CURRENTLY ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS Hi, I am Marissa Robinson! Therapy at Be You is humanistic & collaborative. This practice celebrates individuality. Our approach to therapy is humanistic, interpersonal, trauma-informed, and evidence-based, with an emphasis on the importance of a safe and open therapeutic relationship. We specialize with working with young adults who are going through life/ career transitions, relationship stress, anxiety, sexuality/ intimacy issues, self-esteem issues, depression, as well as wellness & self-care. We support our clients in identifying and attaining their full potential. In our work, we help my clients identify the issue, process what is going on, build on resources to slow down their mind & body, and transform relationships and routines to improve your daily life and how you feel within it. We aim for you to leave sessions feeling empowered, connected, and confident.

TriBeCa Therapy is a center for psychotherapy that was founded on the assumption that human beings are original, imaginative, inspired, and inventive. We particularly love our work with young adults and college students and are connected to issues they deal with. Issues related to sex and dating, drugs and drinking, depression and anxiety and academic pressures aren’t topics that will freak us out. We can handle it. College students frequently discuss with us challenges such as: making friends in ways that don’t involve alcohol, making friends as a person of color, navigating social situations that demand connecting with strangers (like in the cafeteria) and finding “their people.” We work to create a partnership that takes these challenges on together, trying new strategies, taking increasingly bigger risks and dealing with the disappointments and celebrating the successes that follow. College is a time when many young adults are dealing with very adults issues like sex, sexual assault, eating disorders, substance abuse, managing money, race, class, and career choices. Creating a space where young adults feel comfortable talking about these issues is a strength of our therapists and a non-judgmental stance is key. The object isn’t to insist on a particular set of values or practices, but to support young people to understand what they are dealing with and to make active choices about who they want to be. Learn more about us by visiting our website https://tribecatherapy.com or emailing us at inquiries@tribecatherapy.com to schedule a consultation call.

I work with clients on a wide range of issues including anxiety and depression, relational trauma, addiction and co-dependency, attachment, grief, body image, and relationship issues. I prioritize creating a safe and warm therapeutic environment that increases your self-awareness, self-compassion, and connection to your internal wisdom. By working collaboratively together, we can create a tailored approach to address the specific issues that you are currently struggling with. I have experience working with the LGBTQ+ population and trauma survivors (physical, sexual, neglect). I provide integrative treatment approaches that draw from trauma-informed care, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), mindfulness-based psychotherapy, and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy.

I am dedicated to providing a safe, empathetic space that encourages vulnerable expression. Together, we can unpack your history and develop a better understanding of your life, which sets the foundation for growth and transformation. Are you feeling lost, stuck, confused, unmotivated, or inhibited in some way? Do you have difficulty coping with stress, anxiety, or negative thoughts? Do you want to explore your past, inner world, and relationship patterns? You may want to change your life, but you're not sure how or what to change. Perhaps you feel like you're not living in alignment with who you really are, or that there's something blocking you from reaching your potential. You may have trouble managing your emotions, thoughts, or relationships. You may want a place to unpack your history and develop a better understanding of yourself. If you relate to any of the feelings above, I can help. When we begin work together, we are going on a journey to discover more about what you already know, and what may be hidden beneath the surface. My practice is a space to explore your whole self: thoughts, emotions, desires, past & present, love & hatred, happiness & pain... With this new awareness, you can begin to change.

Hey, glad you're here! Being a student is not just about education, is it? We've got lives outside of school, and all those moving parts can get us feeling overwhelmed, going a million miles per hour all the time, burnt out, lost, unmotivated, or even just numb. I work best with clients who are open to feedback, stay consistent in their care, and stay curious to explore different perspectives of their narrative. AKA, all I ask is that you show up to this space that I will prepare for you in which you can be totally you. Without the filters, photoshop, and all the overthinking of what the "right" thing to say is. You don't have to hold onto everything you're going through alone. Let's speak it out and game plan together on a weekly basis. If you feel like you don't even have the language to describe your experience, that's okay! We can build from the ground up. Maybe it'll help to think of it like this: I'm offering therapy like a key to a secret room that no one else has access to but you and I. You can learn and master skills in our therapeutic space, and it won't impact the real world at all because what happens and is heard in here, stays in here. That could look like role-playing a confrontational discussion you might've been avoiding with your roommate or just even saying an insecurity out loud for the first time and reality-checking it. It also just might be practicing how to say 'No' to different people in your life and finally setting boundaries that actually serve you. Then, when you're ready, you take those skills into the real world, and we watch your life change, perhaps slowly, but surely. Therapist shopping can definitely be overwhelming, so I invite you to get to know me through a 10-minute consultation through Zoom. I'll answer any questions, we'll be able to put a face and voice to the name, and you can feel out the overall vibe!

