Upon graduation, I worked for nine years as a Director of Social Services within nursing homes and rehabilitation centers. I worked closely with hospice residents, assisting families in making decisions surrounding end of life care. In 2013, I graduated with a Master's Degree in Social Work specializing in Substance Abuse Treatment from East Carolina University. Recently, I have worked with children and adolescents with childhood mental health disorders. I also work with adults providing individual, marital, and family counseling. I utilize CBT, Strengths-Based, DBT, and Solutions Focused approaches to provide practical strategies, behavioral change, and personal growth. It does not matter who you are or what you have been through, you can recover!

Our approach to counseling is an integrative approach based on years of experience and training. We treat each client as the unique individual he or she is. Our first priority is to listen and understand designing the counseling process around our client. From the beginning of the counseling process, there is much emphasis on forming a strong relationship. We believe the foundation of the success of counseling is based on the creation of a relationship in which clients can feel comfortable, can be understood, and can trust. FREE 15 MINUTE PHONE CONSULTATION! The phone consultation is not therapy; however, this is an opportunity for you to speak with an experienced therapist to determine if receiving therapy or life coaching is a good fit for you or your family member.

Sarah Dietz
Psychologist
Wilmington, NC

Dr. Dietz's work as a psychologist is rooted in the belief that there is healing power in connection and in sharing one’s story. She works to provide an affirming space that allows clients to explore their experiences and challenges in a more nuanced and compassionate manner. Human beings have an innate need to feel seen and understood. In an increasingly isolating world, therapy offers clients the opportunity to feel less alone in their struggles, while also offering practical coping skills and strategies for growth. Sarah adopts a collaborative approach with clients, to ensure therapy is addressing goals that are valuable and relevant to each individual. Sarah is intentional about approaching clinical work with a multicultural lens as a means of acknowledging and honoring all aspects of clients’ identities and lived experiences. Sarah utilizes a trauma-informed and grief-informed framework to avoid pathologizing normative reactions to trauma and loss. Sessions will often include psychoeducation to help clients better understand and contextualize their challenges, experiences, and reactions.

I have worked with college students struggling with a wide range of difficulties and acuity over the past decade plus, including anxiety, depression, trauma, and relationship difficulties. I have a casual yet professional style, and prioritize creating a warm, non-judgmental space where clients can increase awareness of their emotional and relational patterns. I pull from several orientations, including psychodynamic/relational, emotion-focused, CBT, acceptance-based, and compassion-based approaches in order to make sense of your difficulties with you and to identify ways to change, or as is the case in the many situations that we can’t change, learn to relate to it differently. My clients express appreciation for my transparent, collaborative, compassionate, and well-informed approach. I am interested and have experience in working with clients from diverse backgrounds, including racial and ethnic minorities. I try to understand clients in context and I seek to bring in societal issues and -isms to understand clients experiences in the world. I am open to talking about my own identity and position in society. I have openings for telehealth clients located in Massachusetts, NC, or any participating Psypact state. I accept Aetna in MA. I accept Aetna and BCBS in NC. Please email me if you would like to schedule a free initial call to answer any questions and assess whether we may be a good match.

Sun Counseling and Wellness is a consortium of providers that have many years of experience working with individuals, couples, families, and groups. We are passionate about treating the WHOLE person and helping you achieve a balanced and fulfilling life. We use modern and evidence-based therapeutic techniques and are individualized and creative in our work with clients. My counseling philosophy puts the client in the driver's seat. I firmly believe you are the expert on your own concerns. I believe in the power of a person-centered approach. I believe in collaborating with my clients in order to assist them with understanding their underlying concerns while identifying and utilizing their strengths in order to accomplish their goals. Together, we'll work as a team to clarify your vision for your ideal life. Though you'll be doing the work in your own life, you can feel safe knowing you have a trusted collaborator along the way. My counseling style is warm, creative, and interactive. I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion. I consider myself an eclectic therapist, drawing from a number of different approaches, based on the presenting concern of the client "in front of me." I borrow heavily from Cognitive Behavioral Theory, which teaches individuals to challenge and change unhelpful cognitive distortions (e.g. thoughts, beliefs, and attitudes) and behaviors, which can leas to improved emotional regulation along with the development of effective and helpful coping strategies to address concerns and whole life wellness. I grew up here in North Carolina, hailing from Fayetteville. I obtained my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Queens University of Charlotte in 2012 where I started out working with at-risk youth in community based mental health. I now have over five years post-grad experience providing individual and group therapy. I continued providing a full range of services that helped individuals of various ages and families overcome addiction and mental health concerns along the way. Since graduating with my Masters of Social Work in 2016 from UNC Charlotte, I have worked primarily with college aged students within university counseling centers. I also enjoy supporting future generations in our mental health field by serving as an adjunct professor at UNC Charlotte since 2021. I enjoy working with tweens (12 and up), teens, young adults (18-24) to adults 24+. I celebrate you for taking the first step in this journey towards change - be it big or small. I will be here to support and empower you along the way! I look forward to working with you. Talk soon!

Many of the students I work with are going through times of change, pressure, or uncertainty. You might be trying to balance school, relationships, and future plans, all while dealing with stress, anxiety, or questions about who you are. Maybe you're feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or like no one really sees what you're carrying. I work best with students who are ready to explore those feelings in a safe, honest space, even if they’re not sure where to start. You don’t need to have it all figured out. You just need to be open to looking inward and having real conversations. Whether you're dealing with relationship issues, identity questions, trauma, or the day-to-day weight of being a student, you're not alone. I’m here to listen without judgment, help you make sense of what you’re feeling, and support you in moving forward with more clarity and self-trust.
