Many of the students I work with are used to pushing through, even when they're overwhelmed. They may be questioning their career path, struggling with perfectionism, procrastination, people pleasing, or feeling like they're falling behind while everyone else seems to have life figured out. Others are navigating ADHD, anxiety, grief, relationship challenges, identity exploration, or family stress. As a college professor and psychologist, I understand the unique pressures students face and help them better understand the patterns that keep them stuck, build confidence in their decisions, and develop a stronger sense of who they are both in and outside of the classroom.

College brings a mix of new freedom, academic pressure, shifting relationships, and questions about who you want to become. If you are struggling with anxiety, perfectionism, mood changes, relationship stress, or the challenges of adjusting to college life, you deserve support that helps you feel understood and steady again. I offer a warm and collaborative space where you can talk openly about what you are experiencing while feeling supported to grow in ways that are both meaningful and sustainable. My goal is to understand you fully, help you reconnect with your strengths, and work with you to create a life that feels more manageable and more aligned with who you want to be. My approach is grounded in evidence-based care. I integrate DBT-informed treatment, CBT, relational therapy, and mindfulness-based strategies to help you understand the patterns and experiences that shape you while also building practical skills. Together, we focus on emotional regulation, coping tools, communication, boundary setting, academic stress management, and the internal pressures that often surface during college. Therapy is flexible, collaborative, and tailored to your needs so you can make real and lasting change. I have extensive experience working with adolescents and young adults in settings where emotional well-being and academic demands overlap. Alongside my private practice, I work at a specialized therapeutic high school where I support students managing stress, perfectionism, identity development, and transitions into college and adulthood. In this role, I coordinate DBT programming, provide training and consultation to faculty, and oversee the integration of skills into the broader school culture. I also supervise doctoral trainees, which reflects my commitment to high-quality, evidence-based care and to training the next generation of clinicians.

Hi! I am Dr. Monica Johnson. If you’re reading this, it means you are taking your mental and emotional health seriously and researching someone who will be a good fit for your journey. This is exciting! Let me tell you more about me to help you with your decision making process. I am a Licensed Psychologist in NYC, but some people think of me as a problem solving pro, empowerment guru, and self-compassion guide! I partner with my patients to find pathways to a better life. I work best with people who are tired of being stuck and ready to make changes. I can’t change you. Only you can do that, but I’m super excited to be your side kick on the journey and help you highlight roads to success. One of the most important things to know about me is that I am NOT a smile and nod type of therapist. I get down in the trenches with you. I’m down to earth and real with you through this process which means I will call you out on your BS and help you figure out what to do with it. We will work hard and laugh a lot. For the record, there is nothing off limits or shameful in therapy. I’ve seen it all and heard it all. If you need to talk about sex, money, medical issues, or “that one time in Amsterdam,” don’t hesitate! I work with people of all backgrounds (race, gender, sexuality, religion, alternative relationships) and you should expect that I will affirm your identity while helping you to develop a fuller self concept. My job is to help you tap into strengths you already possess (we all have them even if we can’t see them yet) and create new ones! If you are struggling with depression, anxiety, feel constantly overwhelmed by your emotions, past traumas, poor relationships, low self esteem, or just deciding what the next step is in your career/life, I can help.

I can provide a nonjudgemental space for you to explore difficult or uncomfortable situations. I believe that we are all unique and there is no one size fit all technique thus one of my first steps is to hear your story, so that we can work together to formulate a plan, which truly works for you.

I am an LCSW specializing in the treatment of eating disorders, trauma and co-occurring mental health concerns such as depression, anxiety and trauma. An eating disorder can consume your life. Eating disorders are about complex issues that impact your physical and mental health. They are a way of coping with difficult thoughts and emotions through disturbances in eating behaviors. Full recovery is possible. Using psychodynamic interventions, EMDR and behavioral techniques such as CBT, DBT and Mindfulness, I help clients access and express their thoughts and emotions, find relief from physical symptoms, heal through practicing self-compassion, and become motivated to make meaningful changes in their lives. My work is collaborative and supportive, emphasizing emotional healing and personal growth. Together we will work creatively to explore your life, identify ways to overcome your challenges, and connect with your strengths and resilience.

We have assisted both mxn and womxn work towards finding their sense of value while obtaining several ways to find healing. We are holistic trained therapists and an herbalist who works from a psychoanalytical lens that aids the process of further exploring, understanding, healing, and getting to the root of our problems. I have 7 years of clinical experience working with a diverse group of adults to build a stronger sense of self and confidence. Therapy is a journey. I specialize in working with adults experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship difficulties, life transitions, and identity-related concerns. I have experience supporting individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds, including LGBTQ+ patients and individuals from immigrant families navigating the intersection of cultural identity, family dynamics, and intergenerational experiences. I also have experience working with individuals facing more complex mental health challenges, including psychosis and other high acuity presentations, and I strive to provide a supportive, nonjudgmental environment where patients feel understood, empowered, and safe throughout the therapeutic process. My approach to therapy is informed by attachment theory, recognizing that our earliest relationships can shape how we experience trust, intimacy, conflict, and emotional safety throughout our lives. In therapy, we can explore these patterns with curiosity and compassion while developing healthier ways of relating to ourselves and others. I integrate psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), mindfulness, and somatic approaches, including breathwork and grounding techniques, to help patients build insight, strengthen coping skills, regulate emotions, and create meaningful, lasting change. I'm passionate about helping people recognize their strengths and create meaningful change, even during some of the most difficult periods of their lives. I value the opportunity to build genuine therapeutic relationships and provide a space where patients feel supported, understood, and empowered. Seeing patients gain insight, develop confidence, and achieve goals they once thought were out of reach is what makes this work so rewarding to me.
