Therapists for college students near Rice University
Hello and welcome. I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor with a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Lubbock, Texas. I have extensive training in trauma and support adolescents, adults, and seniors navigating a wide range of emotional and mental health concerns. I strive to create a space where you feel safe, respected, and genuinely understood. Whether you are working through anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, life transitions, relationship challenges, or simply feeling stuck, my goal is to walk alongside you with compassion and care. Reaching out for support can feel like a big step, but you do not have to take it alone. I would be honored to support you as you begin your journey toward healing, growth, and wellness.
The goal is to feel seen, heard, empowered, and equipped to take on life's many challenges. The primary populations with which I have worked since 2006 are children, teenagers, and families who have been impacted by abuse and trauma providing advocacy, crisis intervention, and brief targeted interventions. I take a person centered and solution focused approach to therapy. You are the leader in the process, and I am here as a support and resource. You can book me by clicking on my website.
Are you feeling stuck in anxiety, low mood, or a season of life that no longer fits who you are becoming? Maybe you are navigating depression, grief, or a major life transition and finding that your usual coping skills are no longer enough. Many adults and families reach a point where stress, mood changes, or emotional pain begin to interfere with relationships, work, or daily functioning. If you are seeking clarity, stability, or a sense of direction, you are not alone. Therapy can be a space to slow down, make sense of what you are experiencing, and reconnect with your strengths. I find joy in the journey of self discovery. I have experience with 12 step programs, and I am trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I also have considerable life experience to assist people who are struggling with life transitions. Reaching out and stepping into change can be very challenging, and it’s the first step towards personal discovery and lasting change and recovery.

Life can sometimes throw us into situations that seem impossible to handle. Whether it’s personal relationships, work, or financial issues, it can feel like everything is falling apart. You feel inadequate and powerless as a result, like you can't manage everything on your own. Additionally, you may feel isolated and misunderstood, experiencing shame and self-blame for circumstances beyond your control. It could be a past experience that troubles you, or a current situation that is overwhelming and unmanageable.
Ever feel like you're always just "catching up" or you're on the "outside" looking in? As an Autistic professional, I love assisting other neurodivergent individuals in navigating a neurotypical world. I offer a judgement-free, solution-oriented space where authenticity is the only agenda and an "eyes wide open" approach that uses precision and depth to uncover what’s hidden. I serve adult clients who may be experiencing identity and worldview transitions, shame and perfectionism, anxiety, as well as grief and depression. My specialty is helping clients succeed in their search for self-trust and direction. Life is a story full of unexpected twists and chapter breaks. It can be easy to lose the plot along the way. I primarily utilize Existential Psychotherapy with aspects of SFBT, emphasizing elements such as meaning-making, authenticity, and personal agency. This makes my approach highly adaptive to your specific journey. I graduated from Texas Woman's University with my master's degree in Counseling and Development and am licensed in the state of Texas as a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate under the supervision of Billie Baker, LPC-S, and Dr. James Parker, LP. I offer in-person and teletherapy sessions with Dallas Therapy Associates.

Does it ever feel like life is just happening to you? Do you struggle to see where your anxiety ends and you begin? If you're feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected from yourself, you're not alone! It's brutal out here. Therapy can be a space to slow down, get curious, and begin to untangle the patterns that are keeping you in survival mode. I'm Mackenzie, and I work with teens and adults navigating anxiety, relationship issues, identity exploration, and trauma-processing. Together, we'll work to build awareness, deepen self-trust, and move toward a more intentional, connected life. I know what it means to feel outside the norm. As a queer therapist, I hold space for those who’ve been made to feel different, unseen, or unwelcome. I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and also like to incorporate aspects of IFS, mindfulness, self-compassion, and CBT into my work with you. I totally understand that starting therapy can be daunting. I'd love to chat more about what's going on and how we can work together to help you feel like yourself again. You're welcome to book directly with me through my website, or reach out to schedule a complimentary 15 minute consultation call!
ONLINE ONLY! In my view, psychotherapy serves different purposes at different stages of one's life. For young adults, one of the key tasks at hand is to discover their potential, talents, weaknesses, fears, wants and needs, and to manage relationships at various levels of emotional intimacy. In this process, many of us need to clarify past issues and unresolved conflicts to move forward more freely. My practice is informal, relaxed and friendly, and most of my clients come from multicultural and multiracial backgrounds, and I treasure diversity. I am comfortable working in English, Portuguese and Spanish languages.
Experiencing anxiety can feel overwhelming and you may find yourself avoiding people, places and things in an attempt to manage your symptoms. You may find that your world is getting smaller and smaller and may feel like you are in a constant cycle of anxiety and a mix of other painful emotions. I would like to help you change your relationship with anxiety. Through collaboration, you can learn skills to help you face and manage your anxiety symptoms, so that you can live the life that you want to live.
Anyone else tired of all of these “unprecedented” events stressing out their already stressful life? How can someone NOT feel anxious while balancing news, work/school, social life, family, chores, relationships and self-care? Life can be so overwhelming! But I can help with that! I may not be able to take away some of the stressors; but I can certainly help find the tools you need to manage the burden. I provide a safe, empathic and accepting space for anyone working through these feelings. I specialize in helping women and teens find healing and inner strength in order to find fulfillment in life's challenges and triumphs.
Most of the clients I work best with have one thing in common: they feel overwhelmed by the pressure to “have it all together,” especially around food, body image, and big life transitions. Many of them are students who look fine on the outside but are quietly struggling with anxiety, burnout, or feeling disconnected from their bodies. I often work with people who: Feel guilty or stressed about eating and don’t know how to break the cycle Overthink food choices or feel “out of control” around food Are adjusting to a big life change (moving away from home, starting college, pregnancy/postpartum, major stress) Carry a lot of self-criticism and feel exhausted from trying to meet everyone’s expectations Want a space where they can be honest without feeling judged or misunderstood My clients tend to be caring, hard-working, sensitive, and often the “strong one” in their friend group. They’re usually trying to balance school, relationships, and their own mental health—often without giving themselves the same compassion they give others. If that sounds familiar, you’re in the right place. My goal is to make therapy feel like a safe, steady place where you can slow down, understand what’s going on underneath the stress, and feel more connected to yourself again.

We are helping to serve those who are in crisis, or have been historically underserved, by eliminating the most significant treatment barriers: geographical and financial access. We work with nearly all commercial insurance nationwide and have no waitlist, thereby helping people access quality, evidence-based care regardless of insurance, location, or other barriers.
Welcome! Starting therapy is a big step. I understand how overwhelming it can be to experience anxiety, stress, or intrusive thoughts. It takes courage to seek help, and I am so glad you are here! Therapy is most effective when it is tailored to you and uses research-backed treatment. I use evidence-based methods, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP). These therapies are supported to alleviate symptoms and empower you to reclaim your life—returning to activities that anxiety may have previously taken you away from.
