It has always been my take on life that we must find joy and satisfaction in what we do and who we are. I have been working as a mental health professional since 2006 and I find joy in the work that I do each and every day. I prioritize creating a healthy balance between the work that I love, my self-care, and time with my family. I value the opportunity I have to help people find their way and find balance in their lives, whether this is through closure with the past or building new skills to cope with current life challenges. I knew when I was a teenager that this is the work that I wanted to do. I have always felt drawn towards helping people. I received my undergraduate degree from Flagler College in Florida and earned my Graduate degree from Assumption College here in MA. Right out of school, I worked for South Bay Mental Health doing in-home therapy. Once I became licensed I moved into an office setting and I worked at Arbour Counseling for about 8 years. After which I started graduating into private practice. A few colleagues and I came together to create Grove Counseling Services in Worcester, MA. Until COVID-19 presented, we were thriving. I now work out of Millbury, MA and continue to do what I love.

College can be exciting, but it can also feel stressful, lonely, or uncertain at times. I view therapy not only as a means of reducing emotional distress but also as an approach to personal growth. However, I believe that therapy should not be a way of life and I therefore support clients in developing concrete skills, with emphasis on working with emotions: promoting a better understanding of emotions and emotion regulation. I view therapy as a collaborative process of exploration. I bring to this process an attitude of compassionate curiosity and non-judgment. I also draw on my own bi-cultural experience - I was born and raised in Prague, Czech Republic. I practice emotion-focused therapy, which emphasizes the positive, adaptive roles of emotions. Sometimes, however, due to stress, trauma or adverse life events, emotions can become a source of distress. Through empathic, collaborative exploration I help my clients identify their authentic emotional needs and develop strategies for managing and regulating distressing emotions. If you are located in Western Mass (Pioneer Valley) I also offer walking therapy and animal assisted therapy. Therapy is my 2nd career. My PhD is in Computer Science (Artificial Intelligence) and my therapeutic work is informed by 25+ years of research in AI and cognitive & affective science. I am thus very familiar with academic environments and draw on this knowledge when working with students, both undergraduate and graduate.
I am a licensed mental health counselor. My goal is to support clients with their mental health as well as stress management, relationship issues, and finding the appropriate services. Therapy does not have to solely be for people in crisis. Being proactive with your mental health and attending therapy can have long-lasting benefits. My first goal when starting with a client is building rapport. In order for therapy to be effective, there needs to be a mutual trust between the client and therapist. I primarily use a cognitive behavioral and person centered approach to therapy. Although every session typically includes “talk therapy,” I also try to use a variety of interventions. I also have a therapy dog in my office who loves to cuddle on the couch with patients.
I am most often described as "passionate". I put my whole being into every decision I make. I believe that steady hard work always has a positive payout in the end. Sometimes the big picture can be overwhelming and daunting, I break life down into manageable and realistic steps. Therapy is your time. Sessions with me are are directed by your needs and are action oriented.
I am a warm, straightforward therapist focused on providing effective treatment. I work to connect genuinely with each of my patients because I believe the first component of effective treatment is the formation of a trusting, non-judgmental therapeutic relationship. With this relationship as the foundation, we can then collaboratively determine your goals and take measurable steps to achieving the change you want in your life. I specialize in the treatment of adolescents and young adults struggling with depression, sexual and gender identity, suicidality, emotion regulation, anxiety, eating disorders, relationship problems, family issues, academic and occupational stress, and life transitions. I specialize in Dialectical and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. These approaches seek to provide practical skills to manage the emotions and thoughts that are interfering with our lives. I have also trained in trauma based and exposure protocols. In addition, I have specific training in supporting those who identify as gender non-conforming and offer both assessment and supportive counseling to individuals and families. I appreciate the courage it takes to talk with a therapist. Therapy is a very active process, with both the client and the therapist putting in considerable effort, and I will work with you to create the treatment environment that best meets your individual needs.
