Therapists for college students near 10003
Hello! I am a clinical psychologist who specializes in working with young adults, LGBTQ+ people (especially trans and non-binary), trauma, and emotional instability. My clients often come from backgrounds where they feel misunderstood and invalidated. They sometimes feel frustrated with their important relationships, or like they're stuck on an emotional roller coaster, or like they have trouble relaxing and feeling safe. In therapy, I create an accepting, non-judgmental environment where my clients can feel truly seen. From there, I help clients understand themselves, what they want to change in their lives, and how to reach their goals. I completed my training at college counseling centers and a hospital program serving college students. I know the challenges college students face, and I love helping students overcome those challenges. If you think we might be a good fit for therapy, please reach out! I offer free 15 minute consultation calls for anyone interested. I am currently offering therapy in person in Berkeley, CA on Saturdays and over Zoom Tuesday-Saturday in California, New York, and Virginia.
Hi, I'm Courtney. As a therapist, I strive to create an environment of safety, curiosity, discovery, and courage for everyone seeking therapeutic services and I look forward to collaborating with people in creative ways to reach therapeutic goals. I strongly believe in the power of strength-based and client-centered practice and am devoted to creating opportunities for the people around me to achieve their own goals and exceed their own expectations for success. I show up as myself in the therapy room – integrating humor, storytelling, and metaphors. My holistic approach allows for clients to grow and learn more about themselves in new ways. Therapy with me is a judgment-free zone to help you gain perspective and understanding of your emotions, coping skills, and relational patterns. I recognize that therapy is a healing process, not a quick fix. I focus on the therapeutic relationship as a tool for helping you grow and heal at your own pace, and in a way that feels right for you. I have experience working with children, adolescents, adults, and families. Currently, my clients are primarily young adults. I hope that through working together, you can find self-compassion, curiosity, and healing through enriching your life and relationships. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and have 7 years of experience. I have a Masters’ degree in Counseling Psychology from The University of Denver, as well as a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from The State University of New York, at Oswego. I have lived in many beautiful states during my schooling and training from New York, to North Carolina, Colorado, New Jersey, and finally back to my hometown of Buffalo, New York. I love spending time with my family, friends, and dog. I love to spend time outdoors, ski, listen to music, cook new recipes, and travel. I am accepting new clients at this time, via telehealth services. I am an out-of-networker provider. I can provide you with a statement at the end of each month that you can submit for reimbursement. I look forward to meeting with you.
Finding the right support is one of the most important steps you can take for your mental health, and I'm here to help you take it. As a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner specializing in anxiety and mood disorders, I work with individuals navigating emotional, behavioral, and psychiatric challenges, offering medication management, treatment planning, and holistic, patient-centered care. My goal is to serve as an engaged and invested partner in your care, empowering you through education, support, and evidence-based treatment. I look forward to helping you gain confidence, develop effective coping strategies, and create meaningful, lasting change. Compassionate, collaborative, and evidence-based care is the framework of my practice, as I’m deeply passionate about creating a safe space where you feel heard, understood, and supported in your mental health journey. With me, you can always expect a warm and welcoming environment where your goals and experiences shape the direction of our work together. Through personalized therapeutic techniques and medication management, we'll work to build insight, strengthen resilience, and improve your quality of life. Every approach is tailored to you, because no two journeys are the same. My path to becoming a PMHNP was shaped by years at the bedside as an RN, as well as three years in inpatient psychiatry. These experiences gave me a deep appreciation for the connection between physical and mental health, and reinforced my commitment to compassionate, whole-person care. The clinical perspective I developed in those settings informs every session. Understanding how the body and mind work together allows me to bring a more complete and holistic lens to your care. When I'm not seeing patients, you'll find me out for a run, exploring somewhere new, or recharging with friends and family. Time in nature and meaningful connections keep me grounded, and that same sense of balance and presence is something I strive to bring to my work with you.
Feeling overwhelmed by school, life, or your own mind? You're not alone. I've been helping young adults like you for over 18 years. My goal is to bring warmth and acceptance to all my clients and to provide them with concrete skills that they can use to help solve their problems and live more fulfilling lives. I am licensed in New York and Montana. College can be a really fun and exciting chapter in one's life; it can also feel really crazy and overwhelming! I see therapy as a means of promoting balance and happiness, and improving clients' relationships with themselves and those around them.
