✨ College can be exciting—but also overwhelming. You’re figuring out who you are, building new relationships, and trying to keep up with classes, work, and everything else. But if you’re carrying the weight of family dysfunction, toxic friendships, anxiety, guilt, and lack self confidence, it can feel harder to focus on your future. Maybe you… Worry about a parent, sibling, or you're own addiction issues. Want to explore and get support for traumatic experiences. Struggling with toxic friendships. Feel drained by family drama. Wonder if you should distance yourself from your family but feel guilty for even thinking about it. Worry you’ll ruin a good relationship because of past experiences. Find yourself people-pleasing, overthinking, or struggling to set boundaries. Feel like the “black sheep” who got away—and carry guilt because of it. If any of this feels familiar, you don’t have to handle it alone. 👩⚕️ I’m a therapist who specializes in helping students and young adults break free from unhealthy patterns, heal from family dysfunction, and build confidence in who they are and what they want. 💛 You deserve to feel secure, supported, and in control of your own story. I'm here for you. Schedule a FREE 15-minute consultation today. *I am a specialized relationships therapist, so I do not take insurance but we might be able to file for reimbursement from your insurance company. People often seek therapy to resolve past experiences and life complexities and the decision to enter therapy may carry feelings of ambivalence and uncertainty. I believe that therapy is most effective when persons are offered an environment that is inviting, collaborative, affirming, and safe. Subsequently, my goal is to provide a challenging, but non-judgmental and encouraging atmosphere for persons to explore concerns and difficulties as a means of achieving desired change. I have been trained in psychodynamic and gestalt therapy and trauma and attachment theory and I integrate these theoretical constructs to understand the uniqueness of each person. Further, I include harm reduction, cultural, strengths perspective, and social justice lenses to recognize each person's lived experience. In end, I have an extensive history working with persons of queer and trans/GNC experience and specific interest in working with complex trauma, substance misuse and addiction, attachment, and grief/loss. I offer an informed perspective when working with persons in polyamorous relationships and/or the kink community.
I'm excited you're here! Therapeutic relationships can be an incredibly powerful resource for accessing your truth, increasing self-love, and healing through connection. My aim as a therapist is to foster a safe, nonjudgmental space that supports clients in divesting from narratives of self-pathology, rewriting their stories in empowering ways, and in feeling more grounded and more joyful in their daily lives. My practice is rooted in a social justice frame and a belief that symptoms are most often related to the trauma of lived experiences of oppression and discrimination, not due to internal failing. I work with clients who need help managing anxiety, exploring identity, managing life transitions, managing symptoms of trauma, and undoing internalized white supremacy. I offer a politicized lens and believe in the connection between relational healing and collective liberation. I intend for therapy to be an affirming, healing and celebratory space. For those pursuing gender affirming surgeries or HRT, I'm happy to provide letters for your insurance/surgeon. I identify as White, queer, trans, nonbinary, fat, and neurodiverse (ADHD). As of August 2025, I have availability for virtual clients. Please feel free to reach out - I’d love to chat about potentially working together!
Many of the students and young adults we work best with are in the middle of a transition. They may have just moved away from home, started college or graduate school, begun a new job, or are trying to figure out who they are outside of their family. On the outside, it can look like they’re “doing fine.” On the inside, they often feel anxious, overwhelmed, uncertain, or afraid of making the wrong choices. You might relate if you’re struggling with independence — wanting space from your family but also feeling pulled back by guilt or expectations. Maybe you worry about the future, question your decisions constantly, or feel behind compared to everyone else. “Adulting” can feel harder than anyone warned you about. If you’re navigating identity, relationships, pressure to succeed, or fear of what comes next, you’re not alone. We work well with students who are thoughtful, self-aware, and ready to better understand themselves — even if they’re not sure where to start.

Anxiety is a whole-body experience: your heart races, you feel sick to your stomach, and as hard as you might try, you can't shut off the worry thoughts. You feel disconnected from yourself and the people and things you love. You want relief from the pain, and you also want to understand why you seem to feel things more intensely than others. You'd like to life a life where anxiety and self doubt no longer hold you back, where you can overcome creative and motivational blocks and learn how to better manage "big" emotions that sometimes seem to sweep you away. You want to feel heard, seen and understood. You're not alone and there is a way out of the pain. I use compassion, humor and harnessing the power of our minds and bodies to help you make powerful and lasting shifts in how you perceive yourself and how you interact with the world. I incorporate somatic and nonverbal modalities such as yoga, music therapy and EMDR. Finding the right therapist to journey alongside you is the first step toward uncovering your strengths and building the necessary skills for navigating the uncertainties and challenges of being human. As a Board-certified M.D. psychiatrist, she specializes in providing psychiatric diagnostic assessments and treatment recommendations for anxiety, depression, OCD and bipolar disorder. Dr. Apraku also gives guidance for mental health concerns related to life transitions, mood swings, anger and traumatic events. As a holistic provider, her focus is on medication management (including for patients wishing to decrease reliance on medication) in combination with extensive psycho-education and referral to a trusted therapist where appropriate. She has a particular interest in treating young adults with non-traditional backgrounds, including racial minorities. Through secure video, Dr. Apraku can treat anyone located in state.
