Therapists for college students near Atlanta, GA
I consider therapy a collaborative practice in communication and connection, and work with couples and individuals. My open-minded and accepting approach to therapy helps people heal trauma, process loss, manage stress, make strong decisions and better understand relationships. I draw from many different disciplines to treat the whole person. Welcoming and practical, my approach doesn’t depend on any specific philosophy—I get to know you, your needs and your goals—then tailor the experience to fit you and your life. My life’s work has focused on progressive and holistic education and wellness. Comfortable connecting with all types of people, I've counseled and taught in settings from farms to prisons to corporate offices. I started my practice in early 2015 while also developing an Emotional Intelligence curriculum that I teach to urban, high-tech professionals, start-ups, and corporations. I have an M.A. and Ed.M in Counseling Psychology from Columbia University with a focus in Multicultural Counseling. I have been trained in anti-racism and LGBT SafeZone, yoga and meditation, and strength-based interpersonal psychotherapy with Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) components. My specialization with couples is Emotionally Focused Therapy, for which I recommend first reading Sue Johnson's Hold Me Tight. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in the state of New York and a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Georgia.

As a Somatic Therapist and Intuitive Eating Counselor, I blend talk therapy with body-based techniques to help people rediscover their innate wisdom and hunger for life. Instead of getting caught in a spiral of prescriptive “shoulds” as related to eating, exercise, perfectionism, anxiety or depression, my holistic approach allows you to slowly become more aware of your unique bodily rhythms, relational needs, gut instincts and deeper hungers from the inside-out. I love helping people reconnect with their body-mind-spirit from a trauma-informed, depth-oriented, expressive arts, and all-bodies-welcome approach. With a great appreciation for the body’s wisdom, early developmental imprinting and expanding one’s intuition, I draw upon nervous system science, attachment theory and trauma-informed somatic therapy to help clients feel supported and empowered in their bodies and lives. Sometimes we talk, sometimes we move and make art, sometimes we explore developmental shapes or movement patterns, and sometimes we do all three. You set the pace.

My name is Elizabeth Bryant. As a LGBTQIA+ affirming couples therapist trained in both Gottman and Developmental Model Couples therapy I have come to learn that not every size fits all. Bringing two different people with their own unique backgrounds, life experiences, and values is bound to be tricky. Trying to build a life with someone is wonderful but a challenging adventure to embark on. I work with a variety of couples including but not limited to LGBTQIA+, monogamous, polyamorous, heterosexual, interracial, and neurodivergent. The majority of the couples I work with are looking for a new way forward together but are facing challenges that often feel unresolvable without guidance. It takes courage, vulnerability, patience, open communication and a genuine desire to heal and grow. It is not a journey taken lightly but together we can create a path towards deeper connection and a joy-filled relationship.

Maya Angelou once wrote, “You may not control all the events that happen to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them.” This perspective is at the core of the therapeutic process, and central to the work I do with my clients. Together, we work to better understand the challenges faced in their unique, personal journeys, and in so doing, facilitate healing and growth. I am a licensed psychologist with extensive experience in addressing such concerns as depression, anxiety, early childhood and adult trauma exposure, PTSD, impaired self-worth, and relationship challenges. As a culturally-responsive psychologist, I focus on the critical role that individual identity (such as racial, ethnic, gender, or sexual identity) can play in overall well-being. I am a veteran of the United States Navy and completed a clinical psychology residency within the Division of Adult Mental Health at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. I am a graduate of Morehouse College, completed master’s level training in clinical psychology and cross-cultural psychology at Columbia University and Cornell University, respectively, and completed my doctoral training in counseling psychology at Boston College.
Melissa Light holds a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from Emory University. She received her Master's Degrees in Elementary Education from Southern Connecticut State University and in Mental Health Counseling from Georgia State University. Melissa completed her practicum and internship at Ray of Hope, providing play therapy for children and individual and couples counseling for adults. She has worked with individuals to address mood and anxiety disorders, grief, and relationship issues. In addition to private practice, she has provided therapy in a university counseling center and at an outpatient recovery center for opioid addiction. As a counselor at the recovery center, she led a Women’s Self-Care group which addressed issues of physical and emotional well-being, co-dependency, healthy boundaries, and parenthood. Additionally, Melissa has served as a guest speaker for a support group for new mothers in the Atlanta area. Melissa sees her role as being a guide to help clients gain understanding of themselves. In doing so, clients can address barriers and learn how to live at their full potential. She works from an eclectic approach, using Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) to explore thought and behavior patterns and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to help clients better manage their emotions and relationships. Clients come to therapy with their own goals and individual strengths and Melissa partners with her clients to navigate personal growth in a supportive, nurturing environment.
Anxiety, depression, parenting, and work life balance are a few of many things that we are faced with each day, in addition to people asking us to perform despite being weighed down by those challenges. Who we are and who we want to be may not always align with who we are expected to be. Through our work together, we will explore boundaries, educational tools, and coping skills to rise to resilience and show up each day as our best self despite life’s hardships. Awareness is the foundation for change, and we will work together to enhance our personal awareness to build a more functional and peace filled existence.

