My role with clients is to be an observer, to transformation and change. Just as in metaphysics, having an observer changes the dynamics of the situation. In my role I don’t just observe but compassionately walk with those I work with and take a non-directive approach to what the individual perceives as precedent. Through mindfulness practices we aim to recenter the body, mind and felt sense of what the individual is processing. Through this somatic approach we emphasize the importance of feeling, what the mind is rationalizing. This may present itself as parts of us that come to light with observation and acknowledgement. The bridging of worldviews is made by shifting root metaphors and bringing awareness to the archetypal nature of the issues that all human beings face as part of being alive. By providing a safe non-judgmental space that invites the sum parts of an individual, we look to address the shadow work and take a deeper look into the smoky mirror. If you are searching for healing and striving to be the best version of yourself, I encourage you to reach out. I would be honored to chat and see if we are a good fit to accompany your journey of self-discovery.

As a licensed therapist, my approach integrates various therapeutic modalities to address a range of concerns. My work is client-centered and solution focused, combining EMDR, Internal Family Systems, and Emotional Focused Therapy. Sometimes, folx are concerned that their therapist is going to make them lie on a couch while they say nondescript and cryptic things like "hmmm" and "I see" and "how does that make you feel?" While I do ask the last question, I can promise that the therapy I provide is not that of the 1920s. I believe that you are the best expert on yourself and my role as your therapist is to help you uncover what you already know and put it into action. Reaching out to a therapist can be scary, but I hope you'll take that moment - perhaps after a few deep breaths - to give it a shot. You deserve the best care available to you from someone who gets it and truly enjoys the work that I do. I love my job and approach each session with an open mind and heart and a deep desire to walk alongside you as we meet your challenges together. I specialize in working with the LGBTQIA+ community (of which I am a part) as well as individuals and relationship partners who are navigating anxiety, sexuality, trauma, family conflict, and identity stress. After 10+ years of experience working in the field, I am uniquely qualified to understand many of the challenges and difficulties affiliated with finding balance and living authentically in this world.
Welcome! I am an LCSW with 29+ years experience specializing in trauma. I have been in private practice for 21 years and I worked in residential treatment and inpatient psychiatric hospitals with adolescents prior to this. I am licensed in CO, WA, OR and NY.
Do you feel stuck? Do you feel like you know all the rules and what you are “supposed to do” but somehow can’t get where you want to go? As your therapist, it is my goal to help you feel at home in your mind, body, and heart. I can help deconstruct and shift your “shoulds” into something that feels more authentic and meaningful to you. We also can dig into your past and explore how old coping mechanisms that may have helped at one time are now limiting. I am trained in a myriad of techniques—including mindfulness and EMDR—to gently guide your mind and body back to the present moment to a state of well-being and resiliency. I believe in your innate goodness and will always remind and point this out to you. I cannot tell you what is right/wrong or healthy/unhealthy and I resist being another voice telling you what you are “supposed to do”. My job is to provide a warm and accepting space to not just think and talk but to feel the big emotions. I will ask questions, reflect, and ponder alongside you as we rediscover your inherent wisdom and regain a sense of freedom. My clients tend to be intelligent humans who feel caught in their anxious minds, trauma, or simply desire support in living a more authentic and meaningful life. I work with people suffering from anxiety, perfectionism, life changes and transitions, grief, disordered eating, trauma, panic attacks, binge eating disorder, low self esteem, poor body image, and depression among many more. Let’s connect. I’d love to hear from you. Book a free 20 minute phone consult: https://electra-byers.clientsecure.me

You deserve to live a life on your terms. Sometimes this can seem impossible when experiencing anxiety, depression or low self esteem. You feel stuck. This can make it difficult to make decisions about who you want to be or how to get to where you want to go. My belief is that counseling is an opportunity to gain a deeper sense of personal meaning and allow for more self-understanding, which can help to reduce these intense emotions as well as helping to clarify what you want out of life. My approach is interactive; together we create a space where you are seen, heard, and understood. It is in this space that I will not only listen to your story but also be assessing how your body is reacting to the events in your life. I use mindfulness, cognitive work and EMDR in session, all practices that will help you to learn how to regulate yourself better and ultimately allow for healing from past traumatic or uncomfortable experiences.

I believe our world can be so fast-paced and suffers from a lack of presence. This can result in isolation, not feeling heard, or feelings of overwhelm and stress. If you need a place to set your burdens down for a moment, I am able to give you that support. I feel equipped to help you if you are struggling with any trauma, grief, attachment wounds, neurodiversity, career guidance, anxiety/depression, or men's/women's/general identity challenges. If you are feeling burdened or hurt, you are not alone. I encourage you to reach out to me. Even if we are not a good fit, I enjoy helping you to find a therapist who is!
