okay, but inside they feel overwhelmed, stressed, and self-conscious. They are often up at night replaying interactions with others, running through all their worries, and stressing about their to-do lists. Often, they feel a like a fraud; like they somehow managed to trick their way to where they’re at in life and worry that they aren’t capable of the dreams for their future. They wish they could open up to others easier and introduce themselves to new people. They often worry about what other people are thinking and care a lot about the feelings of those around them. They are really good at taking care of others yet struggle to put themselves first. Their anxiety gets in the way of the life they want in so many ways. They aren’t fully the kind of student they want to be. They feel like they are failing at juggling everything that’s on their plate. They feel drained in their relationships. Their confidence in their ability to take on new jobs and opportunities is tanking. Like my clients, you deserve to feel capable of accomplishing your future goals. You deserve to feel happy, self-assured, and worthy. You deserve to live each day knowing that you’re good enough. If you want to bloom into your most confident self, I’d love to help you get there. E-mail now and let's get started; your problems aren’t too small for therapy. I can help! Sarah@BloomMqt.com

Life is difficult, and it sometimes makes it seem nearly impossible to find the help needed to get through those challenging times. Whether it be anxiety, depression, substance use, addiction, impulse problems, empowerment or self esteem issues, we are here to empower you, meeting your needs
I work with teens and college students to help them deal with anxiety, depression, stress, relationship concerns. I also help people who are stressed out and need some clarity about big decisions such as whether to change majors. I use Solution Focused Therapy which means I'll help you get a clear idea of what you want things to look like in the immediate future and then help you use your current strengths and past successes to make it happen. I'll help you get ideas for small but do-able changes to start with, and these small changes add up to big change.
Are you going through a significant life event or change? Or are you ready to work through past distressing memories or traumatic events? Embarking on the therapeutic journey takes courage, as well as finding the right therapist. I specialize in helping those going through significant life events and discernment, individuals who experience depression, anxiety, grief, PTSD, as well as those who identify as LGBTQIA. I prefer to view therapeutic foci through an Adaptive Information Processing Model, rather than through a pathological lens. So many presenting symptoms are actually trauma-related, and that is where healing can start. What if your brain could heal itself? I offer Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), which can be a powerful treatment for PTSD, anxiety, grief, performance improvement, depression and many other conditions. I am trained in the EMDR DeTUR protocol for urge reduction as well (focusing on addictions or other compulsive behaviors). In an effort to accommodate busy schedules, I offer evening and weekend appointments. Together, we will collaborate on goals and a plan while building upon your strengths. I look forward to hearing from you! If interested in EMDR therapy and curious about it, please see www.emdria.org for further information.

The hope of The Counseling Center of Great Lakes is to be able to offer support and encouragement to people in their communities by helping them find hope and healing through professional counseling. Hillary earned a Master of Arts in Counseling degree from Spring Arbor University (2020) and is licensed in the state of Michigan as a Limited Licensed Professional Counselor (LLPC) and the State of Illinois as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). After starting CCGL with her co-owners in 2020, her family transitioned to Illinois in 2024 and she began working at Monte Nido Chicago Day Treatment as a PHP/IOP Primary Therapist where she worked with clients who were in a higher level of care for eating disorders. Her experience working these different levels of care also provided further experience working with clients struggling with various mental illnesses including a variety of eating disorders, depressive disorders, anxiety disorders, Bipolar Disorder, PTSD, OCD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and various personality disorders. After a year away, Hillary realized that she missed the atmosphere of private practice and CCGL, so she transitioned back and is currently seeing clients through telehealth exclusively. Hillary believes the counseling process is a mutually constructive effort between both the client and the counselor. Her approach to counseling is to gain understanding of the client as a whole person. In order for change to occur, the client must feel like they have the space to be their authentic selves. She offers interventions from various schools of treatment thought, choosing interventions based on their suitability and perceived benefit to the client and his or her stated goals. Hillary believes every client wants to feel seen and heard; and is honored to get to journey alongside her clients to offer hope and healing.

My approach begins with the understanding that connecting with one’s self and others is a pathway toward finding meaning and fulfillment. This pathway of connecting can become blocked by old emotional wounds or current relationship struggles. The partnership formed in the therapy relationship becomes the platform where healing broken connections may occur. This approach can help bring about lasting change by getting at the ‘root’ of the problem and bring relief from symptoms. Central to Chris’ approach is a concern for the role that faith and belief play in the life of the patient. My practice is shaped by his time training at Northwestern University, Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary, and the Center for Religion and Psychotherapy of Chicago. My approach to working to help people change comes primarily from a model for psychotherapy where tending to feelings, symptoms, and patterns of relating become an important part of the healing process. In our first conversation, you can expect to briefly discuss your concerns as well as setting up an initial meeting. The first meeting is where your concerns and history are better understood in order to offer specific recommendations and feedback.