My clients typically seek out my help when they are struggling with one or more of the following symptoms: depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, social anxiety, relationship issues, life/goal uncertainties, unwanted compulsions and/or desires, negative and pessimistic thinking, procrastination, internet overuse, among others. My clients are often trauma survivors or adult children of parents who were emotionally and/or verbally abusive to them. My clients are often easily triggered by relationships, authority, responsibility, deadlines, confrontation, interpersonal conflict, decisions, major life transitions such as getting married, having a baby, breaking off a relationship, or starting and/or changing careers. My clients are typically helped by me in therapy through proven techniques that enable them to gain insight into themselves, to develop clarity into some of the reasons why they are feeling these ways, to learn more effective coping skills and strategies, and to experience authentic emotional healing and co-regulation through the warm, supportive, compassionate, validating, and empathetic intervention of a trusted "other." My clients experience healing and growth in treatment with me because of the trusting environment which is developed. They experience being truly seen and known which promotes more positive and optimistic feelings, and they are given the opportunity to see things more realistically, and can finally feel more at ease with themselves and with the world around them.

Welcome! I am a clinical psychologist and drama therapist, seeing individuals and couples in New York. I work with adults and teens ages 15+. Clients I work with are often seeking to reduce distress, trust themselves more, and feel more equipped in their life journeys. A primary aim of treatment is to increase self-awareness and connection to the body, freeing a more expansive self, and allowing old patterns and obstacles (i.e. emotional avoidance, self-criticism) to melt away. Therapy can help reveal how your past is impacting your present, which often leads to self-compassion, and healing and change in the present. Perhaps you are wanting to feel more comfortable with the unknown, whether that be challenging emotions, uncertainty about the future, or existential questions, like what is the meaning of my one precious life? We are living through uncertain times collectively and individually, and therapy with me is a space where these questions are welcomed. I believe the therapeutic relationship is at the heart of healing, and I show up in the room with warmth and authenticity. My approach is integrative. I have advanced training in an attachment-based psychodynamic approach called Interpersonal Reconstructive Therapy, and in experiential, creative, somatic-based approaches including drama therapy and internal family systems. I also practice mindfulness and am an artist myself, and this informs the work I do. My approach is person-centered, which means I adapt treatment based on the unique individual(s) I am sitting with. I have extensive experience in working with LGBTQ+ clients, those with a history of trauma, folks navigating illness, and other healers and artists. I am part of Mount Sinai Health Partners, and remain involved in training of doctoral trainees at Mount Sinai. I am presently on the faculty of the NYU Masters in Drama Therapy program, and was previously an Assistant Professor in the Psychiatry Department at Mount Sinai. I have worked and trained in hospitals, including in adult and adolescent transgender healthcare, in outpatient centers, Veterans hospitals, and counseling centers.

I work with my clients on exploring underlying patterns, unresolved conflicts, and deep-seated emotional concerns that have been causing distress in their relationships with themselves and others. With authenticity and compassion, I work collaboratively with my clients through relationship and attachment issues, depression, anxiety, self-doubt, shame, loneliness, and childhood trauma, toward greater clarity and fulfillment. I foster a thoughtful space for navigating life transitions, complex family dynamics, questions of identity and purpose, as well as overall feelings of being stuck or lost. I understand that trust takes time and care to develop. Together, we’ll cultivate a relationship in which you can come to feel safe and free to express what’s troubling you. I’ll help you make better sense of what you’ve been struggling with and why, and support you in tuning into and working toward what well-being might look and feel like for you. Talking together with honesty and curiosity can deepen your understanding of yourself and your experiences and build resilience, which both support authentic, lasting growth. As this process unfolds, it can help you make changes that foster a more integrated sense of self, greater connection in relationships, and a stronger sense of meaning in life. We work in the evolving tradition of contemporary psychoanalysis, with a relational focus and deep respect for the soci-cultural and political complexities we face as individuals and collectively. We respect the deep nature of many emotional issues and their interpersonal origin in real life, often traumatic, developmental experiences. We seek to understand your unique developmental needs and how they may have been neglected, hijacked or violated by important figures in your life, as well as social institutions on whom you relied. Therapy - whether individual, couples' or group - is a process of understanding, healing and growing beyond these deep wounds and over-accommodations, freeing you for the emergence of a life that is more authentically your own. Therapy is best done through an open, intimate relationship with a professional dedicated to understanding your unique pain, who recognizes your needs for safety and emotional validation, and creates the space for the emergence of greater self-expression, agency and growth, allowing you to be more fully engaged and alive to yourself and to others. More in control of shaping your identity and destiny. As a group of clinicians we are deeply familiar with the struggles of launching oneself into adulthood. Please visit our website to see a description of our therapists, their work and how to contact them individually to set up a therapeutic relationship.
