Therapists for college students near 02138
I work collaboratively with students who face a variety of challenges, including life transitions, relationship issues, and navigating queer identities. College and graduate school typically occur at pivotal developmental points for people in terms of figuring out who they are, what they want, and separating/individuating from parental figures. Together, we will work to understand your inner life, what works and what doesn't in terms of your thinking, behavior and ways of relating to others. Often, patterns develop that help us stay safe and secure when we're young, but would benefit from re-examination and modification to live a more fulfilling adult life. I have a sub-specialty working with people with Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD), a highly distressing fixation on a perceived appearance defect that can impact daily functioning and quality of life. I help you understand where the appearance fixation originated, including negative self appraisals and rituals/compulsions that accompany BDD. Learning to face feared and avoided situations is a gradual process that takes place over time, freeing you from the hold of BDD and leading to improved functioning and a more satisfying life.
Looking for help with medicines and/or therapy? We've got you! Our group of psychiatrists is dedicated to helping you while you're away at school. We see folks in CA, IL, MA, NY, and TX. There are appointments available right away - no 6 month wait. Send us a message and we'll figure out how to help.
My Approach & Values Hope and the belief that it’s possible to recover are the foundation of the work I do. You deserve and can expect a full recovery. Keep in mind that medications are not the only modality available to treat mental illness. Many don’t experience full remission of symptoms with the available psychopharmacological treatment alone. However, there is empirical data that shows the efficacy of augmenting medication with psychotherapy and lifestyle changes. Simple changes aid individuals in regaining a meaningful life, even when recovery stalls. The goal is to gain control of your life back with emphasis on managing symptoms and building resilience. Some thoughts to keep in mind include the questions listed below. - How can we move forward? - What new goals could be set? - How can we get your new life back on track? - Can we work together to develop your support system? - What skills can you learn to cope with periods of crisis?
Are you ready to move into the next phase of your life? Maybe not... But if you *want* to be ready, that's a great place to start. At Building Hope, we offer supportive and straightforward care with no judgement - We want to understand you and help you live your best life, whatever that looks like for you. You are brave for researching the right therapist for you. If you are interested in working with us, shoot us an email and we will get back to you as soon as possible. Let's get you ready for the next chapter in your life!

Life can be incredibly stressful and lonely, at times, especially during the college years. I believe in the ability of therapy to help people heal and change. Often, this process starts when we feel at our lowest—lost and overwhelmed. An experienced therapist, I provide a warm, compassionate space to talk about the things that matter to you, explore what might be holding you back, and create a plan together to make the changes you desire. People say I put them at ease and quickly bring a new perspective to the way they have been thinking about a problem. Currently offering Telehealth sessions during the COVID-19 pandemic. Congrats! You have done the first and often hardest step of finding a therapist. During these difficult times, it makes sense that you might be feeling lost and needing more support. This time can be especially hard for people who have experienced trauma or struggle with anxiety and depression. I specialize in working with young adults who have gone through recent or past trauma(s) or who struggle with long term depression or anxiety. I want to teach you the skills that you need to be your own therapist. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, which is an evidence based practice, that helps you learn the skills to become your own therapist. CBT is a collaborative approach that empowers you to be in the driver's seat of your treatment. Through my experience and research, CBT has show to be beneficial for those who struggle with PTSD, depression, and anxiety. It is important to me to provide a non-judgmental, empathetic place where you can share your thoughts and feelings.
