Therapists for college students near Duke University
At Taylor’s Touch of Clarity, we work best with college students who feel overwhelmed, stressed, or uncertain—even if everything looks “fine” on the outside. Many of the students we support are balancing classes, work, family expectations, relationships, and the pressure to figure out their future, all at the same time. You may be experiencing constant stress, anxiety that makes it hard to focus, low confidence, or feeling stuck in your own head. Some students come to us feeling burned out, disconnected, or unsure of who they are becoming. Others are navigating depression, self-esteem challenges, relationship concerns, or major life transitions. If any of this sounds familiar, you’re not alone—and support is available. Our practice is built on creating a safe, non-judgmental space where students can openly talk about what they’re going through without feeling rushed, labeled, or misunderstood. We focus on meeting you where you are and tailoring care to your individual needs, rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach. At Taylor’s Touch of Clarity, counseling is a collaborative process. We believe progress happens best when clients feel heard, respected, and actively involved in their growth. Our clinicians work alongside students to build practical coping skills, increase emotional awareness, and strengthen confidence in both academic and personal areas of life. Using a client-centered and strengths-based approach, we help students identify their values, recognize their strengths, and develop tools to manage stress, anxiety, mood challenges, and relationship concerns. Our goal is not just to help you get through college, but to support you in building skills and self-understanding that will serve you well beyond it.
As a PMHNP, my role focuses on the comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and management of mental health conditions. I prescribe medications, provide brief psychotherapy, and offer holistic care to those students dealing with mental health challenges. I work closely with patients to understand their symptoms, identify treatment options, and ensure their psychiatric needs are met through both pharmacological and therapeutic interventions, to include genetic testing and ADHD computer based testing. I have extensive experience working with college students to help manage the anxiety, stress, depression and all the emotions that may come with being a young adult student.
College is supposed to be exciting — but sometimes it’s just too much. If you’re stuck in your head, overthinking everything, or pretending you’re fine when you’re really not, you’re not alone. I help college students tackle anxiety, perfectionism, and all those “Who even am I?” moments — no B.S. My style is real, honest, and down-to-earth. We’ll call out what’s getting in your way and find tools that actually work, so you can feel clear, confident, and more like you again.
I began my counseling career working with groups, adolescents, and adults experiencing homelessness in a nonprofit setting. In transitioning to private practice I enjoy deeper counseling relationships by getting to walk alongside people more long term. I believe healing takes place with the whole person in mind, attending to psychological, physiological, emotional, social, and spiritual facets of the person. I find it fulfilling to walk alongside my clients as they cultivate wholeness and rediscover the beauty of their stories. Specialities: I am passionate about working in the specialties of EMDR, trauma, and adoption related issues. I have completed certification in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). I have experience counseling clients across a range of issues: anxiety, ADHD, self-esteem/image, mild depression, premarital counseling, marital counseling, and relational issues. Therapeutic Techniques: I utilize techniques from EMDR, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Child-Centered Play Therapy, Strengths Based approach and Gottman techniques, among others. My education focused on an integrated approach, which intersected clinical approaches with Biblical principles. Upon request, I am able to provide counseling from a Biblical perspective.
I am passionate about serving the communities that I work with. I specialize in Anxiety, Depression, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and related disorders, Phobias, Tics and Tourette's Disorder, LGBTQ+ concerns, and phase of life issues. I also have specialized training in helping college students. I strive to deliver multiculturally competent services, my practice is inclusive of the LGBTQ+ community, and my pronouns are she/her. Difficult experiences impact people in different ways. Whether you are feeling stuck, disconnected, or hesitant as you approach a major life transition, know that change is possible. I incorporate evidence-based treatment approaches grounded in multicultural psychotherapy that allow for a collaborative relationship focused on helping you achieve your goals.

As a trained social worker with 11 year’s experience in the field, I’ve worked in a number of settings including the school system, medical facilities, and group practices. I’m a helper at heart and some of my guiding principals as a therapist are: mental health and physical are interconnected and health is not defined by a number on a scale, human beings are innately wired for connection, and success and well being are completely subjective and shouldn’t be defined by anyone but yourself Relationships with others and ourselves are so impactful on our quality of life. By utilizing IFS, EMDR, Polyvagal Theory and Attachment Theory principals, we can gain better understanding on how we interact with the world. Some of my specialties include: ADHD and Neurodivergence Attachment and relationship work Boundaries Anxiety Depression Disordered Eating Stress management Life transitions Trauma
Hi there! My practice is inclusive and welcoming to all. Helping Millennials and Asian-Americans through talk therapy or EMDR, I get people unstuck. Through a trauma-informed lens, I support adults who struggle with anxiety, loss, life transitions, and trauma. Hello, and welcome. My name is Kathleen McGah and I offer a comfortable, confidential space for teens, college-age students and young adults to talk about whatever is on their mind, at one's own pace, and without judgment. When people have a safe place to practice putting thoughts and feelings into words, they find they grow psychologically stronger over time - and more satisfied with various aspects of life. I have worked with many students who, initially, have been hesitant to talk with a professional. (Even if one has had a counseling experience in the past, it can still be difficult to start with a new therapist.) It makes sense if you have some hesitation about taking this step. Only you will know if you are ready. If you have been struggling and think it would be good to meet with a therapist, though, please reach out.
Many of the students I work with are bright, capable, and hardworking—but still feel overwhelmed, distracted, anxious, or like they’re constantly falling behind. I specialize in working with college students struggling with ADHD, anxiety, trauma, and relationship stress. Together we focus on understanding how your brain works, improving emotional regulation, building better habits, and reducing shame or self-criticism. My approach is supportive, collaborative, and practical. I integrate CBT, DBT, ACT, Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), and the Gottman Method for couples. I have over 10 years of experience working with college students and young adults navigating stress, identity, relationships, and life transitions.
