Therapists for college students near New York University
I have a particular interest in college and graduate students. Prior to private practice, I worked at Hunter College. I have also worked at Pratt Institute and collaborated with FIT, the New School, LIM College, and Columbia University. Furthermore, I have extensive experience with eating disorders and substance abuse amongst young adults. In my practice, I utilize an eclectic style that is tailored to your individual needs. In addition, I have been offering more executive functioning coaching to young adults who need it. I look forward to hearing from you.
I am a therapist at ThriveWell Psychotherapy where our aim is to provide a warm and affirming space that focuses on individuals’ innate strengths and promotes self acceptance. Through a collaborative and interactive approach, we support our clients by exploring their emotional health and engaging in the change process, to reach their fullest potential. I work with clients navigating anxiety, depression, perfectionism, relationship challenges, executive functioning concerns, LGBTQ+ identity exploration, life transitions, and transitions into and out of competitive athletics. I collaborate with my clients to determine which therapeutic strategies best meet their unique needs, goals, and preferences. Above all, I hope to create a warm, safe space where clients feel empowered to make lasting changes and ultimately achieve their goals. Outside of the therapy room, I enjoy reading, playing tennis, thrifting, cooking, trying new restaurants, and traveling.

Are you a creative person with high aspirations experiencing procrastination, perfectionism, and a hostile inner critic? Do you want to feel more free in your work or your relationships? Do you feel anxious or depressed and want to obsess less and laugh more? We will think together to figure out why you feel stuck, and how you will transform. We will collaborate to your unique strengths, using an eclectic approach. I am a Licensed Creative Arts Therapist in the state of New York and received my Master's Degree from New York University in drama therapy. I completed post-graduate psychotherapy training at the Institute for Developmental Transformations, where I also served as Associate Training Director for three years. I worked at the School of Visual Arts as a psychotherapist and for 9 years worked at Bellevue Hospital in the department of psychiatry. I utilize empirically supported and embodied creative approaches to psychotherapy including Attachment Focused EMDR (completed levels 1 -3). I believe we should all be free to love who we love, to identify in whatever way feels most natural to us, and I am honored to hold space for anyone who is questioning what is "right" for them. I am fortunate to have worked with individuals from many continents. I strive to be aware of the power and privilege I have in the therapy space. I invite dialogue and play for exploring issues of cultural identity, race, class, trauma and abuse of power. I am an out-of-network provider for Wellfleet-Cigna (SVA, NYU, Cooper Union, Sarah Lawrence, etc.) and submit the paperwork on client's behalf.
You don't need to have everything figured out before starting therapy. Our work can begin with where you are right now. As a somatic mental health counselor, I specialize in trauma-informed and queer-affirming therapy for adults navigating trauma, ADHD and neurodivergence, mood concerns, emotional regulation, and substance use or recovery. Many of the patients I work with feel overwhelmed, stuck, or disconnected from themselves, or are affected by experiences that continue to show up in everyday life. I also support patients through questions of identity and major life transitions, with particular attention to building a stronger connection with themselves through affirming care for LGBTQIA+ and queer patients. My goal is to create a space where you can understand yourself more deeply, work through what you've been carrying, and build ways of moving through your life that feel more connected, sustainable, and true to who you are. I look at the whole person: not just thoughts, but also emotions, the body, identity, relationships, and lived experience. This means integrating talk therapy with body awareness, mindfulness, grounding, movement, and nervous system education to help you better understand your patterns, process difficult experiences, and create meaningful change. Throughout this work, my style is warm, collaborative, grounded, curious, and direct. You can expect compassion, along with support in looking more deeply at experiences and the places where you feel stuck. I believe you should have an active voice in therapy, and tailor our work to what you need while making room for complexity, humor, and being human. My path into counseling grew from a longstanding respect for how people heal, adapt, and make sense of their experiences. A background in yoga, psychology, and body-based practices eventually led me to somatic psychotherapy, and to understanding healing as something that involves the mind and body together. That perspective continues to shape the way I work with patients today. I enjoy abstract painting and drumming, along with yoga, movement, and spending time outside exploring nature.
I believe that therapy, with a therapist who can help you feel safe, secure and seen, can restore our inherent joy, curiosity, creativity, and connectedness, which are often impaired or lost altogether as a result of trauma or past attachment wounds. I am a relational therapist and specialize in exploring patterns that come from our families of origin, relationships with ourselves, with our friends, romantic partners, and children, as well as relationships with food and substances. I tailor treatment to each client’s unique needs by incorporating modalities such as Internal Family Systems, psychodynamic psychotherapy, somatic work, CBT, DBT, and mindfulness. Regardless of approach, what is transformative in therapy occurs in the relational dynamic.

There are times when we ask ourselves questions we feel we have no answers to: "Why am I not happy?", "How do I improve my life?" and "Will I ever find a solution to this problem that is consistent and stressful?". Have hope! The answers are there inside of you, waiting to be discovered. I strive to support my clients without judgement, challenging those who are ready to explore themes of personal responsibility, meaning, and resolution. Through genuine client/therapist interactions, the emotional impact of trauma, loss, depression, and/or anxiety can be relieved, and answers found. I have a wide range of experience in helping those who may be suffering from anxiety, depression, trauma, or life transitions. Working with older adolescents to older adults, I find that combining a person-centered therapy model with CBT, Gestalt, and Mindfulness interventions can be especially helpful. It is my belief that therapy should be an experience of thoughtfulness, reflection and discovery. In-the-moment therapeutic experiments, music therapy, and artistic mindfulness are all tools that can be used to stir the creative process towards finding the answers one is looking for, and the journey thereafter.

-Are you struggling with the transition to a more independent phase of life? -Are you overwhelmed by the transition to college and balancing everything on your own for the first time? -Do you feel like everyone else but you has somehow figured out “adulting”? -Are you getting into conflicts with your parents, feeling like they still view you as a child? Many young adults feel alone in these experiences, with the idea that everyone else seems to “have it all together.” Transitions such as graduating high school, starting college, starting your first job, experiencing your first relationship, and working towards being financially independent are all exciting moments in time, but they can also bring stress and uncertainty. College students might be thrown by how much harder academic life is than in high school, no longer having the structure and accountability provided by teachers or parents. Making friends in a new setting may also be harder than you expected, leading to feelings of failure. Especially since having a social life with peers can feel even more important when you’re far from home. Coming home from college for the summer or winter break, many people are thrown by the fact that their friends have grown and evolved in ways that may be different than them, making friendships feel different. If things aren’t working out as you expected, you may start to feel down or depressed, or a sense of isolation and loneliness. That’s where we enter in. We’d love to help you feel a little less alone in this phase of life and to start working through the challenges you’ve been dealing with. At Elevate CBT, we specialize in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which focuses on addressing thinking and behavioral patterns that may be keeping you stuck and preventing you from having the life you want. It’s a very goal-driven kind of therapy, so your therapist will work with you to identify what is currently a struggle in your life, and what you want to work towards to have a more satisfying life. We have helped many young adults in therapy work towards finding their “people” and figuring out aspects of their identities, improving academic organization and decreasing procrastination, creating a more balanced relationship with alcohol or weed, and asserting independence from parents while still being respectful of the ways in which parental support may still be needed. We also specialize in working with young adults with anxiety, panic attacks, insomnia, OCD, BFRBs (hair pulling and skin picking), trauma, and eating/body image concerns. Our goal is to create a comfortable environment for you to learn more about yourself, your emotions, and how to change behavior in the direction of your desired goals. Balancing self-compassion with pushing yourself outside of your comfort zone, we will work together to help you achieve the life you want.