As a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW), I work with individuals and families navigating life across a variety of backgrounds, beliefs, and identities. I work particularly well with kids and teens (ages 5–17), college students, and adults, including LGBTQIA+ individuals, supporting them through anxiety, life transitions, relationship challenges, and the kind of stressful situations that can leave you feeling overwhelmed or unsure of where you belong. My personal experience in therapy has been profoundly transformative, and it’s that firsthand understanding of what genuine, effective care feels like that drives my commitment to providing it. If you're carrying the weight of difficult emotions, searching for your sense of purpose, or trying to build more meaningful relationships and you're not sure where to start, that's okay. We'll figure it out together. I believe healing happens when you feel safe enough to be honest, messy, and to move at your own pace, even when that feels like navigating a storm you can't see through. I don't come into sessions with a script; I come with genuine curiosity about you specifically, and a warm but grounded approach built around you, not a formula. Our work together is your umbrella in the storm, the light on the horizon, and, eventually, the clearing. I draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), adapting to what you need session to session. Together we'll build real insight, practical tools, and ways forward that feel sustainable and true to who you are. Before becoming a therapist, I spent four years working in community and supportive housing, where I served individuals navigating untreated and under-treated mental illness while trying to maintain stable lives. What struck me wasn't just how much they were struggling; it was how many barriers stood between them and the real support they needed. I became a therapist because I believe mental health care isn't a luxury, it's infrastructure. And everyone deserves access to it. Outside of the office, you'll find me on a yoga mat, at a Pilates class, or at a restaurant trying something I've never eaten before. I love spending time with my husband, and when we're not home, there's a good chance we're somewhere on the opposite side of the world. International travel isn't just a hobby for me, it's a reminder that there are as many ways to live a meaningful life as there are people living them, and that perspective finds its way into my work every single day.
Hi! My name is Alyssa Ammerman, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in New York. I received my Master of Social Work from the University at Buffalo in 2017 (GO BILLS!). I use an eclectic and person-centered approach to therapy. I have formal training in a variety of therapy modalities that I use at various times throughout the therapeutic relationship, with you as the guiding factor. I believe that each person’s experience is unique, and therapy should be a reflection of that. I enjoy working with individuals ages 18+ that are going through life transitions, dealing with anxiety, chronic illnesses, first responders, parents, and identify as a sex-positive, kink-friendly therapist.
College can intensify pressure to succeed, make the “right” choices, and hold it all together, often alongside anxiety, perfectionism, people pleasing, relationship issues, or concerns about food, body image, or control. I work with college students and young adults who appear high-functioning on the outside but feel overwhelmed, disconnected, or unsure of themselves on the inside. Together, we slow things down, identify patterns that keep you stuck, and build insight and skills that support real, lasting change. My approach is collaborative, thoughtful, and tailored to you as a whole person, not a set of symptoms. I hold the CEDS-C credential, the highest certification in eating disorder treatment, and support students whose anxiety or perfectionism shows up around food, body image, or self-worth. Therapy can be a space to pause, feel understood, and reconnect with what matters most, without having to pretend you’re fine or push through alone.

Hi! I'm Alysia. I specialize in working with both adults and young adults in navigating periods of transition, life changes and relationships. Oftentimes along with change comes complicated feelings of stress, grief and loss that need a space to be unpacked. I understand and recognize that therapy is not one-size-fits-all. I will collaborate with you to create a space where we can work together to better understand you. I look forward to unpacking this baggage with you in a safe, supportive place. No worries - There is room for it all. Reach out and we can take this next step together.

Life often brings us to a crossroads - where old perspectives, ways of feeling and being meet a desire for something new. Self-criticism, pain from past hurt, and fear of the future can create distance from a sense of aliveness, and hold us back from meaningful change. Over time, this may show up as relationship conflict, lack of purpose, feeling confused or numb, anxious, or depressed. Often these patterns are rooted in early relationships or unresolved experiences that shape how we view the world, attach and relate. I see therapy as a process of helping clients reconnect with themselves; rebuilding clarity, self-trust, and agency. Therapy with me is collaborative, authentic, and most importantly - rooted in the safety and trust of relationship. It is important to me to balance authenticity, warmth and humor, with honesty and directness. I offer traditional talk therapy and somatic practices that help you understand, process, and relate to your emotions - and whole self - in new ways.
