Therapists for college students near New York, NY
I work with individuals, couples, and families who feel overwhelmed by anxiety, relationship challenges, or the complexities of multicultural and minority identity, including those adjusting to life in the U.S. as immigrants or managing the pressures of being an international professional. In therapy, I provide a safe space to explore these experiences, understand patterns, and develop strategies for self-understanding and emotional regulation, helping clients move toward a more fulfilling and authentic life. I specialize in supporting clients experiencing anxiety, depression, workplace burnout, relational conflicts, migration stress, and minority identity struggles. I help clients reconnect with their inner strengths and build healthier relationships. My focus includes international professionals, immigrants, and minority individuals. As psychoanalyst Nancy McWilliams writes, making mistakes and wishing we had done things differently is not a sign of pathology—it is part of the human condition. I bring this belief to my work, creating a space where clients feel understood, supported, and empowered to create meaningful change.
You may be dealing with a major life transition, struggling with expectations at school or work, feeling disconnected from yourself, or finding that anxiety, perfectionism, or people-pleasing is getting in the way of the life and relationships you want. You may also be working to better understand your identity, communicate your needs, set boundaries, or manage difficult emotions. That's where I can help. I am a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) specializing in anxiety, self-esteem, relationships, and life transitions, working with adolescents, young adults, and adults who may feel overwhelmed, stuck, or uncertain about what comes next as they navigate life's challenges in pursuit of greater confidence, connection, and well-being. My goal is to provide a supportive, LGBTQ+-affirming space where you can slow down and develop tools to move forward. I believe in the dignity, worth, and inherent strengths of every person. That meaningful change happens through trust, collaboration, and connection, so I strive to be a supportive partner who respects your autonomy and meets you where you are. In our work together, I hope to help you better understand yourself, build confidence in your own voice, and feel empowered to advocate for your needs. I value the opportunity to witness patients grow, heal, and recognize their own capacity for change, and I would be honored to walk alongside you in that process. I believe therapy is a collaborative process, and that you are the expert on your own life. That belief shapes an approach that is curious and compassionate, with space for us to explore your experiences, patterns, and goals together. Because I value self-determination, therapy is shaped around what feels most meaningful and helpful to you, which means creating a space where you feel genuinely heard, understood, and respected. I also recognize that taking the first step toward therapy can be difficult, and believe simply showing up is meaningful. From there, my role is to guide you as you navigate challenges, and work toward the changes you want to make. In doing so, you'll find a warm, welcoming, and non-judgmental environment where you can show up as you are. I draw from integrated, evidence-based practices adapted to your unique needs, goals, and lived experiences, while valuing open conversation and curiosity, following your lead, and making space for whatever feels most important to you. Therapy doesn't have to feel overly formal, and I bring my authentic self, and even a little humor into our work together when it feels appropriate. Wherever you are in your journey, I'll help you find an approach that feels helpful and genuine. My path to becoming a therapist began with a love of learning about human development and a desire to support others. I initially planned to become a teacher, gaining experience working in special education and supporting individuals on the autism spectrum. Those experiences sparked a deeper interest in understanding the many factors that shape a person's well-being, not just what happens within us, but also our relationships, environments, communities, and access to support. This ultimately led me to social work, where I found a field that allowed me to look at the whole person. I bring that perspective, along with curiosity and genuine compassion, into each session, because I believe everyone deserves to feel understood, supported, and empowered in their own journey. I enjoy creative hobbies like scrapbooking and crafting, listening to music, and reading. Exploring New York City is another favorite, whether I'm finding new cafés, traveling, or taking walks in the park. I am happiest spending time with friends, enjoying a sweet treat, watching a good movie or show, or relaxing at home with my cat.

(For referral email please email jonathanle@lementalhealthcounseling.com) My approach is to work on ways to change your thoughts, ways to be mindful of triggers, stimuli or outside factors that contribute to negative thinking and negative behaviors . I have worked on a vast amount of different concerns such as phobias, anxiety, or depressive symptoms and many other mental health concerns as well. I worked with a numerous people with different backgrounds and mental health concerns and while every client is unique, I was able to work with my clients to meet their goals and improve their mood and thoughts, and I believe I can provide the help and support for you too.
