Through the stress of everyday life, so many of us have learned to put our needs aside. Often, we ignore them in the service of others, overwhelm, or simply not knowing how to nurture ourselves. I help clients to develop insight around why they may do this and address the root cause of the problem for healing that lasts. It is my honor and privilege to join you on this journey.

Hi! I’m Briana, a therapist who loves working with college students. I know this time in your life can feel exciting, overwhelming, confusing, and full of possibility—all at once. Whether you're dealing with stress from classes, relationships, identity questions, or just figuring out who you are and what you want, you're not alone. I've worked on college campuses for years and feel so lucky to be part of this chapter with the students I support. My goal is to create a space where you feel safe, understood, and empowered to make sense of what you're going through. Let’s figure it out together.

I've been in the field of social services for over 25 years, and I've had the good fortune to work in many different settings and with a vast array of populations. As a therapist I create environments that help people feel safe and supported and assist people in building motivation towards positive change. My clinical work is grounded in research and evidence-based practices, and I always work at a pace that is tailored to your unique situation and goals. My approach to therapy is warm, individualized, compassionate, and flexible. I'm a humble man with a good sense of humor, and I'm sensitive yet direct when I communicate. I've received formal training in many of the psychotherapy models and have specialized in the treatment of addiction, depression, personality disorders, bipolar disorder, ADHD, shame, couples, anxiety, trauma, anger/rage, and relationship challenges. I use the Gottman method for Couples Counseling and find the strategies practical and easy to adopt. In the early stages of my career, I treated adolescents, families, and young adults, and over the last decade have had more clinical experience working with adults and couples. I've also managed clinical program settings, providing leadership and supervision. I'd be happy to set up an initial consultation to see if we would be a good match to work together.

It's OK that you're here. Read that again. You are taking the very first step on your healing journey and finding the right therapist can be an overwhelming task. I am here to make it easier for you and share what I value in a therapeutic relationship. I take pride in my natural instinct to empathize and understand an individual's struggles. I value connection and our relationship. I do not expect anyone to feel comfortable opening up to me without first building our rapport together. Above all, I strive to convey an open, safe, and non-judgmental space for each and every person.

I have extensive experience working with individuals navigating addiction and recovery, depression, anxiety, grief, life transitions, and stress. I also incorporate DBT-informed coping skills—particularly mindfulness—which I’ve found to be powerful tools in both clinical work and everyday life. Together, we’ll focus on what matters most to you. I typically structure sessions around one or two main areas to help keep our work focused and meaningful. Treatment planning is a collaborative process, and I strive to make sure it aligns with your unique needs and goals. Starting therapy can feel overwhelming, and taking that first step is a brave decision. My goal is to create a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where you can be heard, understood, and empowered. I believe in a patient-centered approach—working collaboratively to understand your goals, meet you where you are, and support you at your pace. If you're feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure where to begin, I’d be honored to support you. Healing is possible, and you don’t have to do it alone.

I provide therapy that’s rooted in cultural humility. I believe trust grows when we honor the full spectrum of your identity—race, gender, work environments, religious affiliation, family, and beyond. I’m interested in the “why” behind things. Many of our thoughts, feelings, and reactions make sense when we look at earlier experiences or relationships. In therapy, we gently explore those patterns—how they show up now, and whether they’re helping or holding you back. I work in partnership with you. We’ll determine your course of treatment together. I believe the most lasting change happens when your voice is central to the process.

Do you worry about the future? Would you describe yourself as having difficulty with perfectionism, relationships with family & friends, social anxiety or identity? We are a small practice with two therapists--Spencer & Carlie who love providing therapy to young adults as they navigate this exciting and nerve wracking time moving from childhood and dependence to adulthood and independence. We often work with young adults who may have had therapy in high school but did not previously find therapy helpful (often due to a lack of agency in picking their therapist, misunderstanding or invalidation of their experiences, disruptions in confidentiality or lack of concrete coping skills/goals worked on). We provide a reparative experience where clients feel genuinely supported and able to advocate and ask for what they need. We use a variety of different therapy modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectal-Behavior Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Attachment Based Therapy, EMDR, Goal-oriented Therapy and Mindfulness. Our clients often move towards a feeling of confidence, improved relationships and belief in their abilities to handle any challenges that may come their way.

Finding the right therapist is an important and thoughtful process. You want to find someone who ‘gets’ you, and who you can trust to be straightforward with you about your role in problems, and what steps you need to take. You want a person with solid credentials and experience, yet who is open, willing to listen, and who will consider a variety of treatment options with you. Clients have told me they appreciate my straightforwardness and compassion. I would characterize myself as contemplative and thoughtful, yet I am not the kind of therapist who will leave you ‘on the couch’ while I utter “mm-hmm”. I like to balance insight with concrete information and skills you can use to work between sessions. My goal is to foster respectful and collaborative partnerships with clients who are motivated to make changes in their lives. Being a psychologist has special meaning to me, and I care deeply about my work. I hope this offers helpful information as you search for your therapist, and would welcome you to contact me for a consultation.
