Therapists for college students near Temple University
Most people who look at you might never know how much you are struggling. Your pattern of holding it all in, staying busy, or pulling away from others has worked well enough to get you through… till now. Now, it feels more like you’re caught in an endless maze of thoughts and worries, or like there’s a weighted blanket dragging you down. When anxiety or depression are present, everything in life can feel more difficult. I am a trauma-informed therapist specializing in helping you unpack those things that connect your past and present to build a more fulfilling, authentic future. I take a practical and straightforward approach to therapy and am comfortable with discomfort if it means making progress. As your therapist, I will take the time to see things from your point of view. You know your life best, so I will listen and understand. My sessions are open, honest, and thoughtful. Therapy shouldn't be another place where you have to pretend. I will work to understand the real you and use my experience to help you.

Current openings for new clients are available as of 9/1/2021. Throughout our lives, experiences we have can lead us to feel disconnected in various ways, from our own sense of self and values, important people in our life, and our emotions. This disconnection can result in feelings of loneliness and isolation, lack of motivation, overwhelming anxiety, or uncertainty about who we are and what we want in life and it often leads to unhealthy ways of coping (e.g., emotional eating, focusing too much on work, lack of self-care, etc.). My focus in working with clients is to help them reconnect with themselves, with others, and with their emotions so that they can lead a more satisfying life filled with meaningful relationships and purpose. My approach to therapy is primarily rooted in a modern psychodynamic orientation. As such, I value the development of a strong therapeutic relationship and meaningful connection with clients. Together, we work on understanding unhealthy patterns and improve ability to cope with distress, manage multiple life roles, live a more balanced life, and connect more fully with emotions. I am especially passionate about working with college-aged students and athletes who may be experiencing eating and/or body image concerns, as well as issues related to men and masculinity. . I earned my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Penn State University and completed my internship and post-doctoral fellowship at the Center for Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) at Penn State University.

Hi! I'm Diane, a Licensed Professional Counselor in Pennsylvania. I have experience working alongside individuals with depression, anxiety, grief/loss, and adjustment concerns. I employ an eclectic approach that includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and mindfulness and problem-solving techniques, along with others, to assist you. I am not certified in a specific approach; however, I have had training and experience with each. I am grateful you have started the journey to begin mental health counseling; I can understand how scary this may be for you. I am here to help you process situations and build skills to aid you in overcoming your challenges. I believe one of my greatest strengths is building rapport to determine how to best be present for you, through empathy and active listening, in a judgment free space, and walk with you on this journey. Counseling is not a 'one size fits all' endeavor and I will spend time getting to know you to determine what best fits you as an individual.
Open Space Counseling, Consulting & Wellness is a LGBTQIA+, racial and relationship minority affirming practice. Our mission is to eliminate fear of judgement as a barrier to personal growth. You’re likely here because your life isn’t quite where you’d like it to be. You’re struggling with relationships, or finding yourself reliving old patterns that are causing you pain. You’re sick of feeling so isolated, depressed, disconnected, and frustrated when everyone else on Instagram seems so much happier and more successful. Maybe you’ve been trying to solve these problems on your own for a long time, yet still feeling stuck in the same old rut. You might be contemplating a big transition. You might really need space to talk through all the jumbled up thoughts and feelings inside. Maybe it'd be helpful to share the self-critical thoughts ("I am broken;" "I'm a failure;" "I have nothing to offer;" "I can't change;" "If I make changes, everyone will hate me"), so that we can look at them together, and notice that they aren't you. I am experienced in providing supportive counseling to folks across the lifespan, in and around the gender binary, and at all stages of “acuity.” In light of my experience, I am a staunch believer in the philosophy that all people have the resources inside themselves to make changes toward becoming ever more healthy, connected, and complex. The focus of my approach is self-acceptance. This means that I'm not going to push you to talk about things you're not ready to talk about yet, or offer much in the way of advice or homework. Instead, we'll make space for you to examine your process toward making the changes you want for your life. I am a gender affirming therapist specializing in trans and nonbinary wellness. Since 2013, I have co-authored several letters of recommendation for medical gender confirmation, and am familiar with that process. I also know that many people aren’t seeking physical changes as a part of their journey. In 2021, I obtained WPATH certification, which rewards those committed to staying on top of both the current evidence and consensus in the field through continuing education. It is the gold standard of trans-specific healthcare certification.
I hope to offer a place where you can be the healthiest version of yourself. I offer in person sessions as well as over video in order to accommodate your schedule. My goal is to assist clients to live a happy, successful, and healthy life.
You've trained your body, let's strengthen your mind. I provided a safe space for athletes to explore the internal game - with clarity, courage and compassion. Do you experience hypervigilance? panic? overwhelm? avoidance? unexplained physical symptoms? Many of my clients didn't realize that their symptoms of anxiety, depression, chronic pain, and relationship struggles stem from trauma. Trauma isn't just something soldiers experience — it encompasses so many different life experiences. I use EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) to get at the root of your symptoms, rather than putting a bandaid on them for a temporary fix. I'm trained in EMDR 2.0 and the Four Blinks Flash technique, and I use advanced EMDR software to work effectively with clients online. I also offer Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) for clients ready to go deeper when talk therapy has reached its limits, along with Internal Family Systems (IFS) and ADHD-informed therapy. I've worked extensively with people in the LGBTQ+ community. If you're interested in working together, reach out to schedule a free 15-minute consultation — we can decide if we're a good fit. You are making an amazing and brave step in your healing journey!
I have more than 12 years of experience in the field of counseling. I have had the privilege of working with people from many backgrounds and life experiences, including those with a history of mental health illnesses or conditions and co-occurring disorders. As a Licensed Professional Counselor, I desire to work with people to help them find their own potential, and to pursue their goals in life. By nature, I use a holistic approach to therapy for the clients I work with which allows me to learn who my clients are as people before working with them to develop a personalized health plan based on their values, needs, and goals. This has been a valuable approach for me as a therapist over the years.
Hello, I’m Desiree, a licensed Professional Counselor and Board Certified Art Therapist dedicated to helping individuals harness the transformative power of art to foster personal growth and healing. My approach to utilizing the art in session to talk and explore challenging experiences and emotions. It can be hard to make sense of complicated emotions and find the words to express them, this is where Art can help this process! Art can offer a way to explore a wide range of emotional and mental challenges. By integrating various art modalities, such as painting, drawing, sculpting, and collage, I encourage clients to express themselves in a non-verbal and symbolic way, unlocking their inner voice and facilitating self-discovery.
