Therapists for college students near Portland State University
I provide empathetic, personalized support to college students who are working to adjust to a college environment, managing new and difficult social situations, or working on themselves and discovering their identity now that they are away from home. My approach tends to be more casual and less clinical. I'm excited to help students explore any new and challenging areas they are facing in college.
Hi and welcome to Story Unfolding LLC. I believe therapy to be a dynamic process which can facilitate a greater understanding of self and others while providing gentle direction in shifting long standing beliefs, patterns, and behaviors. We all have stories of our lives we recite to ourselves and others; some of these stories are ones which build us up while others are ones which hold us hostage. We also all have histories in these stories; histories of identities we hold, labels we were given, trauma we experienced, circumstances we can never understand, behaviors we are not proud of, and the list goes on. I will work alongside you to identify what these are, the history/context in these, and how to re-construct the stories which support your ability to respond to difficult emotions, to improve relationships, to care for self, to feel joy, and to have greater resiliency. I am thankful you’re here exploring your options of a different and better path forward; I look forward to hearing from you!
My work integrates contemplative, relational, depth, mindfulness-based, and somatic (body-oriented) approaches to healing and growth. My practice is most influenced by Somatic Experiencing (SE), a naturalistic and interdisciplinary approach to healing I would be delighted to tell you more about. If you are looking for support in your healing journey, want to restore balance to your nervous system, emotions and relationships, and if a somatic approach is something you are curious about, I encourage you to jump onto my website, inner room (dot) net, and use my Online Booking system to schedule a free initial consultation.
My ideal client is motivated to improve their quality of life and may struggle with depression, anxiety, self-esteem, and grief/trauma related issues. They are interested in understanding themselves and cultivating healthy coping strategies to deal with the challenges of our modern world, with the ultimate goal of thriving, not just surviving. They understand that we all have the opportunity to continue growing and want to live a more self-expressed life by identifying and challenging negative and self-limiting thinking patterns. I compassionately support and validate my clients, while also encouraging them to take on the challenges in their life. I have significant experience with mindfulness practices and believe in the power of creativity (writing, music, art) as a therapeutic tool. Most people are settling for less than what their lives can possibly be. I am committed to helping you lead a self-expressed life and to help you see all the ways that you are a gift to yourself and others. I do not have all the answers, but I believe that together we can inspire each other and produce breakthroughs you may not think are possible.

I believe each of us has a capacity to grow and heal and that the therapeutic relationship provides a context for those processes. I strive to meet each client where they are and I believe that engaging with counseling is itself a step towards healing.
In my 30 years of personal and professional development, I have created a unique approach to bring hope and strength, healing and transformation. It is my honor and joy to provide and hold a safe space as we work on healing relationship with self, others and the world. Other key components to healing are acceptance, trust, forgiveness and gratitude. I specialize in helping adults heal from trauma, manage anxiety, and break free from cycles of perfectionism, self-criticism, and chronic stress. I am particularly drawn to working with women, LGBTQIA2S+ individuals, and healthcare professionals navigating burnout, identity stress, compassion fatigue, and the long-term impact of always having to be “on.” As a queer, neurodivergent therapist, I understand how important it is to have a space where you don’t need to translate your experience, justify your reactions, or perform stability in order to be met with care. My approach is trauma-informed, affirming, and collaborative, drawing primarily from EMDR and ACT.

Hello. Sometimes we can be dealt a lot of blows or disappointments in life and it's tough slogging though it alone. I welcome working with those who are facing transitions or relationship difficulties, have depression and/or anxiety, among other life issues. Find Your Balance. Discover Your Voice. Be a work in progress. College can be exciting—but also overwhelming. Whether you’re navigating new independence, academic pressure, relationship changes, or figuring out who you want to be in the world, therapy can give you the tools and space to grow. I’m a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker with over a decade of experience helping people make sense of their inner world. My approach blends logic and curiosity (thanks to my background in Philosophy) with a deep respect for how our emotions, body, and even the unconscious shape our daily lives. You might find us exploring your thoughts through Socratic dialogue, diving into dreamwork, connecting with symbols and stories like The Hero’s Journey, or looking at how your brain makes decisions from a neuro-economics perspective. If you’re ready to explore not just *what* you’re feeling, but *why*, and learn how to bring your hidden patterns into the light, I’ll walk alongside you—helping you meet yourself with more clarity, compassion, and confidence.
Wanting to implement change in your life or relationships can feel challenging and overwhelming. Acknowledging that we are in a place where talking to a therapist seems helpful is an act of courage and also provides some relief that we are taking steps to help ourselves with the difficulties that arise in life. I believe we all story our lives against the backdrop of our personal discourse, family discourse, and societal discourse. Some of the stories we identify with have been beneficial yet others have been less helpful or even hinder us to reach the happiness and contentment we seek.
Life can feel overwhelming. If you’re struggling with stress, emotional pain, or the weight of past experiences, I want you to know that there is hope—and you don’t have to face it alone. I’m here to help you discover the tools, strategies, and perspectives that can make a difference in your life and relationships. Meaningful change is possible. Therapy is a journey, and I walk alongside you with empathy, curiosity, and a deep respect for your unique experience. Together, we’ll explore practical steps for lasting change, and you’ll gain clarity on how to move forward.

I believe that a trusting relationship with you is of the utmost importance. During our time together I will work to create an atmosphere of warmth and acceptance so you feel free sharing and exploring whatever is troubling you. My approach is a trauma-informed and culturally-sensitive integration of attachment theory, psychodynamic therapy, and cognitive therapy which emphasizes (1) trusting the client as an expert of their own reality, (2) exploring the patterns through which we come to understand ourselves, others, and the world, and (3) seeking meaningful emotional experiences in a safe therapeutic relationship. I will work to build a supportive, trusting, and safe relationship with you so you can bravely identify and confront the challenges you're facing. Counseling can seem like a daunting task to take on, but it also be incredibly rewarding and life-changing. If this sounds like a journey you would like to begin, then please contact me!
