Therapists for college students near Ann Arbor, MI
I am a private practice mental health therapist in Grand Rapids who works with children, teens, and adults. My specialties include anxiety, depression, ADHD, and emotion regulation. I love working with college students as they take the next steps on their journey to adulthood, with all of the challenges and transitions this entails. I am available via telehealth to anyone in the state of Michigan, or for in person appointments in Grand Rapids.
I specialize in supporting high-achieving professionals—especially those in academia or the helping profession (doctors, nurses, therapists, pastors)—who grapple with perfectionism, difficulty setting boundaries, codependency, and the challenge of prioritizing their own needs amidst the many demands of their personal and professional lives. As an immigrant, I bring a rich, cross-cultural perspective to therapy and a deep appreciation for how culture shapes identity, relationships, and mental health. Many of my clients are navigating complex intersections of cultural expectations, academic roles, and personal values. In addition to my clinical practice, I am a professor and active researcher. My academic work focuses on interpersonal trauma and its impact on relationships and meaning-making. This dual identity as both clinician and scholar informs my approach: deeply reflective, integrative, and grounded in both science and lived experience. I work exclusively via Telehealth with adult clients residing in GA, MI, and TX. I believe that meaningful change begins with a strong therapeutic relationship—one that offers both safety and challenges patterns by providing direct and honest feedback. If you're ready to invest in yourself and your well-being, I invite you to reach out.
My goal is to create a place for you to be open and honest without judgment. This is critical as counseling is a personal journey. I understand fully the pressures/struggles that life places in our paths. I actively listen to what you want to achieve and work diligently alongside you toward making that a reality.
Welcome! I’m glad you found me. I really enjoy working with college students, and I take a warm, relational approach to therapy. I love to laugh with clients, hear their life stories, and help them process their thoughts and experiences without judgment. As a therapist, some of my specialty areas include anxiety, depression, grief work, self esteem, stress management, life transitions, and identity exploration. In my work, I help people better connect with their thoughts and bodies, discover and challenge unhelpful thinking patterns, and move towards greater understanding and acceptance. I am committed to creating a safe space for clients of all backgrounds, identities, and beliefs. If you’re curious about therapy, please reach out. I see clients both virtually and in-person, and I'd love to connect. I completed my master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Western Michigan University, and I have additional trainings in trauma-informed care and somatic interventions for anxiety.
College life can be fun and memorable, but it can also be an adjustment and lonely. My goal is to help through those adjustments and to always feel like you have a support system on your side. At Relational Insight we empower clients to increase life fulfillment through growth, acceptance, and healthy relationships. Our therapists help clients who are struggling and curious about observed patterns of behavior (such as perfectionism, isolation, avoidance or procrastination, substance use, conflict and relationship dynamics) or patterns of emotions (such as fear/anxiety, sadness, overwhelm, identify confusion, anger/irritability, and self-criticism). We also help clients interested in making connections between their past and present such as better understanding and healing past traumas or abuse. Therapy helps clients capitalize on their strengths and self-knowledge to make changes and live with intention.
Navigating the world can be stressful and our stress responses can impact us on multiple levels. As a therapist, I strive to create a therapeutic environment that is trauma-informed AND resilience-informed, moving people from a place of despair to hope. I have experience working with those navigating anxiety/depression, stress and burnout, grief, and trauma. While trauma and stress may be ever-present, I invite you to consider what else is also true. Cultivating resilience helps build the capacity to hold the complexities of life, and integrating the mind and body allows one to respond intentionally and live more fully. Approaching the therapeutic journey with curiosity and intention, I utilize a creative and holistic approach to work collaboratively with people ready to experience a change. I offer empathetic and client-centered counseling that helps one find deepened awareness, compassion, connection, and movement toward resilient transformation. I honor the sacredness of this work and the client-therapist relationship. I seek to create an inclusive brave/safe space for you to explore your concerns with curiosity, acceptance, and compassion. Regardless of what you bring into the room, I am committed to taking the journey with you, and welcome the opportunity to join you in this work.

Life can be difficult. With the right tools and some effort, it does not have to be. My hope is to help you with your goals. Whether that is to feel better (less depressed, anxious or angry), improve your relationships (with a spouse, parent, child, etc.), change your behaviors (substance use, self harm, avoidance), or anything else that is important to you, I'd love the opportunity to work with you. I enjoy working with a many different presenting problems. My passions include working with teens/adults, men's issues (especially navigating work and/or family life), post-partum Dads, athletes and substance use/co-occurring disorders. Therapy isn't one-size fits all. I utilize many forms of therapy depending on what my client may need. These typically include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, solution-focused therapy and motivational interviewing. Each client is unique and I find it important to adjust treatment strategies to the needs of each client. Should you allow me to be a help to you, you can always expect empathy and compassion. But you can also expect me to be direct, push you to challenge your perspective, and inject a bit of humor into the therapy process. I welcome you to reach out if you think I could be the right fit for you.
