Therapists for college students near Ann Arbor, MI
Hey there, I'm Claire! I am a Limited Licensed Marriage & Family therapist, and member of Michigan’s chapter of Postpartum Support International. My clinical work has been with couples and individuals navigating non-monogamy, LGBTQIA2S+ identities, ADHD, Autism, anxiety, disordered eating, people-pleasing, and grief. I especially enjoy working with teens/youth to create accepting spaces where we don’t need to mask. I offer in-person mental health therapy appointments, and telehealth when needed. Outside the office, I can be found talking to my friendly neighborhood highland cows and occasionally my plants. I strive to build safe spaces with my clients where their strengths are celebrated. My training is in systems theory, a trauma-informed therapeutic approach that respects how our relationships with the world impact our personal journeys. I embrace therapy as a collaborative, client-centered experience that creates new opportunities for growth. Lisa Olivera inspired me when she stated, “Just because no one else can heal or do your inner work, does not mean you can, should, or need to do it alone.” We all heal in different ways, and I value the importance of meeting a client where they are at in their healing journey, remaining patient every step of the way. I believe that everyone should have the opportunity to heal in a safe space, alongside someone who can guide and teach them along the way. As a therapist I am dedicated to creating a safe space for all of my clients, working collaboratively with each individual as they work towards their current goals while ensuring a consistent, non-judgmental environment is maintained. I am a LLMSW with prior work experience in private practice and family preservation. I utilize a variety of therapeutic modalities and interventions, including but not limited to, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCBT), Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), and Motivational Interviewing. I am committed to ensuring my clients feel that their voices have been heard, while guiding them towards recognizing their full potentials.

I work primarily with individuals who struggle with anxiety, depression and diminished self-esteem. These issues manifest in many different ways and may include an inability to make decisions, difficulty maintaining relationships, low confidence, discomfort in social settings, exhaustion, fears that may seem irrational and poor view of self. I enjoy digging into these issues because they can be debilitating and it is amazing to witness the life change that can occur through therapeutic self discovery. Through the use of Mindfulness and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy techniques, my focus involves supporting clients in self-esteem development, anxiety reduction, mood improvement and personal growth. It is important to me that my clients truly feel heard and I strive to instill strength in every session. If you are ready to take control of your life, move past fear and doubt and really SOAR, schedule an appointment today. I am excited to join you in this journey of healing and self discovery!

College is the ultimate life experience, but it can also cause a lot of anxiety, doubt, confusion, and feelings of inadequacy. It also brings along questions of “am I good enough,” “did I choose the right path,” and “how am I going to get through this”? Guess what? These are all normal feelings and thoughts that every college student experiences to some degree or another, and I am here to help you navigate them! However, what happens if tragedy strikes, or you find yourself struggling with disabling anxiety, or chronic pain and/or illness? That was the predicament I found myself in during Graduate School. I thought it was all over for me, I thought I was going to fail out of school, and was told I could never work in the field of social work. Well, I’m here to tell you they were WRONG! I made it through all the trials and tribulations, graduated with Honors, and I am here to help you navigate your struggles and help you continue to pursue your dreams! If you are struggling with daily college life, are experiencing debilitating mental health issues, or are trying to power through chronic pain and/or illness to acquire your college degree and make your dreams come true I am here to help you on your journey!
School can be exciting, overwhelming, and full of change. For many students, being in a campus environment can also bring increased body image pressures, stress, and challenges with eating, making this a time when eating disorders, OCD, anxiety, and other mental health concerns often show up or become more intense. I've spent years specializing in eating disorders and OCD across higher levels of care and outpatient private practice, giving me the experience to support you wherever you are in your recovery. My goal is to create a warm, collaborative space where you can build practical tools, feel more like yourself, and spend less time stuck in symptoms and more time living the life you want.

I own a private practice located in Grand Rapids, MI. I see a wide range of topics for what clients come to seek help with, and enjoy working with individuals in the college and young adult season of life and all the complexities and questions that can sometimes arise. I tend to do a lot of work with clients on engaging their self-awareness and deepening their insight as well as addressing practical aspects of what they are navigating, including problem solving, improving relational dynamics, and helping think about big questions and unknowns they may be facing.
I specialize in treating trauma, anxiety, and chronic stress using evidence-based models. I work with children (8+), teens, and adult women. I don't offer general supportive counseling. Each client is matched to a researched treatment protocol shown effective for their concern. Therapy with me is collaborative. I value clients willing to engage with structured strategies in and outside session. Every client can expect compassion, respect, and genuine care. Credentials in evidence-based trauma treatment, matched to clients by clinical need: Nationally Certified: Trauma-Focused CBT (TF-CBT) Registered Provider: Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT-PTSD) Certified: Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) Trained: Written Exposure Therapy (WET for PTSD) Trained: Supporting Parents of Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE) I believe we all have the ability to change, grow and heal. My work centers on building a safe, trusting relationship where you feel truly heard, and where the evidence-based approach we use together is one you believe in. The PTSD Treatment Decision Aid will help you learn about effective treatment options for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). It will give you the facts you need to make an informed decision. I work well with many clients, but the following clients would get the most out of scheduling an appointment. A client who is trying to navigate through some significant life changes/stressors and who is clear that things need to change in their lives, but is not sure where to start. A client who needs guidance to steer themselves towards their life goals. I believe that there is seldom a "right way" to achieve a certain outcome, and treatment needs to be tailored to a client's needs. I can offer more structured approaches, such as CBT, or less structured approaches, such as existential therapy.
