Therapists for college students near University of Colorado Boulder
Sometimes, folx are concerned that their therapist is going to make them lie on a couch while they say nondescript and cryptic things like "hmmm" and "I see" and "how does that make you feel?" While I do ask the last question, I can promise that the therapy I provide is not that of the 1920s. I believe that you are the best expert on yourself and my role as your therapist is to help you uncover what you already know and put it into action. Reaching out to a therapist can be scary, but I hope you'll take that moment - perhaps after a few deep breaths - to give it a shot. You deserve the best care available to you from someone who gets it and truly enjoys the work that I do. I love my job and approach each session with an open mind and heart and a deep desire to walk alongside you as we meet your challenges together. I specialize in working with the LGBTQIA+ community (of which I am a part) as well as individuals and relationship partners who are navigating anxiety, sexuality, trauma, family conflict, and identity stress. After 10+ years of experience working in the field, I am uniquely qualified to understand many of the challenges and difficulties affiliated with finding balance and living authentically in this world.

You might be struggling in the most important relationships in your life, or trying to find a way out of feeling stagnant. Perhaps you have felt a pull to understand yourself more deeply. Through creating a safe and strong connection, we can be curious about these things together. In my graduate and post-graduate experience, I have primarily worked with individuals experiencing depression, anxiety, and trauma across a variety of settings. While I am mainly relationally focused, I have experience with psychoanalytic, psychodynamic, and behavioral approaches. By leaning towards authenticity, humor, and connection, I believe we can gain insight and create shifts in how we approach our life and our relationships. There's something different about you. Maybe you're figuring out what sexuality, gender, and romantic life can look like, or exploring polyamory or kink. Maybe you're a plural system. Or maybe your life has been changed by traumatic experiences. You may view the world through a neurotype or spiritual lens that doesn’t match the people around you. It might be really hard to trust people--to risk opening up about what you're dealing with. I get it. It’s hard to know who actually has your back. And trying to find the right counselor when you're already struggling with so much can feel impossible. That's where I come in. My job is to listen--to get to know you and help you shape your life into what *you* want it to be. As your therapist, I'll help you work toward the life you want, based on your specific situation and needs. I won't blame you, or try to change you in ways that you don't want, or force you to talk about things that are too hard. You might feel overwhelmed, but you've made it this far. You're taking steps toward feeling better--feeling okay. I know you're in pain, and I believe you're doing your best. But when things aren't working, you don't have to try to figure it all out alone. Send me an email, or a text, or a phone call. We can figure it out from here, together.
A need to always look put-together and strong can be destructive and exhausting. It seems like the harder you try, the harder it gets. The pressure to appear “all good” invalidates the emotions we all experience as human beings. Living in a culture of toxic positivity only reinforces the idea that negative thoughts and feelings are somehow inherently unhealthy. In therapy, outdated notions are challenged and you will not be invalidated for feeling…anything. Many of my clients have internalized beliefs about who they should and shouldn’t be- and most of these beliefs are false. Therapy is a non-judgmental space where you can truly express yourself without fear of being judged or shamed. Many of the clients I work with identify with being anxious, perfectionists who want better relationships. I also work with adults who know or think they may be on the autism spectrum. Overall, therapy can be great tool to get a better grip on life as well as for treating a specific diagnosis.. Whatever your background, your struggles, your ambitions, we will work together. Feeling better is within reach.

I am here to help. Feelings of sadness, stress, negative thoughts, and overwhelming struggles can sometimes be too difficult to fight on your own. Sometimes it takes someone else’s support for you to begin to make changes yourself. We can work together to support you in making your days great.
Need a place to explore your identity? Need support around microaggressions you have been experiencing? You may be in need of a non-judgmental healing space to process the daily stressors that come with holding oppressed identities. You deserve to feel empowered and supported. I am Black, non-binary, and queer. These identities inform my practice. I utilize a trauma-informed, social justice lens to look at client concerns in a wholistic manner taking into account systems of oppression, and experiences of trauma. I want my clients to see and value the strengths that they themselves hold.
My goal as a therapist is to create a supportive environment for folks to explore their gender and sexuality. Perhaps you identify as queer, bi, lesbian, gay, pan, ace, trans, nonbinary, agender, poly, kinky, something else, all of the above, or nothing at all. You deserve to have a space where you can learn more about your identity without judgment or pressure. As a queer person who has sought out therapy myself, I know how challenging it can be to find an affirming therapist. Even if your identity isn’t central to your therapy goals, I will always aim to honor and validate every part of who you are in our work. My therapeutic style is collaborative and anti-oppressive. My approach is integrative, using tools from a variety of therapeutic modalities—relational, CBT, narrative, sex therapy—that are best suited to each unique client. In addition to specializing in identity, I support clients experiencing depression, anxiety, OCD, trauma, and relationship issues. My aim is to co-create a space with you that facilitates growth, emotional awareness, and authentic self-expression. Please reach out if you have any questions about my work or about therapy more generally. I'm glad that you're seeking out the care you need right now, and I hope that we have the opportunity to connect more soon.
