Therapists for college students near New York, NY
My name is Mayra Ramirez and as a bilingual Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 10 years of experience in the mental health field, I believe prioritizing your mental well-being is essential to becoming the best version of yourself. College is more than classes and exams — it’s a major life transition. It’s where independence, identity, relationships, and future goals all collide at once. In my practice, I work with those who feel overwhelmed, anxious, stuck, or unsure about their next steps. Together, we identify patterns, strengthen coping skills, and build emotional resilience so you can move through this season with clarity and confidence. We will focus on helping you feel more confident, balanced, and in control during this important stage of your life.
Life can be overwhelming. The challenges of living with social isolation, emotional pain, grief, anxiety and depression can prevent us from living the life we desire. The effects of trauma can be unbearable and intolerable and can affect both the individual and those around them. Low self esteem and destructive urges and behaviors deter from productive and satisfying lives. Together, we'll improve your ability to express your feelings, reflect on your reactions and behaviors, develop life skills and gain awareness that can lead you to a more effective and full-filling life. My approach is validating and collaborative - Warm, down-to-earth and non-intimidating, I use DBT, EMDR and DBR to best address the needs of my clients. Hi! I am Dr. Monica Johnson. If you’re reading this, it means you are taking your mental and emotional health seriously and researching someone who will be a good fit for your journey. This is exciting! Let me tell you more about me to help you with your decision making process. I am a Licensed Psychologist in NYC, but some people think of me as a problem solving pro, empowerment guru, and self-compassion guide! I partner with my patients to find pathways to a better life. I work best with people who are tired of being stuck and ready to make changes. I can’t change you. Only you can do that, but I’m super excited to be your side kick on the journey and help you highlight roads to success. One of the most important things to know about me is that I am NOT a smile and nod type of therapist. I get down in the trenches with you. I’m down to earth and real with you through this process which means I will call you out on your BS and help you figure out what to do with it. We will work hard and laugh a lot. For the record, there is nothing off limits or shameful in therapy. I’ve seen it all and heard it all. If you need to talk about sex, money, medical issues, or “that one time in Amsterdam,” don’t hesitate! I work with people of all backgrounds (race, gender, sexuality, religion, alternative relationships) and you should expect that I will affirm your identity while helping you to develop a fuller self concept. My job is to help you tap into strengths you already possess (we all have them even if we can’t see them yet) and create new ones! If you are struggling with depression, anxiety, feel constantly overwhelmed by your emotions, past traumas, poor relationships, low self esteem, or just deciding what the next step is in your career/life, I can help.
Welcome to Unspoken Roots Psychotherapy! My name is Edward Chan, and I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and founder of Unspoken Roots Psychotherapy. I specialize in supporting Asian American college students and young adults as they navigate the unique challenges that can come from balancing personal goals, family expectations, cultural values, and the pressures of academic and professional success. Many Asian American students grow up carrying messages about achievement, responsibility, sacrifice, and making their families proud. While these values can be sources of strength, they can also contribute to anxiety, perfectionism, self-criticism, burnout, difficulty setting boundaries, and a persistent feeling of never being "good enough." You may find yourself succeeding on paper while privately struggling with stress, loneliness, imposter syndrome, or uncertainty about who you are beyond what you accomplish. Therapy offers a space to slow down and explore these experiences without judgment. Together, we can better understand the influences that have shaped you, process the challenges you're facing, and develop practical tools to manage anxiety, build self-confidence, strengthen relationships, and create a life that feels aligned with your own values—not just the expectations placed upon you. My approach integrates evidence-based therapies including CBT, ACT, DBT, and insight-oriented therapy while remaining sensitive to the cultural, familial, and identity-related experiences that many Asian American students navigate. Whether you're struggling with academic pressure, family dynamics, relationships, career decisions, or your sense of belonging, you don't have to carry it alone. At Unspoken Roots Psychotherapy, I strive to create a space where the experiences that often go unspoken can be explored openly, helping you cultivate greater self-understanding, balance, and fulfillment as you navigate college and beyond.