Hi! I’m Christen Clark, LMSW. I’m passionate about counseling women going through anxiety, depression, grief or challenging life transitions. In particular, I have a heart for college students, young adults, and women going through pregnancy/postpartum. Life can be hard. Transitions have a tendency to bring up past trauma, anxiety, or depression. Sometimes “high achievers” can be suffering internally with their mental health while no one else knows. If life feels overwhelming, out of control, or it is becoming hard to function - you’re in the right place. There is hope. I know reaching out for help can be intimidating - maybe even scary. My goal is to help you feel at ease in therapy sessions by building a real relationship. I hope to provide a warm, loving presence and to help you recognize your own strengths. My number one priority is making sure we are a good fit and building trust in our therapeutic relationship. I am fueled by my faith in God to treat every woman I encounter with love, support, and grace. You are worthy of love, acceptance, and to see the beauty of life again. Although I am a Christian, I have experience working with women from all kinds of diverse backgrounds. I value your worldview and we can use faith as much or as little as you desire in our sessions. You are not alone. Keeping our depressive or anxious thoughts in the dark is a breeding place for shame. Opening up is the only way to move towards healing. Sometimes, when we shine a light on what seems so dark and shameful we find out it’s not as bad as we thought. As someone who has struggled personally, I provide a non-judgmental atmosphere in our sessions. I am grateful for 8 years of experience in social work after graduating from Grand Valley State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in social work and a Master’s Degree in social work from Spring Arbor University. I’m currently providing exclusively online individual therapy services. Good news - no matter where you’re located in the State of Michigan, I can help.
Do you know there are 104 words you can find in the 9 letters that make up the word POTENTIAL? There are. I've found every one of them (the first time without an app to help me!). I'm committed to helping my clients find all the things inside to help them live out their potential: heal from trauma, work through anxiety and depression, whatever it may be. I use the good, bad, and otherwise to help them become better.
Ready to unf#ck your nervous system? Let’s be completely real, you can’t think your way out of a survival response. If analyzing your childhood or making endless coping-skill lists worked, you wouldn't be reading this right now. Numbing out, doom-scrolling, or pushing through the exhaustion makes complete sense, until it doesn't.I don't do standard talk therapy. I don't sit silently while you vent for 50 minutes just to tell you to breathe. At The Unfiltered Couch Counseling, we go straight to the root, in your body. When you are stuck in constant survival mode, chronic illness flares up, burnout takes over, and your brain feels constantly foggy. Using specialized somatic approaches like Brainspotting, EMDR, and Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR), we target where stress and trauma are physically trapped in your nervous system. We clear out the heavy, physical weight in your chest and stomach so your body finally gets the memo that the danger is over.If you are ready for raw honesty, deep somatic shifts, and a therapist who actually curses back, you’re in the right place. Let's get your system back online.
I love working with young adults exploring independence and transitioning into new life experiences. I have experience working with anxiety and depression, general transitions, family discord, relationship issues, and perinatal work.

Establishing a strong working relationship is essential to positive therapeutic outcomes. I firmly believe that therapy works best when you match well on a personal level. Adjusting to college is hard. There's a lot of pressure to do well academically, socially, personally...and it can be helpful to have an unbiased person to vent to and talk about what you're struggling with. I specialize in treating individuals struggling with primary and secondary trauma. I use a multifaceted approach to therapy to meet my clients where they are and to suit their individual needs, whether trauma is a main focus or not.
Cassie operates out of a trauma informed lens. Additionally, she utilizes a person-centered, strengths-based, and cognitive behavioral theoretical orientation. Cassie is a trained EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) clinician and practices DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) informed treatment. Cassie believes there is not one technique that works for all individuals; therefore, the core of her professional work begins with creating a healthy therapeutic alliance. She is part of a multi-cultural family and values working with individuals from diverse backgrounds. She believes when individuals can understand and respect each other, a foundation exists where sharing, processing, and healing can take place. Cassie offers telehealth sessions to individuals in Michigan and in-person sessions in Lansing (about 5 minutes from MSU's campus).
