One of my favorite quotes, “Change your thoughts and you can change your world” by Norman Vincent Peale, really inspires me to help clients realize hope for the future. The change comes from you, and we can start that process within the therapy room. Each person is unique in their own way, and because of this, they may need a unique approach to therapy. I look at the therapeutic relationship as a team: we can collaborate together to work on any issues that may be troublesome. You are the expert on your life, and I am here to help you navigate that life by providing a non-judgmental space, helping you to create change from within. I view therapy through a person-centered lens while using interventions pulled from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), EMDR, and solution-focused therapy (SFBT). Another big part of my practice is using Art Therapy to encourage clients to feel comfortable and able to express themselves on many levels. I believe that everyone is unique and holds their own wisdom, and that is a good thing. We all have different walks of life that we can share with others and have others share with us. With this said, I believe in creating a mutual relationship of compassion and learning with clients. Therapy should be non-judgmental and understanding of others’ differences while appreciating and empowering one another. I understand that everyone’s experience is unique, and so I meet clients where they are at. I believe in providing an open mind and a comfortable place for clients to be themselves as we work together to meet their goals. As we create a therapeutic relationship, I will work to help end the cycle of negative feelings by providing the space to open up about the deeper parts of life that bring these emotions to the surface. I will utilize the tools I have to promote a new frame of mind and coping strategies that fit the client’s needs. Engaging in therapy can feel very vulnerable. Being open with someone new can be tough, but know that you are not alone. I’ll maintain the same openness that I want for my clients and make it a priority to keep a comfortable space so we can be present in the moment. Everyone deserves the space to be who they are, process their feelings, and work on what they need. My goal is to be the support system in this journey!

Greetings! My goal is to provide a safe, nurturing style of therapy. The most important predictor of success in therapy is the relationship between therapist and client. My name is Jayla Caver, I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I received my MSW from Wayne State Michigan. I have worked with various populations and have a diverse background including people with trauma, low self esteem, depression, anxiety, grief and loss and relationship problems. I work with children, adolescents, and young adults. I am an MSU grad myself, and currently have both present and former clients who are students at State. I am offering short-term crises-type services at no charge to students affected by the recent tragic events on campus. Since I also have a busy practice in Novi, which is about an hour away from MSU, I would need to hold our sessions virtually. At the University of San Francisco, I earned my Master's in Counseling Psychology with a focus on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Marriage and Family Therapy.
