What if you could learn to view difficult emotions as an opportunity for growth instead of a weakness? It’s true that suffering is universal, but with the right perspective you can learn to see that as a gift; a source of energy you can use to propel you towards your life’s goals and eventual contentment. Many seek to find happiness by changing their circumstances, but I hope to show you that accepting your current circumstances is the key to permanent change. My calling is to help you find peace and contentment, specializing in depression and anxiety, addiction, grief, existential concerns and parenting skills. I use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in my clinical practice, focusing primarily on being conscious of the thoughts that drive our behavior and accepting life’s circumstances. I will work at your pace, whether you are looking for shorter solution-focused therapy or serving as a longer-term support. I've had a tough time as a shy child in a military family, particularly because my circumstances were always changing around me. After years of managing social anxiety and depression, I learned to focus on my internal landscape instead of trying to control the world around me. I would love to share these skills with you to use on your own personal journey.

At MPTS, LLC, our mission is to create a strong relationship of trust with clients in a caring and judgement-free space, capitalizing on diverse experiences, specialties, and therapeutic strategies to meet the unique needs of the clients we serve. In so doing, we advance the following core values: • Multicultural Competence, Humility, and Sensitivity We recognize the importance of culture in informing our identities and our unique lived experiences. As such, we are dedicated to fostering an atmosphere of mutual respect and trust so that our clients become comfortable in exploring their life’s journey with their therapist. • Client-Centered Approaches We recognize that truly effective therapy is collaborative in nature. While our therapists have specialized knowledge and expertise, you and your therapist work together as a team to unpack your concerns and discover the ways to help you move toward your mental health goals. • Present-Time Focus While we understand exploring our past experiences helps to inform our future experiences, it is necessary to deliberately and purposefully be in our present. When we strive to live in the present moment, regardless of the discomfort or pain, we gain personal insight and strength to begin making change, as may be needed. • Empowerment Focus We believe that despite life’s challenges or even because of these challenges there is within each of us the potential for growth.

College can be a double edged sword. Independence but responsibility. Fun social events but intense studying and homework. New experiences outside your comfort zone. Common emotions during this phase of life include excitement, stress, confusion, feeling overwhelmed, scattered, and even beginning to question who you are and who you want to be. Therapy is a great way to start to explore all these experiences, emotions and life events that are part of your daily life. We can focus on helping you get organized and balanced, explore relationships, improve boundaries, and anything else that is important to you or may come up. Struggling with people pleasing? Perfectionism? Time management? Those are also all relevant topics. Feel free to reach out with any questions and we can go from there!
One of my passions about my role as a therapist is to normalize therapy, why else would I do this! I think that this is something that my clients can bring away from their sessions. (Que cliche sunshine and rainbows that can be very real when you choose therapy, a very big and hard step). Everyone needs a little support every now and then, but sometimes, events happen that make you feel like you need a little more support, or college feels a little more overwhelming that you expected. I get it, because I've been there. Trauma and negative thinking patterns are treatable and can be managed and I often find that with the use of EMDR and other techniques that I engage in, my clients often feel much better. I work with individuals to manage significant life stressors or traumatic events or histories that continue to impact or trigger you and decide to pop up and cause trouble in unexpected moments. I also work with pregnancy and postpartum concerns!
Coping with current events, life's challenges, and mental health can be so difficult but you don't have to do it alone. Whether you're looking to work through LGBTQ+ issues, adjusting to the college experience, depression, anxiety, relationships, or other stressors relating to the current state of the world, I can offer compassion and a nonjudgmental ear, help you develop self understanding, navigate interpersonal and emotional challenges, and help to develop the skills and resilience to live authentically. You don’t have to cope alone. If you are looking for a therapist who's part of the community to support you, help you develop skills to improve your life and feelings, and help you reach your goals, please contact me via phone or email. I look forward to hearing from you and walking with you on your journey!

You may trust that I will be authentic and genuine with you from the beginning as this is an important aspect of therapy. Making that call and keeping that first appointment can be such a hard thing to do, you deserve that honesty and integrity from the start. Over the last 23 years I have gained experience as a social worker. First as a case manager with my Bachelors in Social Work degree from Western Michigan University in 2000. Next as a therapist after earning my Masters of Social Work degree from Grand Valley State University in May 2005. Since that time, I have had the opportunity to further my skills in Michigan, North Carolina and Maine. I have had the privilege of gaining extensive experience working with individuals and groups (teens and adults, active duty service men and women and their families, veterans and civilians). Some client concerns include those struggling with: crisis response, depression, anxiety, trauma, life changes, stress management, grief, loss, gender identity, Gender Identity, LGBTQ+ concerns, sexuality, self-care concerns, and other life disruptions or stress.
