Therapists for college students near New York, NY
My approach to therapy is rooted in anti-oppression principles. I have specialized training in trauma practice, particularly around experiences of abuse, violence, and intergenerational trauma. I draw from a variety of therapeutic techniques, including psychodynamic therapy, Internal Family Systems/parts work, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), and other relational approaches. My approach is collaborative and flexible, meaning that clients and I talk through the styles and tools we can use to best fit what they would like to work through. Much of my experience is working with people of color and queer and trans/GNC communities. My approach is warm, curious, and collaborative, fostering individuals’ ability to build resilience, joy, and power. In my practice, I welcome my clients to process things of all sizes (their traumas and their milder annoyances), explore their identities and experiences, and express a wide range of emotions. You can expect direct communication from me, reflections of what I notice about your patterns and processes, questions to deepen both of our understandings of yourself, and invitations for mutual feedback. I value autonomy and will never pressure you to share things you aren't ready to share, or simply do not want to share.

Therapy can help you feel less alone, understand yourself more clearly, and make choices that feel more like your own.

Her philosophy is that therapy is a collaborative place for finding support in healing, developing self-awareness and working towards your goals. She utilizes an eclectic approach drawing from psychodynamic, person-centered, and cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). Therapy is a collaborative process providing an opportunity to bring awareness to how past experiences are affecting current struggles. I will provide a safe space for you to feel emotionally supported while also helping you challenge unhelpful patterns in order work towards change.
I chose social work because I believe in helping the whole person. I recognize that we are all shaped by the environments and systems we live in, and I use this broader perspective in our work together. I specialize in adolescent, and emerging adult mental health, I have 6 years of experience supporting children, teens, and families across various settings, including schools and home-based services. Adolescence and emerging adulthood are periods of intense change, and my priority is offering a safe, non-judgmental space where young people can feel heard and truly understood. My therapeutic style is grounded in strength-based approaches and trauma-informed care. We might explore things using psychodynamic ideas to understand patterns, read and discuss books, music, and poetry through Bibliotherapy, or just have an open, honest talk therapy session. My approach is always about meeting people exactly where they are.
I have done psychotherapy with graduate students, especially around relationship, bereavement (particularly early parental loss), anxiety and fertility issues for over twenty years. I believe that most emotional pain stems from both difficult life circumstances and how we perceive those events. I work in an open, warm and empathically challenging way to help people better explore, understand and wrestle with the issues that are keeping them from finding more peace, joy, freedom and fulfillment.

My clients are insightful, motivated individuals struggling with codependency, dissociation, or the lasting effects of childhood trauma. I am an Asian American therapist with over 10 years of experience working with undergraduate and graduate students, traditional and non-traditional. My aim as a therapist is to offer my clients a space where they can take the time from their otherwise hectic schedules to pause and be curious about their feelings, behaviors, and reactions. Often we can feel like we are moving from one task to another and before long, we lose touch with why we started on the path we are on in the first place. In therapy, one can reconnect with the parts of themselves needed to feel balanced and thrive. I also strongly believe that the relationship between therapist and client is key for one to be able to explore, reflect, and ultimately heal. As such, I prioritize in creating a safe, supportive space where we may work together to better understand your unique experiences.