Our drive as therapists has always been to help others, and to help guide clients into finding their inner peace at a time when so many - and understandably so - have felt an intense amount of anxiety, sadness, and just an overall sense of emotional turmoil. We work through a lot of things with our clients: how to get unstuck, establishing boundaries, feeling more confident, and finding strategies to work through the anxiety and depression that plagues so many, to name a few. Most importantly however, we hope to be able to help you reclaim your own space in a world that demands you to be quiet. To be able to really live. Unapologetically. Bravely.
Some of the most meaningful moments in my work have come from patients who carried their struggles alone for far too long — people who finally decided, on their own terms, that something needed to change. As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), I work with young adults to older adults from a wide variety of backgrounds, life experiences, beliefs, and identities who may be navigating depression, anxiety, stress, relationship issues, and trauma. What you bring to our work together matters deeply to me. Together, we'll work on treatment aimed toward measurable and meaningful growth rather than simply managing symptoms. My approach is rooted in respect, honest partnership, and the belief that treatment works best when it's something you've chosen for yourself. Whatever brings you here, my hope is to help you grow into a version of yourself you may not have realized you could be. Drawing on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Mindfulness-based stress management techniques, I help you address the immediate obstacles you're facing, while using a psychodynamic approach to work through the deeper roots of core issues that may stem from key past experiences. I approach every session with curiosity, compassion, and open-mindedness, so you are empowered to achieve this healing in an environment where you feel safe and free to express yourself without fear of judgment. You can also expect to work with a therapist who understands what it means to be human, which is to be imperfect regardless of skillset or background. Mental health struggles aren't abstract to me, as I've faced my own. Guided by great therapists and mentors, those experiences taught me that warmth and acceptance aren't just values; they're clinical necessities. All patients, regardless of background, who are ready to do the work are welcome here. Music has always been an important part of my life. I play guitar and bass, write songs, and sing. In my free time, I enjoy gaming, staying creative, and spending time with family and friends.

Welcome to my practice. I am a licensed clinical psychologist with offices in Manhattan and Brooklyn, New York. I have practiced individual and couple therapy with adults independently since 2005. With extensive experience and advanced training in both the cognitive-behavioral and psychodynamic traditions, I specialize in helping individuals who struggle in stormy relationships, those who feel lonely or isolated, and those who too often feel frustrated and disappointed by themselves and their interactions with others, including in past experiences of psychotherapy. They may have experienced trauma or other early life stress, and may feel anxious and depressed. They may have been diagnosed with mood or personality disorders. Some have struggled to stay alive. I follow an integrative model comprised of cognitive-behavioral and psychodynamic approaches. I completed intensive training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and have practiced it extensively since 2005. I try to help people explore how their early experiences may still be affecting their thoughts, feelings and actions, and to try out alternatives. Before shifting to a fully independent practice in 2016, I was a supervising psychologist in a specialized program for the treatment of personality disorders. There I led DBT and interpersonal process groups, conducted individual therapy and assessments and supervised psychology interns. I welcome people from all backgrounds into my practice. I have found that a close examination of cultural, religious, gender and other factors can illuminate a person's current ways of thinking, feeling and behaving. I believe that physical and emotional safety and connection within a therapeutic relationship can help clients access and heal their relationships with themselves and others. For this reason, I deeply value the relationship I form with clients. I offer support with empathy and curiosity, as you move through old feelings, bring attention to your present experience, and build trust within yourself. My approach is collaborative and trauma-informed, with the goal of reducing feelings of shame and self-judgement. I will reflect and validate your experience, notice what might be happening in the moment, and encourage self-reflection. Trauma can block our ability to heal, and I have deep grounding in approaches that create a holding environment, gently and gradually building safety and trust. I can support you as you increase your capacity to heal, through sharing and corrective experience, so that you can experience more regulation and joy in the present. I work with adults and adolescents. Some of the issues I work with are anxiety, depression, and life transitions, as well as grief and loss. I’m an LGBTQ-affirming clinician and have experience working with issues particular to LGBTQ+ folks. I have extensive training and experience in developmental trauma treatment and attachment-oriented approaches. I have training in Internal Family Systems (IFS) and somatic approaches such as Sensorimotor Psychotherapy. I’ve also been a hospice volunteer, and completed trainings in grief counseling and end-of-life doula work. Other areas I’ve trained in are cultural humility, working with shame, treatment strategies for habits and addictions, ketamine-assisted psychotherapy, and psychedelic therapy for end-of-life anxiety and palliative care. I graduated with a BA in English from Barnard College, an MS.Ed. in Infant and Family Development and Early Intervention/Early Childhood Education from Bank Street College, and an MS.Ed. in Mental Health Counseling from CUNY Hunter College. I have over 15 years’ experience as a trauma-informed, early childhood special educator and mental health consultant. It would be an honor to connect with and bear witness to your process.
