Therapists for college students near Ann Arbor, MI
Welcome! I’m glad you found me. I really enjoy working with college students, and I take a warm, relational approach to therapy. I love to laugh with clients, hear their life stories, and help them process their thoughts and experiences without judgment. As a therapist, some of my specialty areas include anxiety, depression, grief work, self esteem, stress management, life transitions, and identity exploration. In my work, I help people better connect with their thoughts and bodies, discover and challenge unhelpful thinking patterns, and move towards greater understanding and acceptance. I am committed to creating a safe space for clients of all backgrounds, identities, and beliefs. If you’re curious about therapy, please reach out. I see clients both virtually and in-person, and I'd love to connect. I completed my master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Western Michigan University, and I have additional trainings in trauma-informed care and somatic interventions for anxiety.

I work with adult individuals working on finding balance, confidence, and solid and grounded in yourself, to know that you are enough and that there was never anything wrong with you. We provide mental health therapy and counseling to people who experience problems related to anxiety, depression, mood disorders, relationship stressors, and reactions to grief. Many of our clinicians have had focused training related to providing psychotherapy services to people who struggle with addiction, as well as people who have been through traumas, including childhood abuse. We have clinicians who focus on working in the areas of life transitions, spirituality, relationships, and multicultural issues. We offer ADHD psychological testing and evaluation, as well as the thorough documentation many schools, universities, and physicians require for accommodations. We offer letter writing for support and advocacy for the transgender community for coordination of care.
I work with college students and young adults experiencing anxiety, depression, relationship and attachment concerns, trauma, grief and loss, burnout, self-esteem challenges, and major life changes. Whether you're working through past experiences or trying to better understand yourself in the present, I strive to create a supportive, compassionate space where you feel heard, understood, and empowered. As a strength-based therapist, I believe every person has the capacity for growth, resilience, and healing. I believe healing happens through genuine connection and in relationships where people feel safe enough to be themselves. Together, we'll explore your strengths, develop practical coping skills, and work toward creating a life that feels more balanced, meaningful, and aligned with your goals and values. I am a Licensed Limited Master Social Worker (LLMSW) and have worked in the field of social work since 2010. I specialize in supporting high-achieving professionals—especially those in academia or the helping profession (doctors, nurses, therapists, pastors)—who grapple with perfectionism, difficulty setting boundaries, codependency, and the challenge of prioritizing their own needs amidst the many demands of their personal and professional lives. As an immigrant, I bring a rich, cross-cultural perspective to therapy and a deep appreciation for how culture shapes identity, relationships, and mental health. Many of my clients are navigating complex intersections of cultural expectations, academic roles, and personal values. In addition to my clinical practice, I am a professor and active researcher. My academic work focuses on interpersonal trauma and its impact on relationships and meaning-making. This dual identity as both clinician and scholar informs my approach: deeply reflective, integrative, and grounded in both science and lived experience. I work exclusively via Telehealth with adult clients residing in GA, MI, and TX. I believe that meaningful change begins with a strong therapeutic relationship—one that offers both safety and challenges patterns by providing direct and honest feedback. If you're ready to invest in yourself and your well-being, I invite you to reach out.

My name is Carolyn Roath. I am a Biblically informed Christian therapist, Master of Clinical Social Work, and owner of my own private telehealth practice. I hold a master’s degree in Clinical Social Work from Michigan State University. My heart for those grieving relational loss and trauma has led me to this work. As a follower of Christ, I seek to create a safe and nurturing environment where the client knows they are free from judgment. It is paramount for me that I hold the vulnerable, tender, and painful parts of my client’s being with dignity and respect. Being trusted by a client is an honor I take very seriously. In my work I strive to empower my clients to be self-led, while gently guiding them with questions to prompt self-reflection. I resonate strongly with attachment theory, Internal Family Systems, and Interpersonal Neurobiology utilizing a strength-based approach. Life can feel heavier than it should, especially when you're trying to navigate a season of big changes and high expectations. You might notice you're constantly overthinking, feeling drained by a relentless cycle of daily responsibilities, or running on fumes as a high achiever who never quite feels like "enough." Over time, the stress of managing deadlines, next steps, and independent life can take a toll on your sleep, your relationships, and your energy—making it hard to actually enjoy your day-to-day life. My goal is to offer a welcoming, supportive space where you can step away from the pressure and talk openly about what’s truly on your mind. Together, we’ll work to better understand what you’re experiencing, find realistic ways to manage the unique challenges of modern transitions, and help you feel more confident, grounded, and connected to the life you want to live. When you reach out, you’ll connect directly with me. There is no front desk screening, I want your first connection to be as simple, private, and stress-free as possible. The way I work is grounded in warmth, respect, and a judgment-free space where you don’t have to have your entire future figured out. Together, we’ll focus on what you want to change, whether that’s finding more calm amidst daily stress, building healthier relationships, silencing overthinking, or reclaiming your confidence.
