Therapists for college students near New York, NY
I work collaboratively with students who face a variety of challenges, including life transitions, relationship issues, and navigating queer identities. College and graduate school typically occur at pivotal developmental points for people in terms of figuring out who they are, what they want, and separating/individuating from parental figures. Together, we will work to understand your inner life, what works and what doesn't in terms of your thinking, behavior and ways of relating to others. Often, patterns develop that help us stay safe and secure when we're young, but would benefit from re-examination and modification to live a more fulfilling adult life. I have a sub-specialty working with people with Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD), a highly distressing fixation on a perceived appearance defect that can impact daily functioning and quality of life. I help you understand where the appearance fixation originated, including negative self appraisals and rituals/compulsions that accompany BDD. Learning to face feared and avoided situations is a gradual process that takes place over time, freeing you from the hold of BDD and leading to improved functioning and a more satisfying life.

Therapy with me is a collaborative process where we will work together to understand and address your needs. Through humor and vulnerability, we’ll co-create a judgment-free space for your authentic self to flourish. I utilize a mindfulness-based and relational approach to support clients in creating positive change in their lives. I have successfully supported sexually and gender diverse folx, older folx, neurodivergent folx, and poly/ENM folx dealing with issues of identity, shame, body image, trauma, and interpersonal conflict issues. I approach therapy with an anti-oppressive lens, assisting folx with unlearning internalized messages and thought patterns that prevent growth. I am excited to empower and support you in your journey of self-discovery!

In our first session, I will establish a therapeutic working relationship with you and ask you what brings you in to counseling. If you think we might be a good fit, please reach out! I am part of the Path referral network, which means that when you reach out, my team will get back to you quickly to schedule our first session. I am committed to making therapy affordable. I believe that each of our stories are equally sacred as they are unique and see therapy as an opportunity to cultivate curiosity for ourselves, let go of self-judgement, and create meaningful change. I utilize an embodied approach rooted in Gestalt Therapy and don't shy away from bringing humor, play and creativity to the therapeutic process. Though my experience ranges across many areas, I gravitate towards helping clients work through Inner Child Healing, codependency, perfectionism, relational trauma, multicultural identity and relationship issues. I also work with couples seeking to deepen intimacy, trust and communication.
As a therapist I work primarily from a Queer Feminist perspective with a focus on strategies to sustain balance and mental health within ongoing systems of oppression.
