Therapists for college students near Ann Arbor, MI
I am skilled in anxiety and stress interventions as well as have a good listening ear. My goal is to have you leaving each session feeling heard and empowered. Sometimes life is hard! I am here to help navigate what feels challenging and join you in finding your path.
Every person can achieve a sense of empowerment and self-assuredness. To achieve that, I strive to make sure my clients feel heard, validated, and valuable. Also, I work collaboratively with clients to identify their strengths and overcome that which may be holding them back from being their most authentic and fulfilled selves. I feel honored to hear and be entrusted with the words, thoughts, and feelings of those I provide service to, and I do not take that lightly. I value creating a warm and welcoming therapeutic space where you can “let your hair down” and speak freely about your dreams, fears, joys, and obstacles. I believe that kind of empathetic and non-judgmental approach to therapy is essential to developing an alliance between us, collaborating effectively, and ultimately assisting you with achieving your goals. Allow me to meet you where you are at and walk with you to where you want to go.
Coming from a spirit of warmth and optimism, I wholeheartedly believe that change is not only possible, but likely. People are resilient, and through the healing (and a little bit of humor…) that happens in the clinical space, clients can experience the growth they’ve been hoping for. I aim to leave clients with a sense that they are in a partnership with someone who is committed to their wellbeing. Throughout the years, my clients have often so generously shared with me reflections like, “You just get me” and “I feel safe”. They’ve given me the credit when, truly, the work is only possible because they invite me into knowing their wishes, strengths, and challenges. Together, we consider those echoes from the client’s past that sometimes spill into their lives today. Examining those circumstances that clients bravely come to therapy with can allow for deeper joy and peace in their lives. And when exploring those circumstances feels vulnerable, I remind clients, “No judgement here”.
My philosophy on therapy involves a creative, eclectic, and collaborative use of therapeutic styles to best match your specific needs and personality. You are a unique individual, and I am grateful for the opportunity to explore your strengths and support you in developing meaningful skills, resiliency, and lasting change. No matter who you are, where you’re from, or what you’re going through, you deserve to be helped and to be heard!
Whether it's short term therapy to help trauma processing or something more long-term, my priority is to create a welcoming, non-judgmental space to help you overcome challenges. It is possible to transform hurts, traumas, and negative conditioning into healthy new patterns. Becoming aware of and accepting your thoughts and feelings can empower you to live fully in the present moment and create new, healthier ways of coping. My experience includes working with adults experiencing: depression, anxiety, trauma, bipolar disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, personality disorders, relationship/family concerns, grief and loss, addiction issues, and many other life transitions. I am trained in and use evidence-based practices such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), internal family systems (IFS), and solution-focused therapy

I specialize in trauma/PTSD, anxiety, and life transitions. I am trained in EMDR which can be helpful with intrusive thoughts and images as well, such as those caused by OCD or phobias. Our goal is to help each person we work with achieve the highest level of functioning that is possible for that individual. The talented team at Brighton Center for Pediatric Neurodevelopment approaches each toddler, child, 'tween, teen, and young adult as a complete, unique person, rather than just someone with a set of “symptoms” that needs to be corrected.
People change when they feel heard, understood and cared about! Therapy is about creating a safe, reflective space for clients to gain insight and increase their reflective capacity. Therapy is about creating a safe, reflective space for clients to gain insight and increase their capacity to reflect on themselves, their experiences, and their relationships. My job as a therapist is to partner with you to help you work toward your goals and reach your highest potential. My specialty is infant mental health, which focuses on kids’ healthy development in the context of safe, secure caregiving relationships. I use attachment-based strategies to help parents process their early childhood experiences and relationships and explore how those impact their current reality and parenting style. Babies have a unique way of reminding us of our hopes and dreams, but also of our painful experiences. It’s important that parents get the support they need to process their own histories and manage stress so that they are better able to understand their children. Children grow best when they feel loved, safe, and understood…and the same goes for parents! We are all in need of some support! If you are looking for a safe ear to listen, a fresh perspective, some new skills, or simply someone to hold space for all the feelings you are having- please, give me a call. “We don’t have to do all of it alone. We were never meant to.” –Brene Brown
The client-therapist relationship is one of the most important factors in determining client outcomes. Establishing a safe-space and trusting relationship allows us to explore your experiences and offer new perspectives that can promote healing and personal growth. My core theoretical orientation in graduate school was humanistic-existential, though I have also received extensive training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), particularly Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and CBT for Insomnia. I am also proficient in the provision of two trauma-focused, evidence-based treatments: Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE). In therapy, I often utilize mindfulness and introduce skills related to acceptance as well as change. My approach to treatment is eclectic and largely dependent on the individual client. I adapt my approach to ‘meet you where you are at.’ After learning what you hope to get out of treatment and what aspects of your life you may be struggling with, we collaborate to come up with a treatment plan that can guide the therapeutic journey and help you reach your goals. It would be my privilege to walk with you to achieve your therapeutic goals, whether they are to gain new insights, skills, knowledge, healing, or personal growth. I specialize in trauma and have a passion to serve veterans, military personnel, and their families. I have also worked extensively with former professional athletes and people with traumatic brain injury.
