NuMind welcomes students of all ages and backgrounds. We are invested in assisting with your healthy matriculation through your studies, and recognize that your mental well-being is vital to that process. Our owner, Dr. D'Angelo Lewis (Dr. Dee) was a college professor and advisor, as well as a Program Evaluator for UNC General Administration. He is very familiar with the rigors of higher education and the struggles that come along with the journey to graduating. As an undergraduate he not only attended school full-time, but did so with no home address, no financial support and with a toddler in tow. Imagine the dorm being your only home and feeding a child in the cafeteria! I promise that whatever you are enduring, Dr. Dee can relate and help you move your life forward.

You came to college with a plan. Maybe you're the first in your family to be here, or the one everyone back home is counting on. You're supposed to have it together. But instead you're exhausted, overwhelmed, and quietly wondering if you even belong here. The pressure to perform is relentless. The anxiety before exams, presentations, or even just speaking up in class. The feeling that everyone else got a manual you never received. You push harder, achieve more, and still feel empty or behind. And underneath all of that hustle, there are older, heavier things: childhood wounds, family expectations, generational patterns, anger, and the grief of watching violence hit people who look like you, love like you, pray like you. That's not weakness. That's not a disorder. That's a lot to carry, and you've been carrying it alone for too long. This is a space for college students who are done pretending they're fine. Whether you're dealing with performance anxiety, depression, burnout, a hard time fitting in, or just a deep sense of not being enough, you don't have to keep grinding through it. Using body and mind approaches, we work with how stress and trauma live in your nervous system, not just your thoughts. We also dig into the stories you tell yourself, where they came from, and whether they're actually yours to carry. We work with college students across North Carolina and specialize in multicultural counseling for BIPOC individuals, first and second generation immigrants, and people from SWANA (South West Asian and North African) communities, including Arabs, North Africans, and people from the Gulf region. We understand what it means to navigate life between worlds, and we meet you exactly where you are. You've carried enough alone. Reach out for a free consultation. We'd love to meet you.

Life's challenges can sometimes leave you feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or unsure of your next step. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), I help adults navigate anxiety, depression, burnout, stress, relationship concerns, and major life transitions. Many of my clients are successful, capable individuals who are used to managing everything on their own, yet find themselves feeling emotionally drained or stuck. My goal is to provide a supportive and authentic space where you can explore your experiences openly, gain clarity, and develop practical tools to create meaningful change. Therapy should feel like a partnership—one built on trust, understanding, and genuine human connection. My approach combines evidence-based therapeutic techniques with a warm, down-to-earth style that meets you where you are. Together, we will identify patterns that may be holding you back, strengthen coping skills, and build strategies that support long-term emotional wellness. I believe lasting growth happens when therapy is personalized, collaborative, and focused on the goals that matter most to you. You do not need to have all the answers before starting therapy. Whether you are facing a difficult transition, struggling with stress and anxiety, or simply looking to better understand yourself, I am here to help. Taking the first step can be challenging, but it can also be the beginning of meaningful growth and healing. I invite you to schedule an appointment and start building the life you want with confidence, resilience, and support.
Forming yourself into the adult you are going to be for the rest of your life can be stressful. Managing academics, extracurricular activities, relationships, and social life while planning for your future after college can be super overwhelming at times. I work collaboratively with you to help you learn to cope better with life's stressors, reduce symptoms of mental health, enjoy healthier relationships, and set and achieve your goals. Knowing your values, what's important to you, and following your passions, separate from what others want from you is important and presents challenges. We will help you figure out how best to live the life you most desire.

I offer virtual sessions across North Carolina. Feel free to reach out to see if we are a good fit! I'm excited to connect with you!
You know the feeling when you step outside following a rain storm? You breathe in fresh air and watch the sun finally appear through the clouds. That is the journey of therapy. Rather than eliminating the storm, therapy explores new perspectives in the midst of life’s challenges.
My clients are exhausted and overwhelmed like you. They are tired of doing their best to keep all these balls (school, work, parenting, relationships, self-care, health and wellbeing, sleep + more) up in the air (even though admittedly they are pretty darn good at it). But when they inevitably drop a few because something else pops up or they get tired, life feels messy and they are quick to place judgements on themselves. My clients are expert problem solvers and doers, who in the face of stress, just keep going. Some are the type of person who the people in their life lean on for support. Some have tried a number of ways to fix or problem solve their way our of their emotions or exhaustion. They find their coping to work for a little bit but aren't moving them towards the life they imagined for themselves. Some realize they aren't sure they can keep up with all of what needs to be done to feel "okay". When some of my clients do take time for themselves or the rest they need, their mind struggles with feeling guilty, worrying about what they "should" be doing for work/school/person (fill in the blank with any responsibility). Like my clients, you deserve to find ease and connection in your body without a to-do list flowing through your head or scanning your body for what’s wrong now. Not being defined or consumed by your productivity is not out of your reach. I'd love to help you get there. Contact me today for a free consultation.

With me, you’ll find a supportive space that recognizes life doesn’t always go as planned. Goals can shift—not as a reflection of your effort or worth, but often because of the realities life brings.