We have extensive experience working with young adults and college students, with a focus on anxiety, trauma and PTSD, relationship issues, and the life transitions and adjustment challenges that come with the college years — including career planning and decision-making around majors and future paths. As founder and clinical director, I bring direct experience with this population from my time at the NYU Student Health Center, where I provided psychotherapy and crisis assessment to college students, and I currently work with students from Columbia in private practice as well. I look for that same population experience when I bring clinicians onto the team, so it runs through the practice rather than being one person's specialty. Our team is trained in CBT, DBT, ERP, ACT, and psychodynamic approaches, with treatment that's short-term and goal-directed. We accept a wide range of insurance plans, including Aetna and Cigna, and are currently accepting new clients.

College can be an exciting time, but it can also bring unexpected stress, uncertainty, and change. Whether you’re struggling with anxiety, relationships, identity, grief, trauma, or simply feeling overwhelmed and unsure of what comes next, you don’t have to navigate it alone. I offer a warm, supportive space to slow down, make sense of what you’re experiencing, and reconnect with yourself. Together, we’ll explore what may be keeping you feeling stuck and build tools to help you feel more grounded, confident, and connected. I use approaches including EMDR, IFS, and ACT, tailoring therapy to your needs and where you are in your journey.
I am passionate about guiding clients on their journey to be their better self. I utilize a person-centered, trauma informed, and empowerment approach when working with clients. It is important for clients to have access to a therapist who looks like them and/or is understanding of their cultural experiences. As a Black clinician that identifies as a cisgender woman, I prioritize working with Black clients in general and Black women and LGBTQI+ persons in particular. I strive to help clients re-reparent their inner child to heal childhood wounds, create boundaries to reduce anxiety, and explore emotions to better understand self. I always show up as my authentic self; and, I want you to feel comfortable to show up as your authentic self. My time with you will be dedicated to you having that session time to learn, be, and grow into your full self. Your session is a time to explore emotions, relationship patterns, coping skills, and ways to solve barriers/problems in your life. My goal is to assist individuals from marginalized communities navigate oppression, micro/macro aggressions, trauma, and lack of understanding from others. In addition, my goal is to work collaboratively with you to heal, restore, and empower yourself. We will work on creating your goals and treatment together. Be prepared to show up and do the work. :)
Hello, I’m Stephanie! I'm here to help you on your journey to mental, physical, and emotional wellness. In my skillset, I incorporate the arts, mindfulness, and evidence-based behavioral techniques such as cognitive behavioral therapy and dialectical behavioral therapy. I believe in getting your needs met through learning how to manage oneself through day-to-day functioning, as well as finding balance in our emotions.
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with over 10 years of experience supporting individuals through stress, mood-related challenges, and life transitions. I work with college students and young adults navigating academic pressure, career decisions, relationship challenges, and fitness-related goals. Many of the students I work with feel overwhelmed, mentally drained, or unsure about their next steps. My approach is supportive, collaborative, and goal-oriented, with a focus on practical strategies that help you manage stress, build consistency, and feel more in control of your day-to-day life.
For 30+ years, I've helped adults recover from complex trauma, developmental and attachment trauma, narcissistic and psychopathic abuse, addictive disorders, emotional neglect and chronic relationship difficulties. My clients are insightful, motivated individuals struggling with codependency, dissociation, or the lasting effects of childhood trauma. Through trauma-informed psychodynamic therapy we identify and transform the survival patterns that once protected you but now limit your life. Healing fosters regulation and safety, allowing the parts of yourself exiled by fear, neglect, betrayal, and chronic adaptation to be reclaimed. I integrate psychodynamic, relational, and trauma-informed therapy with attachment theory, somatic awareness, neuroscience, mindfulness, and spiritual exploration. My goal is not simply symptom relief, but helping you create a cohesive, authentic life aligned with your deepest values and fullest potential. Therapy is a collaborative process grounded in curiosity, compassion and respect. Together we excavate the deeper origins of your emotional suffering while developing practical tools for nervous system regulation, healthier relationships, and lasting change. Even when trauma has shaped your life new patterns of safety, connection, and vitality can emerge.