I believe that anxiety does not have to control your life! I seek to create a supportive, empathetic relationship with my clients in order to help them reduce the suffering in their lives and learn new skills. I implement an integrative approach to best suit each client. I love working with people who are looking to make positive changes in their lives. My goal is to partner with my clients and support them along their journeys. I have specialized experience helping those with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), panic disorder, generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), social anxiety, and phobias. My favorite treatment methods to use with clients include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), DBT-informed therapy, Exposure & Response Prevention (ERP), and Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC). Above all, I strive to use all of the clinical skills I have to best meet my clients’ unique needs.
Life sucks. Sometimes you need someone to help it feel less sucky. Other times, you just need someone to agree with you. Life is about balancing acceptance and change, and my therapy reflects that. My favorite therapies that I’ve seen change not only my clients’ lives, but also my life, include dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and exposure therapy (ERP). But ultimately, I think the best therapy is being accepted for who you are. My expertise is in treating issues that result from anxiety (generalized anxiety, phobias, OCD, and everything in between), pregnancy (from infertility to postpartum to grieving due to miscarriage or abortion), and trauma (which not only includes PTSD, but also complex-PTSD/borderline personality disorder and identity-based trauma). However, YOU are the expert of your life. I’ll work with you to create a therapy plan in the direction YOU want your life to go. Overall, I combine my extensive training in evidence-based treatments with creating a space that highlights your strengths, is trauma-informed, and is also anti-oppressive.
I believe counseling is a process of fostering and encouraging hope: hope for support, hope for change, and hope for new possibilities. We will work together to create a space that is safe and comfortable for you, where change is possible. I believe that, as the client, you are the expert on your own life and have the power to find the solutions that will work best for you. I simply help facilitate this process and support you along the way. There is always hope, and with some time and attention given, we will forge the path toward a fulfilling life for you. We’ve all experienced times when we could benefit from support. Counseling is a space in which you can be your authentic self and gain the help you desire. I will work to understand where you are coming from and where you want to be. This might include clarifying your present concerns, challenging current beliefs or thought patterns, and deepening personal insight. I am conscious of the unique strengths and resiliency of each individual and try to enhance and incorporate these aspects into therapy. As a counselor, it is my role to lend a listening ear, provide the tools you need, and walk alongside you throughout this process of growth, self-discovery, and reestablishment of hope. Addressing underlying concerns and applying necessary changes can be a difficult process to begin. However, with a supportive environment and strong therapeutic relationship, change is not only possible, but likely. The process will be individualized to you, as your unique perspectives and experiences guide the therapeutic process. I aim to build a safe, nonjudgmental, and empathic relationship, where we will collaborate to determine how best to address your concerns. Using a person-centered approach, we will explore areas that are meaningful to you, such as your beliefs, experiences, thoughts, and concerns. I will help you by providing opportunities to learn new skills, increase awareness, and understand a way forward, toward hope and change.
Sometimes entering into counseling can be a little scary and uncomfortable. One of the most important things I hope to be able to provide you with is an environment where you feel comfortable and respected to allow change and healing to occur. I believe that you are the expert on you and thus should be the one in the driver seat of your change and healing. Through collaboration, education and perseverance we can help you to achieve your goals and work to continue building a better you!
Fortitude: “strength of mind that enables a person to encounter danger or bear pain and adversity with courage.” This courage is something we all carry, but oftentimes the weight of the challenges we face can be too much to carry alone. I believe in the power of having teammates that we can call on for support- people who can help empower us to put one foot in front of the other. I strive to be a great teammate. I am passionate about empowering others, and I am intentional in my learning and growing to help foster the success of those around me. I look forward to being a source of support for you as we engage on this journey together! ----- Sports have always been a large part of my life and often drive the work that I do. Really, sports can be a great metaphor for life. They have the power to be more than just a game, a match, a meet, or an event; they are able to teach us things we never thought we needed to know. We often learn and grow through the games we love. As players in the game of life, we often get hit with curve balls. We can suffer from lows and rejoice in the highs. There are elements of the game we can control and others that we just have to be present for and ride out for a while. I believe in a collaborative and strengths-based approach to therapy because no one knows you better than yourself. My goal is to empower each client to draw on their strengths in order to navigate through the challenges one may face in the game of life. I strive to foster a holistic environment in an effort to see challenges from all angles. Often, what affects us “off the field” translates to the work we do on it.