Hi there! I am a licensed psychologist in Midtown Atlanta. I enjoy helping with anxiety concerns, men's issues/masculinity, relationship and social concerns, and depression, as well as a number of other concerns. I also have extensive experience working with undergraduate and graduate college students. I integrate different approaches, but work mainly using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and relational/interpersonal techniques. Additionally, I specialize in mindfulness-based and self-compassion approaches and the use of mindfulness meditation. My aim in therapy is to create a space of warmth, openness, and support so that we can lean into the difficult areas of your life, work to understand the ways you could grow, and begin to address them. I work actively to help my clients open up to their thoughts and emotions while also helping identify changes they can make to live life more effectively. I am patient, relatable, and flexible in my work, and you'll find that I am a humorous and light-hearted person, too. I also aim to be direct and authentic, giving helpful feedback when appropriate. Check out my website to get a better sense for my practice and the way I work with folks! If you are interested in working with me, please don't hesitate to reach out by phone or email, and we can set up a time for a brief initial consultation.
I work primarily with clients who are struggling with issues of stress, anxiety, past childhood abuse/trauma, issues of racial identity/trauma, relationships, and women's issues (particularly single women). Additionally, I work with clients who have an interest in integrating their religious faith into their therapy.

When you’re not experiencing COVID or any other contagious symptoms, I offer Telehealth Monday-Thursdays, and in-person psychotherapy sessions on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays in the Decatur?Scottdale, GA area. Our office (house) is located not far from Emory University, Agnes Scott College, and Decatur. We offer free parking in a wheelchair accessible building. Phone calls generally work best, as I occasionally miss emails, so if you email me, please follow up with a phone call. I look forward to speaking with you - let’s see if I would be a good match for your needs! INSURANCE NOTE: I do take Aetna Student Health insurance, however I'm not a CORE provider (Tier 1). I am an In-network (Tier 2), preferred provider with Aetna, and Aetna Student Health Insurance will have a different rate/copy, &/or coinsurance amount for Tier 2 providers than for CORE providers. Although I may be able to explain potential differences in coverage, I encourage you to check your insurance benefits for the differences between in-and out-of-network providers and the difference between core and non-core providers, whether your deductible has been met, and the required copay/co-insurance information for the cost of the session prior to making an appointment.

Hello! Let's be honest...seeking therapy can be an uncertain and anxiety-filled process whether you have never worked with a counselor before or have had multiple bad experiences leaving you feeling guarded and hopeless. Each client has different needs and you deserve counseling that is tailored specifically to you. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Georgia. I currently hold an Educational Specialist’s Degree (Ed.S.) in Counselor Education and a Master’s Degree (M.S.) in Clinical Psychology. I have extensive experience working in the counseling field for over 10 years where I have worked with children, adolescents, and adults receiving services for behavioral mental health and substance abuse in a variety of settings including outpatient, inpatient, and semi independent residential treatment facilities. Specifically, I have worked with clients diagnosed with depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress, attention-deficit hyperactivity, and psychotic disorders as well as those struggling with behavioral and emotional distress, low self-esteem, suicidal thoughts, self-harm, sleep difficulties, and more. I particularly enjoy working with students and faculty to help them thrive during transitions. Because therapy is not a one-size-fits-all solution, I use an integrative approach and pull from various theoretical orientations (person-centered, solution-focused, cognitive behavioral, interpersonal process) to ensure your treatment is individualized and collaborative. Regardless of the intervention or techniques used, I practice from the fundamental belief that most often people are good and are trying to do their best given their current situation, but may make bad decisions. We are all human and imperfect… and worthy of love and compassion. This includes you. I am part of the Path referral network, which means that when you reach out, my team will get back to you quickly to schedule our first session. Through Path, I am in-network for most commercial insurances, and the average cost of a session for clients who use their insurance is less than $30.