As a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner at HOClinical, I work best with students who are high-achieving, driven, and carrying more than they let people see. Many of the students I support are balancing academics, work, family expectations, and relationships — while quietly dealing with anxiety, low mood, burnout, ADHD, sleep problems, or feeling overwhelmed. Some are struggling to focus. Others feel stuck, unmotivated, or not like themselves anymore. Many say, “I should be able to handle this,” but feel exhausted trying. If you’re a student who wants practical tools, clear guidance, and a provider who truly listens without judgment, we’re likely a good fit. I offer a supportive, down-to-earth approach that combines thoughtful medication management (when appropriate) with real strategies you can use right away to feel better, think clearly, and perform at your best. You don’t have to wait until you’re in crisis to get support. If you’re ready to feel more balanced, focused, and in control again, HOClinical is here to help.

My therapeutic style is collaborative, creative, and grounded in both trauma-informed and person-centered care. I believe that therapy works best when clients feel safe, heard, and understood. Building trust and genuine connection is at the core of my approach, and I strive to meet each client with empathy and curiosity rather than judgment. I draw from evidence-based modalities while tailoring treatment to the individual. This means our work together may include strategies from CBT, psychodynamic therapy, DBT, mindfulness, or strengths-based frameworks. I highly value your voice in the process and view therapy as a shared space where we can explore challenges, deepen insight, and build tools for healing and growth. I am especially passionate about supporting LGBTQ+ individuals and others navigating identity, anxiety, depression, life transitions, and relational stress. Together, we’ll work at a pace that feels right for you, and make sure to honor your strengths and resilience every step of the way.
Welcome to Soul Sync Health! We are a psychiatrist-led, trauma-informed practice in New York dedicated to providing evidence-based care for students and young adults. Many of the individuals we work with share a common feeling: on the outside, they seem to be "handling it," but on the inside, they are running on fumes. Whether you are navigating the pressure of being a high-achiever, feeling the weight of "imposter syndrome," or struggling to find your identity outside of academic or family expectations, you aren’t alone. We believe that your mental health cannot be separated from the world you live in, which is why our work is rooted in the understanding that your race, gender, sexuality, and cultural background deeply shape your lived experience. We invite your whole self into the room, acknowledging that systemic barriers and identity-based struggles are often at the heart of the stress you carry. We’ve found that our clients thrive best in a space where they don’t have to "perform" or explain away their cultural values. If you’re tired of being told to simply "practice self-care" while your plate remains overflowingly full, we offer a different, culturally responsive approach. Our practice is a judgment-free zone where we help you untangle the "mental fog" of anxiety, code-switching, and decision fatigue. By breaking down big, overwhelming feelings into smaller, manageable pieces, we work together to move you from a state of constant survival to a place of genuine, grounded confidence. We strive to provide care that is curious rather than presumptive, meeting you with the validation you deserve as you navigate the complexities of your unique identity. Our ultimate goal is to help you build a life that feels authentic to you, not just one that looks good on paper. We work best with those who are ready to look beneath the surface and explore the roots of their stress, building sustainable tools that last long after graduation. At Soul Sync Health, we prioritize a collaborative approach that honors your perspective and helps you dismantle the internal and external pressures holding you back. You don’t need to have the "right" words or a perfect plan to start; you just need to show up as you are. We’re here to help you find your own rhythm in the middle of all the noise.
As a therapist, I specialize in guiding individuals through the twists and turns of relationships and life transitions. I believe in a personalized, compassionate approach to therapy that meets you where you are and moves at your pace. Whether you're navigating romantic relationships, family dynamics, academic pressures, career shifts, or personal growth, together we can find clarity, peace, and confidence on your journey—while keeping it real and lighthearted along the way. I believe that therapy is not just about understanding the past, but about empowering you to take charge of your present and future. With a focus on practical solutions, emotional support, and a compassionate approach, I aim to help you gain clarity, strengthen your relationships, and move forward with confidence and resilience. You have the power to rewrite your story—let’s work together to create a chapter full of strength, resilience, and possibility!

I am also equipped with the knowledge to work with individuals with special needs, such as autism and developmental disabilities.