Are you naturally empathic, maybe having been labeled as “too sensitive?" at some point in your life? Using Brainspotting (a trauma intervention like EMDR) and IFS (a body-based parts work modality), I support deep-feeling queer, neurodivergent, and creative clients navigating anxiety, depression, struggles with self-love, parental/family dysfunction, and more - through the lens of social justice and the power of radical self compassion. Working together, we will sift through what you truly desire & the old messages that might be standing in your way.

Through a collaborative and interactive approach, we support our clients by exploring their emotional health and engaging in the change process, to reach their fullest potential. I work with clients navigating anxiety, depression, perfectionism, relationship challenges, executive functioning concerns, LGBTQ+ identity exploration, life transitions, and transitions into and out of competitive athletics. I collaborate with my clients to determine which therapeutic strategies best meet their unique needs, goals, and preferences. Above all, I hope to create a warm, safe space where clients feel empowered to make lasting changes and ultimately achieve their goals. Outside of the therapy room, I enjoy reading, playing tennis, thrifting, cooking, trying new restaurants, and traveling.
As a licensed marriage and family therapist with four years of experience, my work centers on helping individuals and couples in early to mid-life find their footing when it comes to dating, communication, family dynamics, work-life balance, and self-identity. Whether you're navigating a major life transition, working through relationship difficulties, or simply trying to feel more like yourself, you deserve a therapist who shows up as a genuine partner in that process. Authentic connection is at the heart of everything I do. You can expect a collaborative, accepting presence as we do this work together. I look forward to growing alongside you. Relationships are at the center of my practice, including the most important one you have: your relationship with yourself. From there, my approach is direct, collaborative, and individualized to your specific needs. Rather than applying a one-size-fits-all method, I draw on person-centered and acceptance-based techniques, tailoring each session to your unique life experience so that our work together always feels relevant to you. That tailoring extends to the environment we create as well. Sessions are open, accepting, and nonjudgmental by design, a space where you can show up as you are. My style is gentle and forthright, as forming therapeutic relationships that help people become more authentically themselves is something I'm deeply passionate about. Together, we'll work toward helping you more genuinely know yourself and the people in your life. My path to becoming a therapist began as a teenager hungry for a sense of meaning in my life. This hunger brought me to study philosophy and then psychology as an undergraduate. I slowly realized that rather than being individualized, identity and meaning are things that are built up between people: through our relationships to friends, romantic partners, family, colleagues, or anyone else. This experience deepened my commitment to building the sorts of relationships in which identity and meaning are strengthened and nurtured -- like the relationships built in therapy. I bring this emphasis on genuine, human connection to each session. When I'm not in session, you might find me at an archery range, out for a run, or deep in a book on history, philosophy, biology, or psychology. Kurt Vonnegut and a good ghost story are always welcome on the nightstand! Drawing, video games, and Magic: The Gathering round out the mix, along with plenty of walks and playtime with my dog.
Are you navigating life between two worlds, balancing family and cultural expectations with your own sense of self? Perhaps you're a child of immigrants, first-generation, or someone far from home asking deeper questions about who you are and where you belong. I'm a bilingual (English/Tagalog) psychotherapist specializing in depth-oriented, Jungian therapy. I work with Filipino Americans, Asian Americans, immigrants, and first-generation individuals doing the meaningful, sometimes difficult work of building an authentic identity, one that honors where they come from while making room for who they are becoming. My approach is exploratory and relational. Drawing from Jungian psychology, psychodynamic therapy, and somatic awareness, I work with the unconscious patterns, cultural conditioning, and intergenerational stories that shape your present life. This includes dream work, active imagination, and close attention to the body's wisdom alongside the mind's. If this resonates, I'd love to connect. I offer a free 15-minute consultation — reach out and let's talk. I also offer Walk & Talk therapy for clients in the Cupertino and Silicon Valley area - sessions conducted outdoors in nature for those who find that movement supports their process. Ask me about it when you reach out.
