🌟 Embodied Hope For Your Journey to Healing and Growth 🌟 Dealing with trauma can be really tough, whether it's from a specific event or something that's been with you for a long time. It can affect so many parts of your life, from your mental health to your relationships to your sleep. Doing it all while keeping up with classes? That's exhausting. It helps to have someone who knows trauma work and can support you while you gauge how to pace your healing process. I provide therapy for many different types of trauma: emotional neglect, abuse, combat, complex PTSD, intimate partner violence, sexual assault/harassment, bullying, accidents, medical illness, pregnancy/birth, and toxic relationships. I'm experienced in gold standard therapies for trauma, nightmares, insomnia, anxiety, and OCD. It's important to me to help people to understand and work with - not in spite of - their nervous system. I've been through a lot of different experiences in my career, working in hospital and outpatient settings. Real progress comes from having a place where our nervous system can gradually rebuild a sense of safety, grow in flexibility, and practice new learning. My goal is to make therapy that kind of a place. I believe in using therapy strategies that are proven to be effective, but that doesn't mean sessions have to be rigid or boring. Depending on the client, I'll pull in painting, novels and movies, music, Minecraft, sports, and comedians. I'm also always learning and growing as a therapist to make sure you're getting the best care possible. Although therapy progress isn't always a straight line, learning new skills and ways of thinking almost always has ups and downs. That's completely normal. It's totally understandable if you wish you could feel better right away. I'll do my best to create a fluid plan, tailored just for you, to help you head in that direction. You don't have to be alone. Someone I value once told me that sometimes we carry hope for others until they're ready to pick it back up themselves. Let me know if you'd like to talk about what that might look like for you to be ready to carry your own hope again.

Open Space Counseling, Consulting & Wellness is a LGBTQIA+, racial and relationship minority affirming practice. Our mission is to eliminate fear of judgement as a barrier to personal growth. You’re likely here because your life isn’t quite where you’d like it to be. You’re struggling with relationships, or finding yourself reliving old patterns that are causing you pain. You’re sick of feeling so isolated, depressed, disconnected, and frustrated when everyone else on Instagram seems so much happier and more successful. Maybe you’ve been trying to solve these problems on your own for a long time, yet still feeling stuck in the same old rut. You might be contemplating a big transition. You might really need space to talk through all the jumbled up thoughts and feelings inside. Maybe it'd be helpful to share the self-critical thoughts ("I am broken;" "I'm a failure;" "I have nothing to offer;" "I can't change;" "If I make changes, everyone will hate me"), so that we can look at them together, and notice that they aren't you. I am experienced in providing supportive counseling to folks across the lifespan, in and around the gender binary, and at all stages of “acuity.” In light of my experience, I am a staunch believer in the philosophy that all people have the resources inside themselves to make changes toward becoming ever more healthy, connected, and complex. The focus of my approach is self-acceptance. This means that I'm not going to push you to talk about things you're not ready to talk about yet, or offer much in the way of advice or homework. Instead, we'll make space for you to examine your process toward making the changes you want for your life. I am a gender affirming therapist specializing in trans and nonbinary wellness. Since 2013, I have co-authored several letters of recommendation for medical gender confirmation, and am familiar with that process. I also know that many people aren’t seeking physical changes as a part of their journey. In 2021, I obtained WPATH certification, which rewards those committed to staying on top of both the current evidence and consensus in the field through continuing education. It is the gold standard of trans-specific healthcare certification.
I offer afternoon, evening and Saturday morning availability both virtually and in-person in Mt. Lebanon, PA. I am honored to work with individuals in the areas of addiction, mood, and personality. I am Certified in Somatic Trauma Therapy and Gottman Institute trained for couples and others. I see clients ages 14 and up. I utilize gender affirming care, as I have served the LGBTQIA+ community directly.

I am an LGBTQ-competent therapist working with adolescents (16+), college students, and young adults who experience stress and worry, feel down or hopeless, who struggle to focus in school or employment, and/or who are exploring their gender and sexual identities. I empower my patients to identify their own goals and intentions in therapy that support their values. Some examples include: improving ability to cope with anxiety; learning to set and communicate boundaries; managing difficult emotions; and creating structure and habits that optimize success in school or employment. I use evidenced-based methods including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy-informed skills, Motivational Interviewing, and mindfulness-based interventions. I will invite your feedback on which interventions you find most helpful and adapt sessions accordingly. Engaging in therapy, especially as a young person, takes great bravery and vulnerability. I hope to provide a welcoming and calming environment to support you through meeting your goals. I see patients virtually and in person.
We provide confidential therapy for individuals, couples, or families from the privacy of your home. As effective as in-person but without the commute. Allowing us to provide a greater range of services to those seeking help throughout NJ and PA. Confused about insurance? You're not the only one. We can help explain everything to you. We have two very skilled clinicians currently. You can read about Ray and Pam's specialties on the website.
Your struggles are unique and complex. As a psychologist my aim is to help you explore your personal narratives, to understand how your past is affecting your present and keeping you from fulfilling your values. I take a pragmatic and eclectic approach by integrating psychodynamic theories with evidence-based tools. I draw on treatments ranging from CBT, ACT, and CPT, tailoring treatment to your unique needs and experiences. Wherever you are, Journey to Healing Counseling Associates, promises to meet you where you're at. Seeking help isn't easy, so I commend you for taking the first step. My counseling style is warm, gentle, and non-judgmental. Be heard. Be seen. Be valued.
I work with individuals 18 years old and above who are struggling with depression or anxiety. I can support you to change behaviors to feel better, change patterns of thinking to improve your feelings, develop closer and more satisfying relationships, and much more. I use approaches that have been shown to be effective such as Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. As a professor at the University of Pittsburgh, I conducted research specific to the mental health of teenagers. I also have extensive experience working with LGBT individuals. Our first meeting would be a chance for me to really understand why you want therapy, for us to develop goals together (Note: My clients often begin developing goals by thinking about "If we are successful working together in therapy, how would you and your life be different?"), and for you to determine if therapy with me is a "good fit."
At some point, you may find yourself in need of a little extra support. Maybe someone non-judgmental to listen to you and to hear what you have to say. Perhaps you need a safe space to process something with a therapist who can help you find your own answers. If you are feeling out of control or if you are struggling with life’s challenges, seeking help is an excellent way to start the process of healing. Together, however, we can work collaboratively to identify and reach your goals to create essential changes in your life. I have over twenty years’ experience working with individuals and families in trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression, addiction, illness, parenting, and much more. I am a licensed clinical social worker and have a certificate in working with military veterans and their families. I do not believe in “therapy in a can,” so your treatment is specific to you and your needs. Our approach to your journey is as diverse and individual as you. My role is to support, challenge, and guide you on your journey to reach your goals.

I offer a client centered approach to care, valuing honesty, compassion, and accountability. I believe that that the client/therapist relationship should be one that is based on mutual trust & respect, open & honest communication, and ability to work collaboratively on treatment goals. If you are thinking about taking that brave next step, I would love to meet you, and it would be an honor to embark on that journey with you! I offer a remote treatment experience for those that would prefer to remain in the comfort of their own home. You can expect our first session to be a laid-back conversation, where you can share with me only what you feel comfortable as we build trust.
