Therapists for college students near Ann Arbor, MI
We help people understand how trauma affects them as a whole person and work with them to reunify their thoughts, emotions, and body. We have advanced training that can offer symptom relief and a path out of feeling hopeless. The good news is that with time and focus, most people can become symptom-free and manage difficulties from a place of inner strength. Our counselors have advanced training on how the brain and body respond to and hold onto the effects of trauma. Our team understands how trauma can have a lasting impact on people’s perspective, relationships, life story, daily functioning and how its effects can lead to feelings of extreme depression and anxiety as well as being misunderstood by others.

Therapy is the ultimate form of self care. It can lead to radical self-acceptance, allowing you to manifest the positive goals you have for your life. Seeking therapy traditionally has had barriers, and I know breaking those barriers will create a better, more accessible, revolutionary, and empathic society. My clinical interests include working with LGBTQIA+ issues, depression, anxiety, grief, relationship issues, domestic violence, and times of adjustment and change. I come from person-centered, strengths-based, and trauma-focused modalities. I utilize an eclectic approach in our sessions, as each client is different. I believe in a therapeutic relationship that is equal and balanced. Our goals will be mutual and dynamic. You are an expert in your life, and I look forward to working together to create the healthy and positive change you see for yourself.

I have a professional interest and passion to counsel adolescents, adults, families, and couples using evidence-based approaches and interpersonal practices. With supporting individuals overcoming trauma, mental illness, and/or substance abuse, I've learned how to aid in promoting an individual's personal sense of resilience through mindfulness techniques, along with other interventions, eliminating barriers to treatment. My clinical orientation includes, but is not limited to, cognitive behavioral therapy, psychodynamic, existentialism, and person-centered approaches. By observing how individuals’ home and school environments influenced their behaviors, I found a unique fascination and understanding in how systems influence an individual and family.
“You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection.” -Buddha If you are struggling with anxiety, depression, low self-esteem or stress related to life transitions, I am here to help. I can teach you how to communicate your wants and needs in healthy ways. We will go at a pace that feels right for you. I have over 18 years of experience working in both inpatient and outpatient substance-abuse treatment settings including: rehabilitation, detoxification, methadone and suboxone clinics, and county jail substance use treatment. I have also facilitated substance use and DBT group therapy, and skills-building group therapy for elementary-aged children.
Between balancing work, school pressures, relationships and the 24 hour news cycle, it is natural to feel anxious and overwhelmed. As your therapist, I strive to walk alongside you and build upon your pre-existing skills to empower you to feel confident enough to manage future life stressors on your own and learning to identify what things truly deserve your energy. My approach takes on a trauma-informed lens with compassion-focused interventions. I often like to consider how various systems in the US have impacted our ability to thrive and what we can do to cope with them. I enjoy working with teens and young-adults wanting to address symptoms of anxiety, depression, life transitions and impacts of trauma. I reference research-based psychotherapy while also weaving in humor and candidness into each session. I believe that acting with humility is an essential component of the therapeutic process. If we can't be our authentic selves, we are limiting our potential for success.
With the many transitions that life brings can come many challenges. It can be difficult to navigate these challenges alone and reaching out for support is a significant step in working towards healing. My goal is to help you navigate your healing journey using compassion, empathy, creativity, and humor. I have worked in a variety of settings including the department of corrections, psychiatric inpatient hospitals, and in an after school setting. Throughout experience I have worked with many different clients including individuals experiencing challenges related to depression, anxiety, trauma, life transitions, grief, work stress, career transitions, spirituality, and family life. I approach my work with the mindset that the client is the expert in their treatment. In my work I utilize Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance Commitment Therapy, Internal Family Systems, and Mindfulness Based Interventions. I aim to provide a welcoming, supportive, inclusive, and judgement free space for you to process any struggles and work towards your goals. I recognize that each person’s path to healing is unique and during our time together we will discover which approach is ideal for you. Life can bring on so much heartache and struggles that can make us feel lost. Through self-exploration we can work towards transforming into a more healed self. I work with individuals seeking deeper self-awareness and clarity around the root causes of anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, or relationship challenges. If you feel stuck in repetitive patterns or disconnected from your authentic self, I offer guidance to explore and heal past wounds, trauma, or relational dynamics. Grounded in mindfulness and self-compassion, my approach supports emotional growth by examining how past experiences shape present thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. I strive to create a safe, empathic space where you can explore your inner world, strengthen your connection to yourself, and navigate life’s challenges with greater understanding and care.
People with self-critical thoughts, perfectionists, those who find it difficult to understand their own feelings, I am not here to change your thoughts, or to get rid of them; I don't believe that's possible, even if we can sometimes ignore them for a couple hours. But I do believe we can learn to respond to those thoughts differently, in ways that acknowledge and makes space for them, but doesn't leave you getting pushed around by them, doing things that don't feel like "you." I'm sure you have your reservations, that's normal and healthy. Therapy isn't easy! But if you're not happy with how things have been - how you've been treating yourself, others, the world around you - I would love to talk. I try my best to make therapy more than just "feeling your feelings." I want you to come away with a sense of peace and preparedness. Here's the part where I try to convince you I'm not a lizard in a therapist suit. My favorite Pokémon is Vulpix, I love Dungeons and Dragons, and cheesecake is objectively the best food. Thank you for reading, fellow humans. Talk to you soon, maybe!

Sometimes we are faced with certain challenges. Certain emotions might come from work, school, personal relationships, or other responsibilities in life. The act of having to balance certain activities in life can cause stress, anger, anxiety, depression, or a mixture of emotions. Sometimes having a medical diagnosis or a medical issue can cause one to feel sad, angry, or overwhelmed. Please feel free to contact me because I can assist with organizational skills, balancing your daily activities, and providing coping strategies. It is very rewarding for me to help clients.
My approach begins with the understanding that connecting with one’s self and others is a pathway toward finding meaning and fulfillment. This pathway of connecting can become blocked by old emotional wounds or current relationship struggles. The partnership formed in the therapy relationship becomes the platform where healing broken connections may occur. This approach can help bring about lasting change by getting at the ‘root’ of the problem and bring relief from symptoms. Central to Chris’ approach is a concern for the role that faith and belief play in the life of the patient. My practice is shaped by his time training at Northwestern University, Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary, and the Center for Religion and Psychotherapy of Chicago. My approach to working to help people change comes primarily from a model for psychotherapy where tending to feelings, symptoms, and patterns of relating become an important part of the healing process. In our first conversation, you can expect to briefly discuss your concerns as well as setting up an initial meeting. The first meeting is where your concerns and history are better understood in order to offer specific recommendations and feedback.
